    Hankyu is a casual Japanese archery (Kyudo). The bow is a shorter than the original Kyodo, the distance to the target is closer, we shoot as we sit, but the fun is 100% the same!
    Today's Japanesquest, I want take you to Takayama's hidden gem "Hankyu Dojo"!

    Hankyu indeed is always great fun! It is still not very popular in Austria, but I real enjoyed playing Hankyu in my garden alone today. At the moment I am limited to low draw weights, because I did some damage to my shoulder in a riding accident. So Hankyu is the perfect archery sport!

    I love this channel! I just discovered you today.
    I'm more excited to learn from locals who vlog than just regular foreign tourists, if you know what I mean.
    Been to Japan four times, and I'm coming back this December and in July.
    I can't wait to learn more from your channel!

    I went there one night in 2020 after dinner, and was really fun! Hope they're still open.

    How far is the distance to the target in Your dojo?
    Here in Austria I play Shihanmato with my students for an 8,20m distance and we use the Hankyu too.

    Looks like fun, but why sitting? Is the stability that much greater?

      made for indoor-shooting at home - hankyu you shoot in seiza (kneeing position) -> not easy for beginners -> you take a little chair. look: kyudodetmold.de.tl/Dozukuri--k1-Stand-k2-.htm

    I never know that you can sit when shooting. That is interesting. Very Nice cinematic opening....

    What kind of release you use?

    • @xllab1
      @xllab1 6 років тому

      Zkmjs 5641 It looks like thumb draw.

    • @irzackihmj5259
      @irzackihmj5259 6 років тому

      xllab1 its not thumb draw, you can see their thumb are not hook on the string

      @karlgunther-turkisharchery4272 6 років тому +3

      It is pinch draw. Me and my students are the first to practice shooting the Hankyu and playing the bow game Shihanmato in Austria!

    • @xllab1
      @xllab1 6 років тому +1

      Avar Windfighters Makes sense. However, pinch draw is also used by "primitive" archers from Africa and America but with the arrow on the left side. I wonder why such a difference.

    • @karlgunther-turkisharchery4272
      @karlgunther-turkisharchery4272 6 років тому +1

      xllab1 I would it explain like that: most tribes, who hunt and fight by foot, have the arrow on the left side. Asian tribes, who were horseback archers, used thumb draw and the arrow on the right side, because this is easier and better on horseback (and no, I don't want to discuss about Kassai style now, because this was invented for modern sports). Samurai were mounted warriors, used Yumi and thumb draw. The weaker Hankyu was more the weapon of the peasents. They were told by the Samurai, so they had the arrow on the right side, even when they used pinch draw.

    Hy..where the market buys kyudo

    • @RoyMcAvoy
      @RoyMcAvoy 2 роки тому

      Kyudo is the style of archery, not to bow itself. If you're interested in the bow in the video, it's called a hankyu bow. It's shorter than the yumi bow used in the kyudo. Sarmat archery from Ukraine build this kind of bow and you can order from them. It's quite affordable.

    • @karlgunther-turkisharchery4272
      @karlgunther-turkisharchery4272 6 років тому

      This is Shihanmato not Kyudo! - You can practice the Shaho Hassetsu, the 8 steps, that lead to the perfect shot, in Shihanmato too, but most of the people, who compete with their Hankyu in Shihanmato tournaments don´t….

      You can shoot 10 arrows for 300 yen!
      Kuro Sensei will teach you how to shoot, so it is likely that visitors will hit the target with their first attempt :)

    Щипковый хват(удержание стрелы) не самый лучший... Разве для традиционной японской стрельбы из лука не характерен общеазиатский хват кольцом(большим пальцем),как у корейцев,монголов,или турок? ua-cam.com/video/ern8OLAbP-0/v-deo.html
