A undertaking that is reminiscent of this one was when they raised the central station building in Amsterdam. They replaced the foundation and let the entire thing float while still keeping it operational to install the new metro station under it. Beautiful building, awesome job. Give it a google.

They should add a Vancouver style waterfront sea wall as well. Like coal harbor area.

At least we know now what plans are going that we who will not see it done that for us, we don't have even another decade to live. Retired!

I would imagine there will need to be new stairways constructed from the current sidewalk to reach the front entrances, but other than that it seems the facade will remain unchanged. Combined with the already funded Embarcadero Seawall, I imagine other piers will be similarly raised over the coming decades as well.

What about the rest of the Bay Areas bayside shorelines? A more radical approach is going to be necessary to ensure the whole Bay Area is protected.
They erected a flood control barrier at the mouth of the Thames river in ‘82. Something similar is going to need to be erected at the golden gate too.

The rest of the bay… that’s a different conversation and those communities to deal with. This report is about the SF Ferry Terminal, nothing else and nobody else.

The water on the Embarcadero is rising because the street, and the Ferry Building were not built on engineered landfill.
Like the Marina District, which was rendered uninhabitable for 9 months after the 1989 earthquake, this part of San Francisco is built on top of landfill that was a dump.
The organic material in the dump has been rotting and shrinking for over 100 years.
Like the nearby Millennium Tower it is all sinking.
Question: If the SF Bay is rising, how come we don't need to raise the towers of the Golden Gate Bridge? It's made of steel. The bay is salt water. The steel will rust!
Answer: The foundation of the Bridge is built on rock.
Funny how the water isn't rising 4 miles away over by the bridge.

Factual and correct. As I'm sure you know, sidewalks are sinking throughout the Bayfront area.

Such convoluted contortions just to avoid a widely accepted fact. Some of your compatriots go the "It's not caused by humans" route, which takes a little bit longer to refute. Arguing that the seas are not rising at all is really quite silly and easily disproven. There are numerous records of this from around the world.

The ferry cost too damn much, does not run often enough or late enough in the evening.
The money should go to those issues.

The Port of San Francisco does not manage the ferries. They are managed by separate organizations: San Francisco Bay Area Water Emergency Transportation Authority, Treasure Island Development Authority, and Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District.

Poor reporting is why I rarely tune into KPIX. They go for big graphic pictures but idiotic explanations. Everyone's wondering how this helps the surrounding area which you can't raise? Who cares about this building if the entire coastline of SF goes under water! And if you raise a building by 7ft, it means you have to have stairs to access it unlike now. Are they going to have surround just the building with stairs?
