Thank You. Thank You. Didnt know what I was going to do. Been one egg there for a week. Yesterday there was 3 eggs. I’m gonna make it rough. Again Thank You
My chickens for last 2 weeks didn't lay egg. Indeed they did but not where I expected and thought they got old and stopped laying ! But this evening I saw 25 eggs underneath tye cabinet in my carport ! Wha5 should I do ? It's summer and hot and don't know I they are safe to eat or should i leave them there to be hatched?
You can try putting some wood shavings or hay in the new nest box. Sometimes that will peak their interest. Also, buy a ceramic egg or two and put in there to give them the hint. When they see that it seems to encourage them to lay in that designated area.
I’ve had to block off under the chicken coop because they like to lay under there. Now I have some laying on the dirt of their yard. It’s a pain! They have so many nice nesting boxes and they all choose 2 or 3 out of the 6. If the box is busy I have some rebels that do this dumb stuff.
Sometimes they are just hard to break. I did a video called “how to break chickens from laying on the ground”, or something like that. Search for it on my channel. It works pretty well.
My hens won’t leave their perch. They leave the coop and go to the outside perch in the run or run to the patio and then perch on my patio chairs. They won’t eat or drink. They are 20 weeks old and are afraid of the roosters. I had one lay the first egg behind our grill. Help?? Nice nesting boxes in coop. They are constantly chased by the roosters. I have never had this happen before. Buff Orphingtons.
You might want to change roosters. Sounds like he is extremely aggressive. You might want to try putting him outside the pen and letting him just fend for himself while they are inside the pen, getting used to it, laying in the boxes, and getting to know it as Home. Then, try introducing the rooster later. But I would wait several weeks probably. Or… Get another rooster. Maybe a young one that is not ready to breed yet.
That’s difficult. I like using a rollaway nest box. That way they can’t really get to the egg. It rolls down into a chamber that they can’t get to… Therefore no pecking. Also, the eggs are very, very clean.👍🏻😊
@@BIGALTX WOW thats a great idea I never thought the rolling egg boxes were to keep them from pecking eggs I thought it was to keep them clean and the broody layers. WOW being new to chickens I just did not think about that. I am going to give this a try - Hey Thanks for getting back to me! I appreciate it just subscribed !

(Edit: Im sorry for the super long comment and question. I just wanted to explain my confusion in as much detail as possible. Please, bare with me, lmao.) Hmmm, i havent had this problem in the year and a half ive had them. This is my first time with them and i kinda got thrown into caring for them and basically focred to adopt them. I had absolutely ZERO knowledge on how to care for them, but ive learned. I only have 4 now. I had 5 when they first got here but one died like a week after they got here. They werent under my care at the time because they weren't mine at the time. Anyways, ive learned A LOT since ive taken over caring for them. I havent had this problem before, but literally just within the last hour i went up there and put a thin layer of diatomaceous earth on the ground of the pen and on the floor of their coop/nesting and sleeping coop. I then put a decently thick layer of straw on both the ground and in their coop. I didnt really use straw or anything during the summer months. I know i probably should have, but they were perfectly fine and comfortable. Now that its winter, i put the straw over top of the diatomaceous earth and now they wont go into their coop. They just have been laying in the pen under it for some reason. I have 4 wireless cameras that i can access 24-7. One is mounted inside of their coop up in the corner where they sleep and another one above the man door of the pen watching the entire coop from the outside. After putting in that straw, they wont go in their coop and will just lay under it where i wasnt able to put any straw because its just to tight of a squeeze and its fenced off. Is there a reason whyy theh wont go in all of a sudden after laying the straw? Ive used that diatomaceous earth in their dust baths all summer, soo i dont think thats the problem.
I really don’t know. That’s pretty unusual. Most chickens love straw. So… I think I would take out most of the straw. Where they can go into the pen and get used to it gradually. And then you can later add more back in the pen as they get used to it. Or… Once you get them in the pen, just leave them in there a few days without opening the door and letting them out. They’ll get used to it. In fact, they should begin to like it, like most chickens do.
Found a pile of eggs in the fire pit. Found a pile of eggs under the mower. Free rangers, cooped at night. I gathered eggs. Put fake eggs in nest boxes in coop. Kept chickens in coop all day until next morning. Moved mower. Burned stuff in fire pit. Tossed dog poop in fire pit. All eggs in nest boxes, now. Not seen any egg piles, lately...I'm sure I will....when one goes broody! Love em rascals!
They will certainly do that. You’ve got to try to stop it immediately or the rest of them will follow suit. You might have to get rid of that one bird… Not sure.
It’s ok if your chicken eats it’s eggs (as long as it doesn’t go on for weeks) Everyone over stresses egg eating Often I Find it’s from calcium deficiency so the shells aren’t as tough and then they’ll step on it, break it, eat it, then the next day they’ll know that they’re eggs taste good You can also put fake eggs in there and try and take out the actual egg/s ASAP and they’ll pack at the egg and it doesn’t crack they’ll give up eventually and forget about eating eggs (I’ve never had to use fake eggs my chickens just don’t egg them after a couple days (sometimes longer)
@@joebean3615I have one that’s been breaking eggs open for weeks. Today she had so much egg on her face that the others were trying to eat her face off. 🤦♀️. I’m in a hot mess right now with them. Plus they won’t lay in their nests anymore either. All over the coop and run. I am highly considering getting rid of the one gal doing it.
This is completely off-topic so I'll apologize in advance. I don't recall seeing you do this and I wanted to share it since I think it's neat. Sorry if you have and I missed it. In this video the lady makes dehydrated cooked beans: 'fast' beans. They're not as pretty when cooked but seem to make great refried beans. I truly don't see me doing a lot of this but the one advantage is they take very little cooking to reconstitute which is a big deal in a power outage. I have to try every cool thing I see so I will be doing this soon. ua-cam.com/video/n7iZSXOo6CA/v-deo.html I've only watched a couple of her videos (electric pressure canners) but I really like her. She's a scientist (Ph.D., not sure in what yet but I will find out) so her methods are sound and she's very careful to explain things well and help her viewers make good choices. JMHO but I get the sense what she does is safe. I really dislike channels that give out information that's not sound, especially with food safety and my read is she's careful. Again, that's just my sense on very little data but she speaks to the scientist in me. Anyway, if it doesn't interest you or if you already know about her I apologize for taking your time and if you don't want this on your channel, just delete this. I've learned so much from you I like the idea of being able to give back. I am very interested in her testing of electric pressure canners-she even has the sensor that goes in the jar just like the USDA and test kitchens use! My kind of gal.
Thanks! I will try this🐔

Great tips! I haven't gotten any eggs yet ( that i've found :) ) They are 17 weeks old
If they are 17 weeks old eggs should be coming any day now 😊
So funny! Your trying to get them in the box. I'm trying to get my broody silkies out of the box. I think I'll put my cattle panels in the nest box. 😁
Hahaha... THAT might WORK!!
Great Idea!!

Thank you! 😊
Does anyone have any tips to get the hens to start laying in the nesting box? I have pretty much the same nesting box shown on the video. Thanks
