It's sad that this band that was supposed to be "ultra-democratic" barely lasted a year before internal tensions ripped it apart, but at least they left us the 13 songs on "Ro Sham Bo", the finest 59 minutes of 90's power pop on the planet.
Sometimes, you just gotta let one person be the leader. At least that's what I have found being in bands with several songwriters and multiple egos. Each person always has the final say if it's their song or album or whatever. But you just gotta at least ATTEMPT to take turns and let everyone get a crack at it.
Funny, several years ago I finally checked out Ro Sham Bo and settled on a small handful of songs to include in my regular rotation and they were the exact songs featured here. I guess they really were the best songs on that record.
I’m so stoked to see this ! One of my favorite videos that I shot and directed for Mr. Al Masocco for Epic Records / Sony ! After I turned this in on 93,I didn’t even have a copy ! Thank ya My Brother Bob Ley for all your amazing help w/ everything’ All the guys were true gentlemen and absolutely Phenomenal Musicians! This really brings a big smile to my Face ! 💃♥️💥💜🙏🎶🎵!
AMAZING that Dan the drummer....became President of Capital Records THEN....President of Warner Brothers Records. Is that crazy or what? And STIIIIILLL!!!!.....No re-issue of RoShamBo anywhere to be seen!!!!! THAT right there...is the music business. N
Gosh, I forgot how great that album was. It still sounds great now. I used to play this over and over and over until i could memorize each little nuance.
I played Roshambo until the CD cracked😔 My husband won this CD at,a mixer in Santa Barbara otherwise I prolly never heard these guys. I like their how we met. Still listening in 2019.
Who says drummers aren't the brains of the operations in most bands? Dan McCarroll went from pounding skins in the 90's (The Grays, Lloyd Cole, Michael Penn) to the corporate boardrooms of the music industry. After heading up Capitol Records and Warner Brothers Records in the 2000's-2010's, he was hired by Amazon in 2018 as Global Head of Originals and Artist Relations.
I adore their record, and don't understand at all why they don't have the posthumous acclaim that Big Star does. Yes, Big Star came first, but as much as I like them I think The Grays did it better.
And then Jon would leave because he didn’t like that Jason’s songs were considered “better” by the producers. I love this band and Jon Brion but he’s kind of a egotistical diva.
Vastly overrated album. Trying waaaay too hard to be clever. Still a good 4/5 but by no means the work of genius the hyperventilating reviews would have you believe.
Jason Falkner is touring with St. Vincent currently.

Still one of my favorite albums ever.

This album deserves a reissue
As of 2021 an unnamed member wouldn't give clearance for a 30 year vinyl reissue. ☹️
I love this album...it's got everything and more...I can't believe that it's still an undiscovered slice of power pop perfection...
Very cool! The Grays have always been underrated, IMHO.
Surprised this wasn't big in the UK as it fits in perfectly with the Britpop vibe
Britpop vibe? I respectfully don’t agree….
They sound SO GOOD - I would've been psyched as hell
It's a great mystery as to how Jason has not become known to the wider public, he has the talent and the looks?
great

Where did you get the VHS tape? I was there for the shoot helping my friend Deano Mueller who was the DP
Excellent album. Was excited when it came out after the disappointment of Jellyfish breaking up, but then they only lasted one album.
These guys are like a cross between Stone Temple Pilots and
and what?

Whoa, slow down there buddy.

Funny, I thought there should’ve been more songs like Same Thing where they both featured. Maybe could’ve eased some tensions
That's too bad. I really like Jon's songs too though. I like both. They both had good songs to bring to the table.
Well get over it, Jon, Jason's songs are better.
@@ToneSherpaso did Buddy, his contributions to that album was incredible.
