      It was probably an unusual amount of money. Like he said, Han's one of the best, so it was probably some serious cargo that he lost.
      I don't mind the scene that much. Yes it has CGI jank, but it's fun seeing Jabba out and about.

      Anyone who pays attention to George's changes at this point should know he has a knack for repurposing unintended gaffes into deliberate jokes. If George didn't think "You're a wonderful human being" made sense, he wouldn't have kept it in. Han is clearly being a smartass, at least he is in the context of how the scene now plays out.

    • @PiperSparkles
      @PiperSparkles 2 роки тому +5

      @AT Productions Of course, That's why it was kept in. George could have easily ADR'd it out with something else or muted it but he clearly chose to keep it in for a reason.

    The choice to have Han stamp on Jabba's tail is so weird. It puts Jabba in a real submissive position, like Jabba's the one who's supposed to be scared of Han, not vice versa.

      I think that’s sort of why they updated it in the 2004 version to make Jaba look more angry that he stepped on his tail. Hutts are known to be greedy so he quickly forgets when Han offers a bigger percentage. But they also adjusted the way he threatens Han at the end with a bounty look more menacing.

    The impression I received from Jabba in ROTJ is that he's a sedentary being that doesn't really go anywhere. All the field work is done by his emissaries and enforcers while he resides in his palace. It's therefore bizarre to see him leading a search for Han himself.

      1. The dialogue reuses certain lines from the Greedo scene. It's really strange to see Han repeat the exact phrase "even I get boarded sometimes. You think I had a choice?"

    I was so excited to see this scene when I went to the Cinema in 1997 because I've read the novelization of New Hope and this scene was in there but it wasn't in the original movie. Now come to think of it - I do agree it's actually better that this scene was left out because if they only talk about Jabba but he's not there, it makes him feel more powerful like he has this almighty reach all over the place + there's a suspense building up towards the 3rd movie. I was surprised people were so mad about the rereleases of the Star Wars movies. I thought most of the additions were pretty awesome. In particular I loved what they did with Empire and the Cloud City. The only thing I thought was dumb and unnecessary was that replacement of the band in the Jabba Palace. The original band was better.

    • @bernhardwall6876
      @bernhardwall6876 Рік тому +2

      I liked that they resurrected a scene that didn't make into the original cut. But it's not the scene I wanted to see most of all. When I was a kid in the 1970's, my school's library had a "Star Wars" picture book. It told the story, but had huge photos from the movie. One photo I most remember was of Luke and Biggs on Tatooine, and Biggs is saying goodbye to Luke. That would have made Luke's reunion with Biggs, and Biggs's death in the Death Star battle, more meaningful. Even more meaningful when you add that Luke's other wingman, Wedge Antilles, was the son of the late Captain Antilles, the pilot of the ship Vader captured at the beginning of the movie.

    Lucas should have never put this scene back in. The cgi was horrible in 1997 and only minimally better in 2004. Someone should redo this scene again now that the technology has so drastically improved.

    I think Jabba and Han got along very well to the point Jabba did not punish Han for stepping on his tail. However, to maintain his reputation, Jabba needed to punish Solo for jettisoning valuable Hutt cargo into space when Han's ship was boarded by Imperial patrols. Despite this, Jabba gave Han the chance to redeem himself by paying money (the cost the cargo was worth). Han tried to pay back but pirates who worked for Jabba stole the money Han had when he arrived in Tatooine.

      Han is clearly being sarcastic, at least in this new context of the scene, just like how a sound effect was added to the Stormtrooper who whacked his head into the door. You really think George would have left that line in if he didn't want it there? It's mean to be ironic humor.

    Han stepping on his tail is so stupid. They could have just cut to a shot of Boba Fett looking at them, possible raising his rifle slightly as Han's tone gets a bit more aggressive with Jabba. When they cut back, Han could be on the other side, but it would just appear as though he had walked in front of him off camera, rather than on his tail.

  • @Gedi2211
    @Gedi2211 4 місяці тому

    People who complain that the cgi Jabba looks fake are being silly. Whether it's with puppetry or computers, it will always be fake, since the character is ultimately not real. I personally don't see any difference between a puppet creature or a cgi creature. Plus, the puppet from Episode VI took a lot of effort to build and operate and would've been immobile for this scene.
    People will argue that puppets look physical, which they are, but when I see what are supposed to be aliens being portrayed with puppetry in newer star wars stuff, I cannot help but be reminded that I am seeing a puppet. It might've worked in the original trilogy at the time, but just because it did then, doesn't mean it will again.
    Star Wars is a Space Fantasy. It's not supposed to be realistic. It's an example of a Modern Myth.

      I dunno. It compliments the puppet by showing up and behaving in a way not possible for the puppet. It places Jabba in the first film in Luke’s general neighborhood. Before that, from the perspective of seeing ROTJ for the first time, one would be forgiven for thinking Jabba lived on an entirely separate sand planet, as there’s so many creatures in Jabba’s palace that didn’t appear in the first film, like the Gamorians, the Twileks, the Rancor and the Sarlacc.
      This Jabba is seen out in the open, moving about like the slug that he is while keeping the mouth and eyes moving in as much a way like the puppet as they could get it at the time. I just rationalized it back in 1997 as what Jabba would look like standing up and moving around as opposed to lounging as he does in ROTJ.
