120k miles is just getting broken in. Clean Build.
How much did u pay for your truck
@@24hrstolive27 $11k before tax title and fees
@@Etch_A_Fletch_ wow man how did you get it so cheap?
120k for this truck thats still brand new
Bro, you are the Man. 3d printing and adding a heat sink to the head unit
Solid video man! I've done most of these mods, but its cool to see what others have done on their vehicles and how they've implemented them. The fan in the head unit is freaking genius!
This is the cleanest build I’ve seen so far
Very nice setup. Thank you for the in-depth overview of your 4Runner.
love this video it really gives me great ideas for my 07’! and all the links helps so greatly too!
I love this build, thanks fore giving me the idea for the lift! I have a 2WD 4th gen and have been sweating spending a grand on new shocks and struts.
Love the lights on the roof rack, I need to get some now. I dont know anything about wiring so I've got some learning to do
I have the same car and this is literally what I envisioned when I think of what I’m going to do to my car.
Looks great! I have a 2005 V8, same exact color and everything. I have been slowly making updates as needed as well, and it looks like a lot of the stuff I have been contemplating has been done to your rig. I have had my eye on a grill that looks very similar to that one, just recently bought the ko2's, and have a lift on the way. Thanks for showing me the potential of what mine may be looking like in the next couple weeks!
I've also got an 05 v8. I love it. I have Falken Wildpeak MTs and they're quite nice, but I think I'll get some ATs like K02s for my next set, as I had some on my previous 97 4runner and I liked them more than the Falken's I've got now.
Since you're looking into suspension, I've got Dobinsons IMS coilovers and I've been extremely impressed with them. I highly recommend it if you're looking at suspension.
Very nice, well done build.. btw also bought the BFG’s same size @ Costco for $1200. kudos to you for getting it for such a deal.
He took advantage of the mysterious yearly buy 3 get 1 free!!
Great modifications on the 4Runner especially on the lights mounted on the roof rack and underneath the car.
Awesome work. I've got an '08 and it's been fun upgrading it one step at a time. I just got the lift, rims and tyres done. Up next, the grill.
Nice work! So much fun modifying these cars to make them ours.
I got my 4Runner a year ago too, I started out doing trail runs throughout Southern California but starting 6 months ago I started to customize mine. So far front lift & new tires, next I want some lights.
Very Nice! I'm building a 04 V8 same color, same rims. I like the lighting you did it works well with the 4Runner.
Great video dude I like the depth you went into with certain things like whether or not you did it yourself and a little bit on how. Appreciate that!
Wow! that grill mod looks super clean and stock. I've been looking to do mine, now I'll look for a 3rg gen Tacoma one
I love your 4Runner it looks great!
This thing looks sweet. Simple clean build.
Nice ride man! I bought my 2008 Sport V6 4wd with 170k on the clock 6 years ago and couldn't be happier with it. I'm envious how rust-free that thing must be!
Does it feel zippy/peppy?
@@triplea6174 For me it's plenty peppy, especially when passing. I did learn early on to leave it in 4th around town to eliminate it's desire to be in 5th

Awesome!! Really cool lighting 👍
Beautiful car, great mods. Very clean and tide.
Thank you!
Great mods! Subscribed!
247k miles on my 06 4Runner and still going. Super reliable and all stock
Truck looks good. Hope you get plenty of good years out of it.
Nice bro, this is slick!
I would pay you to install those add on on my 4Runner. Looks good man
I Love the video and the modifications
Very nice build. I have a stock 06 v8 with 247k miles. I decided to check around for some ideas on a new look and this popped up.
Woah that's a lot of miles! Thanks for stopping by! There's plenty of things you can do for a new look, hope you found some things you were interested in.
Beautiful Build Brother
Much appreciated
Your video made want to get one already lol ! Good video bro 🤙
You should! Thanks
I love the video keep it up!
Some amazing mods
nice looking 4runner! i have a 2005 2wd with the 4.7 V8 and l love mine. i sold my 18 wrx to carmax and have put a little money into mine as well. i went with the 5th gen toyota TRD off road wheels. i did Bilstein 5100's on front and back and a Gibson cat back and lots of maintenance done as this motor is a interference motor and the timing belt needed to be changed. those tires look really good. im going with those next time for sure.
Awesome build already for you! Congrats. I love the way the tires look too, just not sure they’re worth the mpg hit.
@@Etch_A_Fletch_ I did hankook dynapto at2’s. It’s a good all around tire. Maybe Goodyear wranglers’s instead.
Hows the ride comfort after installing the 5100 bielstein suspension?
Looks great!
Awesome rig! Done well!
Some very nice mods
A great innovative build. I really liked your video. You have great insights, just use a better microphone so we can hear what you have to say clearer next time!
Thank you!! I’ll be using a better mic next time 👍🏼
Beautiful 4Runner!
The grill is sick very nice
loved the modifications, can you make a video going in-depth on how you ran the welcome lights under the car to turn on when the door opens ?
Yes I'll include that in the follow up video I am working on.
@@Etch_A_Fletch_Wow... nice mods!! I am exited to watch the follow up video you said working on...about the lights and other wiring staff. I hope you post some time soon! Anyways, Happy new year!!!
This dude is next level with doing custom mods on the head unit to add a heat sink
Thanks! Almost 2 years now still going strong.
VERY VERY NICE MODIICATIONS!!! PROPS!!!😎😎😎
This is awesome
That so so cool I'm looking at 08 with 190 miles very very clean and in great condition V8 4w drive and all these things make it look so clean, I don't know squat about upgrading car but man so I want to
That’s awesome! There are so many upgrade possibilities for this car for all experience levels, I’m sure you’ll make some mods of your own in no time.
I will have to do a few of these on my 07 sport salsa red 4x4 4.7L v8 dual Arb Lockers Rig
That’s all the best options! Going to be sick! Enjoy.
Buyin one tomorrow, can't wait.
Congrats! You’ll love all the forum posts and videos online for mods and maintenance
Stereo is dope
Great video
Beautiful
Great Build
The added fan to the head unit was clutch, out of curiosity will you doing an install video on that? Not too savy when it comes to electrical stuff myself. Overall great build, great look!
bump
It's as simple as buying the right fan and basically plugging it into the motherboard then securing it. Very simple process.
I’m not planning to do a video install on it. There are other videos out there that will do a way better job of explaining it than I can haha.
I don’t see alot of videos on the 4th gen runners, maybe I’ll make a video on mine too. Great truck
Yes you should! I love all the videos and info that people have posted online, the community is great.
The lights on the frame underneath that light up when doors open, was it hard to configure or setup and was the headunit regarding the backup camera hard to setup as well? Wondering if you can do a video on how you set those 2 up. I like how minimal you kept it and love all the interior infotainment is. I'm hopefully will be getting into a 4 runner again soon because I have 3 dogs and will be most likely be setting up the back cargo and seating area the same. Glad I stumbled onto your channel and video! Out of everything you set up, I like the wheel setup, infotainment inside from the phone holder to screen and backup area was cool. I'd want the same setup. I listen to a lot of music when I'm driving and my girls do too so hopefully I can set it up for them. They love sticking their heads out the window and going bye bye is what going for a ride means for them. I'll be mostly going to Cali hitting the road with them alot. Thanks for the video dude cool setup!
Hey thanks man! Means so much. Im happy with how its turned out and appreciate all the positive feedback. The joying head unit was a risk but it has really paid off, its been great for me. Since I posted this video I upgraded the cloth to black leather via a premade kit by a company called Katzkins. I was planning to make another video on that and can include some sections to talk about the under lights and back up camera. The back up camera wasnt too difficult to install, hardest part was threading the cable through the rubber sleeving to get it to the spoiler. I accidentally wired the cable too short and made it way harder than it needed to be. Alway be sure to add way more slack in the wiring than you think you'll need! Lesson learned. Be on the lookout for that updated video.
@@Etch_A_Fletch_ for sure dude.. I'll keep an eye out, I just thought it was really awesome that the under lights faded out the way it does and that sounds badass you upgraded to katskinz I'm sure their quality is amazing. Overall I like that you keep your lights minimal. Awesome work! I was really surprised how bright the roof rack lights are!
Hey Alex can you make a video on how you wired the area light when opening the door. That's pretty awesomeness. Would definitely add that to my rig.
I would also love a video walking us through this the best you can without having to rip it all apart. I think it’s a great feature to have it setup to work on auto or manual as desired. Is there maybe a write up on one of the forums somewhere on how to do this?
Can you do a video adding the fan to the auto head unit? 👍
I really enjoyed your video, thank you! Is there anyway you could show how you did the wiring for the rock lights? Did you use the existing wiring thats there for the side steps? Thank you!
Thanks Luis! The wiring for the rock lights is tied into the dome circuit or a constant 12v source depending on the 3 position switch I also wired in. There are four lights all wired in parallel so there’s just one cable having to go through the firewall.
Thanks for the reply!
Hi Alex, awesome build, I have a an '07 myself same galactic grey just hit 100k miles on it, I love it. quick question I see you've been bombarded already lol, where did you connect the charging cable for your phone mount? and is it attached via 3M? Thank You
Thanks man! Not a problem, I found so much helpful info on YT to give me inspiration so I'm happy to give back. The phone mount was originally mounted with double sided tape (3M commercial grade very high bond) for about a year before it started to fail. Since this video was posted I went ahead and drilled two holes to add bolts to hold it to the dash. I figured if I was happy with the location for a year I might as well make the mount more secure. Only bad thing is that it sometimes gets in the way of large water bottle or cup if i need to put one in that location.
Very nice and clean. Unfortunately for me, I’m having frame rot rust issues
I replaces my frame with one from down South. It wasn't cheap, but what else do you do when you can put a screw driver through the frame.
You can sometimes get people who are good at welding certain points on the Frame. I'd look into that first, if it seems reasonable.
@@tigergreg8 I just got my frame repaired by a local fabrication shop. I’m curious, how much did a complete frame replacement run you?
@@comradeivan8134 With everything all together, s$10,000 Ya, you read that right, If you had anything below 6000 for a good repair, you did very well.
@@tigergreg8 Oh wow, you weren’t kidding. Yeah all told my repairs came out to $2,800, and for the amount of work he had to do, he could have charged me a lot more. As much as I’d like an entirely new frame, if I get another 100,000-150,000 out of it I will be happy.
@@comradeivan8134 Man, I would have been willing to lose a nut to just pay $2800. 😂
Do all the regular stuff regularly and you’ll get the mileage.
your not normal bro your a scientist when it comes to mods lol
This is one of the simplest cleanest builds ive seen! Curious if you still have the same head unit in it
Yep! Still doing great. Appreciate the compliment.
Raw and uncut
2006 198,000 miles SR5 V6 love this truck. I'm going to retire soon, take the truck back from my son who uses it for his daily driver and start doing some mods for the next 200,000 miles.
Wish you all the best!
Hey can you share more on how you did your back up camera modification?
Were you not a fan of the OEM side steps/Rock sliders? I'm debating to take mine off or not, but I don't really know if i'll like it.
I took them off and haven't regretted it at all. Usually I didn't even use them to get in/out but my pants would brush up against them and get dirty. They're very simple to remove/install so you can always try it out and reinstall if it isnt for you.
awesome
what a dream
Nice job!
Thanks!
Nice rig!
Thank you!
very nice.
I see the stick headlights.. I am wondering if you will replace those some time? or keep them? I have the same galactic grey color and am contemplating getting blacked out headlights
I did upgrade the bulbs to LEDs for both low beams and high beams. I thought about changing to an aftermarket version but honestly the stock ones don’t bother me. If they weren’t projectors then I’d probably be more inclined to upgrade. Plus that’s a $$$$ upgrade.
Mine are starting to look a bit yellow, might be time to sand and recoat with 2K clear.
Checkout “rickyspanish_4runner” on Instagram. He’s a buddy of mine that also has a galactic grey 4Runner and he has a great set of lights.
Your an animal I love u 4runner wow.
Thanks so much for putting this together! Quick question... I have an 07 4runner Limited. Joying keeps telling me that the only two that will fit on mine are the 7" and 8". Obviously that's not true if I don't mind the screen not fitting in the slot, which I don't. Did you have to do anything special to make the 10" work? Thanks
The 10” display as it comes will not fully lock into place on the head unit. The display is detachable from the head unit with quick connects and then there’s a video cable that plugs in. I added longer machine screws with a ton of small washers to attach the quick connects to the back of the display to make the display stick out further. It needs to stick out about an inch further to not contact the dash. Easy peasy once you figure out what screws and how many washers you need.
@@Etch_A_Fletch_ smart man! Thank you so much! Essentially anything will fit if you try hard enough 🤣🤣
@hurricanessoccer24 where did you get that rubber mat and material is it. It's a great idea
It’s rubber material that I purchased from Home Depot. You can find it next to the artificial turf.
For the people who want a grille like the one in this video, check out our channel!
Did you have a link to the joying wiring harness? All of the harnesses seem to be for the non American models on the website. Great video!
Thanks! When I ordered the joying head unit, I added in the Toyota wiring harness it recommended. I couldn’t find the link, the website isn’t the most descriptive unfortunately. It must’ve changed since I ordered. I’d bet the non American model would use the same harness though.
Great video! Gave me some ideas for my T4R. Would this lift allow for 285 70 17s?
I had to trim the front fenders, body mount, and hammer down the welded seam. I’m sure with more cutting you’ll be able to fit 285s. To be honest though, having tires that big with the same lift I have will make it look like it isn’t lifted at all. I’ve had people think my setup doesn’t have a lift with my tires and lift combo.
It would be nice to go back to C loaded tires as 275s are only in E load.
Great video! Do you have a link for the wireless charger phone mount? Also super interested in how you changed the orange LEDs out on the dash
Thanks! I’ve since upgraded to a MagSafe compatible mount that is way better than the mechanical mount. Search on Amazon for “wireless magnetic phone charger”. The brand isn’t important and it changes all the time.
For the LEDs, there’s a couple other videos on UA-cam that explain it better than I can.
Sick build! how many MPG do you typically get with your mods?
16mpg city, 18mpg highway. I got about 3mpg better before the mods. Tires made the biggest impact on the fuel economy.
with all the lights you’ve added or upgraded, I was wondering if it is a good idea to get a bigger battery? Sorry, I don’t know much about these type of things and am trying to learn more. great looking 4Runner tough.
Thank you! Most of the lights are relatively low powered and not all used at the same time. I did opt for a higher quality battery but will probably just keep 1 unless I start going on more camping trips where I need more juice.
Your 4r is so clean! I'm interested in getting the head unit you have. Can you share the heat sink/fan info?
Thank you sir! I’ve added links to the heatsink and fan in the description.
@@Etch_A_Fletch_ how do you make it to where the fan turns on with the radio
Amazing build dude! What back up camera did you use that ties in the head unit?
It was the standard camera that was an add on from the Joying website.
How did you wire the backup camera ?? To the reverse lights or the license plate lights
how hard was the head unit install? was it like a plug the wires in and enjoy type deal or was it more complicated?
Nothing out of the ordinary from any other type of head unit install. I did add in the cooling parts as I mentioned in the video and then I had to add a spacer to keep the screen from contacting the dash. Check out this write up for more info. www.top4runners.com/ja/2007/android.html
Hi , nice job I’m interested knowing what type of LED you used for the cluster panel? Thank you
Hello, thank you! I added a link in the description to the leds I used :)
How difficult was it to install the LEDs, soldering?
the factory red lights in mine are way better at night for ones eyes..and I am a pilot with red lights in my aircraft those white lights as background are not good for night driving..but takes away from the commodification video
Where did you get the switches for the footwell lights? I was thinking of adding those! Most come with a cigarette charger!!!😂 I’m assuming you cut that off. Was it hard to get them to come on with the door opening? Thanks.
The switch you are looking for is "Cole Hersee SPDT 12V Switch 58027-03". Wiring into the door lights was a little tricky since you have to know whether you're looking at a wire that is a switched ground or switched 12v positive. Once you have a wire identified it's simple. I tapped into the same wire I used for the map light mod
@@Etch_A_Fletch_ thanks. Are you able to turn them in while you drive as well? Or just when the doors open?
I love the grill. Can you share more about how to made the modification?
I bought a trd grill from someone who had a Tacoma and basically hacked away until it fit in the spot of the 4Runner grill. With the help of many zip ties and epoxy we’ve got a finished product. Cover it all with a coat of paint and it looks brand new!
Please did you get the simple Toyota joying harness or the joying Toyota canbus harness? I want to be sure that the steering wheel controls are working.
Please help me answer the questions above.
Simple Joying harness
did you have to remove the rear bumper to install the hitch? or does cutting out the middle notch give you enough room to bolt it in?
I removed the bumper to install it. It would be hard to do it with the bumper still on
Greeting bro! Do you think with the same wheel and tyres size with a 2.5” lift and no spacers would I also need to trim? Thanks a lot!
I think you’d need to trim just a little bit of plastic with that setup. Honestly every vehicle is a little different though, some are able to get away with any trimming at all with bigger builds.
I had to trim plastic, fold the pinch weld, and do a body mount chop. If I’m heavy at a full lock low speed turn I’ll still get a little rub.
@@Etch_A_Fletch_ Thanks a lot! Your video was of much help!
Do you happen to have a link for the rear chrome piece that you replaced on the trunk? I want to make mine galactic grey as well but can’t seem to find it anywhere
I bought it off a seller on eBay. Just did a search and found another one for sale. The listing is titled “Toyota 4Runner 2003-2009 Tail gate Garnish Panel blue with emblem 76801-35460” by seller “oem-autopartz”.
Great video. Will you share the link with me for the badge on the rear hatch? I’m striking out in my searches. Cheers.

what did you use to get the steering wheel controls to work? only thing i need to figure out since there's no volume knob on the joying.
Nothing special, they worked right out the get go with the joying head unit.
Lack of a physical knob was my biggest concern too, I even ordered a discontinued joying Bluetooth volume control knob to Jerry rig one. That knob was a piece of total junk and was $20 wasted.
I found using the existing volume control buttons on the steering wheel to be just fine and it’s what I use 99.9% of the time. It also helps it doesn’t take many presses to get the volume just right (volume level 15) to quiet (volume level 0). Anything above volume level 20 is too loud.
Where did you get the black trd exhaust tip? It’s looks gnarly 🔥
Thanks! I got it here however you’ll need to add a spacer of some sort between the OEM exhaust and the trd tip. The trd tip is about a half an inch too big. I bent some thin metal into place and then tightened the bolt on the tip

@@Etch_A_Fletch_ Thanks boss
@@Etch_A_Fletch_ thanks for the advice, cause I brought the same exhaust tip, and noticed the gap too! Now I know how to install it
Hey thanks for the video. Planning to install a joying unit.. does it fit without trimming? any issues so far with it?
I had to make the screen stick farther out so it wouldn’t contact the side vents. I did that by getting longer screws and adding 25-30 washers on each screw to dial in the fitment I needed.
Going on over 2 years with head unit now with no major problems. Every couple months it’ll restart randomly but I’ve found it won’t happen as often if I clear the cache every couple of weeks. The paint on the back of the monitor faded to a bronze color after 10 months or so. I brushed on some new paint and it hasn’t been an issue. I highly recommend the joying unit still!
@@Etch_A_Fletch_ Awesome, thanks for the reply!
Did you get the universal head unit harness from the joying website?
I ordered the Toyota wiring harness from Joying
What was the knock sensor issues?? Just curious. I’m having traction control issues on mine.
My issue was a failed knock sensor on drivers side. Out if the blue I got a check engine light for failed knock sensor and if I didn’t clear the code the engine would go into a semi limp mode to save itself which meant I’d get like 5mpg. If I cleared it with a code reader it would come back within twenty miles of driving.
Pain in the rear to replace but I read online people getting quoted $4k by the dealer. I did it for $80 in parts and 8 hours of time.
Good luck to you with your traction control, start with a code reader.
Howdy Noah, not enough information but you might try this:
Make sure you are completely stopped. Put the car in park if you can.
Press and hold the VSC button for a few seconds.
The TRAC OFF and VSC OFF indicator light will come on. Both systems are now off.
Press the VSC button again. Both lights will turn off and the systems are now reengaged.
Also, believe it or not, the traction control can be interfered with due to a faulty O2 sensor or gas cap not sealing properly.
Do you have a link to the wiring harness you used from Joying?
When ordering the joying head unit, having a wiring harness included was an option I selected at checkout.
Where did you get the lights under the rear bumper from?
Those are from Amazon, cheap brand, nothing special.
Does the Joying 10.1 touch screen block the air vents at all?
No, this was my main concern given the size but it hasn't been an issue. The camera makes it look worse than it really is.
