    They're not offshoring those jobs because people don't want to go back to the office. They're doing it to lower costs. The pandemic showed that a lot of jobs can be done remotely without losing that much productivity and therefore it can be done remotely by someone in another country for 50% less.

    I do understand what you are saying and as others says this has been going on since I stated in call centers 10 years ago. The one thing that may keep some here is customers hate speaking with outsourcing agents. I hear several times a week they are glad I’m American and they can understand me. I have even had some callers complain about not understanding some dialects of my American colleagues.

    I work for a large management consulting firm. The trend in outsourcing is moving up the value chain to more sophisticated analytical roles. Used to be outsourcing focused on transactional repetitive processes. Now that all those jobs have been outsourced, they are moving into analytical jobs requiring judgment and sophistication. We’re talking to clients now about outsourcing parts of FP&A, close/consolidations, and other sophisticated work.

    This is boomer FUD. I've been working tech (software development) for over 20 years. During my entire career they've been trying to "offshore" expensive tech work with only limited success. It can work to augment in-house/on-shore FTE staffing, but tasks delegated to the offshore teams must be highly curated and packaged in a such a way they can execute without direct supervision. That in itself takes time from the expense "on-shore" people. If the task descriptions are vague, timezones are a killer, as DAYS, not hours are lost if communication is less than perfect.

    I work in commervial HVAC so we see many diverse companies and deal with the facilities managers. I'm in the Silicon Valley/SF area. Many times I'm one of, if not the only American on a floor in a building, most of the workers are immigrants, often on H1b visas. These workers are smart and hard working. Why would that company pay an Indian visa worker $100k a year to work from home in the bay area when they could pay that same person $20k a year to work from India?

    They work for alot less than 30 to 50%. My gf from the Philippines has a good paying job in PH in the biggest city and she makes $2.5 USD per hour that same job in America is $40 per hour or more. She speaks perfect English and is very smart it's insane the amount of arbitrage there is!

    Ken, you’re late to that party. Companies have been offshoring ALL types of jobs for decades. They didn’t need the current remote revolution to incentivize them. Having said that, office work has forever changed and never going back. Sorry you’re having a tough time accepting that reality.

    • @mph5896
      @mph5896 Рік тому +6

      You re correct office work has changed and is not going back. Unfortunately US companies will cheap out and chase the cheap labor (outsourced to other countries remote). That was the entire videos point.

      agreed. And to those controlling boomers that have to have people in the office is for one reason and one reason only, they love power. They'll try and outsource to save money and in the end it will be there downfall

    • @mg-by7uu
      @mg-by7uu Рік тому +6

      @@mph5896 They already outsource where they can. But managers want workers who can communicate effectively and are highly skilled. In my experience the vast majority of cheap labor can barely speak English and need constant oversight and guidance from on-shore resources.

    • @maryd1495
      @maryd1495 Рік тому

      @@mph5896 That depends on the quality of work that they want done. They will have to offshore it to people who are very proficient in English with writing and speaking. Not to mention that some of the remote work is highly specialized. So it would take a remote person, who specialized in the subject matter and can communicate well with the clients. I don’t think all companies will change to that.

    They did this with my wife. 2 months later they called her and asked her to help on a contractor basis, then another month her boss quit. The problem is, data entry only requires functional training. Which the oversees people can do. But if a job requires the ability to just know the business and how to "figure it out" when needed, they can't do.

  • @Helthurian
    @Helthurian Рік тому +7

    This is illogical. If a job can be done remotely, then yes it'd be considered as an offshore option. However, going into the office won't save you if thats the case. You cost the company more by being in the office. The simple fact is, if a corporation can offshore something, they will, regardless if you're remote or not.

    The biggest issue with outsourcing certain jobs overseas is the time difference. If you have a higher level job in something like software design, you NEED to be having meetings with vendors to know the requirements for the project (something that changes on a daily basis). If you are too far away in a radically different time zone, good luck.

    I don’t know this for a fact but I don’t think my employer would outsource my job as an insurance sales agent and I work from home full-time for almost 3yrs. My job requires you to have a state license which also requires you to live in the United States and in the regulated insurance industry every sales agent has to have a license and maintain a license to sell insurance but I’m sure there is a way to hire overseas to do my job. A lot of Americans don’t like dealing with someone in India or out of the United States because they don’t speak well enough and it’s hard to understand them. I’m a chat sales agent and I normally talk to my banks via chat and I can tell when someone is not American. The words they use and their grammar is a dead give away and it is annoying to me. I am less likely to do business with a company that outsources to overseas than a company that keeps their service in-house and in the states but I’m sure there’s a way to replace my job just like there’s a way to replace your job too Ken. Dave Ramsey could outsource your job too and save money but do you think he will? I don’t think so.

    Is this your first time hearing this???? I feel disappointed that you're just hearing about this? Animation for instance is outsourced, for the most part. A lot of jobs are already outsourced. How are you just hearing this for the first time?
    A lot of companies are adapting to remote work and hybrid. I know of some that got rid of the office and are full remote. They haven't gotten rid of their workers. They are supporting the full remote work and they are investing back into their employees as well. Of course there will be those that go fully abroad but there will always be the cultural disconnect that will make it harder to work with abroad workers. But it will be a mix bag.

    Up until recently, the balance of power had been tilted toward employees, thanks to the white-hot labor market. But the gathering economic storm clouds and layoff announcements have given bosses a bit more leverage, Challenger said. Now, some CEOs might be tempted to use it as a way to either bring employees back to the office or get rid of them.

Bottom line work culture has died in America , hustle culture is dead no one not going to work to be disrespected. I am 43 about to have my PhD . I work. A lot of it is fear-mongering though especially India most of the country is impoverished and doesn't get a standard or technical education. It's not like they have tens of millions of super skilled workers that can step in and take over. It was incompetent programmers in India that caused the 737 Max to crash just one example
