I generally use the 1/8 all the time for nearly everything I shot. I have a 1/4 but it's to much for me to keep it permanently on the lens, at least when I'm not shooting just portraits
I used the full stop pro mist for about a year on almost every shot. it looks AMAZING on portraits in more balanced light. it doesnt glow as much since there is no harsh light, but it softens your subjects skin and just the image in general. i would always shoot in more balanced light and just pump the contrast back up in editing. softens skin and rolls highlights into shadows, but you still retain good contrast after editing it back in
I think they do a fantastic job of de-digitising photos, on my Fuji cameras with baked recipes and sharpness reduction plus 1/8 - 1/4 pro-mist it’s really possible to get the ‘film look’ - love your channel bro been following for years / insane work
Great photos as always Evan! I think, for me, the 1 stop pro-mist is a little 'too much' in general (though it does look awesome at night!) but the aesthetic does have a much more stylistic effect and if that's what you're going for they look great. If you're having fun with the pro-mist, I'd also recommend you try out the glimmer-glass which is much more subtle. I actually have a 1-stop glimmer glass filter attached to my X100V all the time now, its much more subtle than the pro-mist (I only have 1/4 pro-mist) but I've loved the photos since putting that on so much I just never take it off!
Great video. I like the glow effect. I edit all my photos by transferring them to my iPhone and edit using Snapseed because it has great glow tool. I put a slight glow on all my pics especially wedding pics and landscapes otherwise they are too sharp. We don’t see life as sharply as todays great cameras. I shall try a glow filter. Thanks again for great channel.
You might like the Lensbaby Velvet 56 or 85. It's really soft wide open and you can really dial it in when you stop down. Of course, it's a lot more expensive than a filter.
Great video, per usual. I love the Tiffen pro mist filter. I generally use the 1/8 over the 1/4 as I found the 1/4 is just a little too “dramatic” for my taste. Portraits and day shots are fun, but these filters sure do awesome in low light and night street photography. Awesome captures, man. Keep up the excellent work.
I have a Cinebloom 20% from Moment that I like alot, I use it mostly for hard direct sunlight ie. sunrises or sunsets or night street photography. I love the looks but I agree, too much of a good thing is bad
I've actually been thinking of getting one of these for a while but since taking pictures is just a habit for me I keep putting it off. And I'm also even more disappointed that I didn't make it back to Ponce City Market at night.
I have a 1/4 which is abit strong so I just purchased a glimmerglass 1 to test for backlit shots or let me make it even stronger by stacking the two I guess!
Crazy how there’s like nobody there. I have the same carnival come to west palm beach every January (literally might be the same traveling fair) and it’s so hard to do clean photos it’s overwhelmingly packed with people
Hi i just ordered the 1/4 52mm for my sigma 30mm lens according to the tiffen lens to filter chart. So do i need to buy any kind of step up ring as well along with it? If yes then which one?
I agree about the risk, and I think you can emulate this effect in post without destroying the original. But cool to see nonetheless. Another great video Evan
Did you notice any loss of sharpness from the photos you took with the promist filter on? I have the 1/4 filter and sometimes my photos look a little soft. Great video as always!
Amazingly, promist has EVEN MORE of an effect on video. 1 stop would be entirely too much for me. Interesting to see the differences in the effect from video to photo.
just take simple UV filter, and spray some silicone or vaseline on it, will be almost the same result and less money spend, but more effect control and creative way. Done, you're great.
Thank you for dealing with this topic. Kyle McDougal had an interesting video on this topic too (although the pro mist filter was just one of his suggestions to better mimic film photography by digital means: ua-cam.com/video/-6qC0h0c1Ls/v-deo.html
I wouldn't agree that the Tiffen Pro Mist is the most underrated filter, it's probably the most overused filter. The Glimmerglass is a lot more subtle if you want to take away that digital look but don't want the picture to have that 1980's dreamy effect all the time.

Is 1/4 the best one to go for?
@@AndyCombes1/8 and just leave it on all the time
I really enjoyed the come shoot with me and here is what it could look like vibe. It was an awesome experience!

Sold me on needing one of these filters. Now i gotta decide between this none and glimmerglass 😅

I love my 1/4 Pro Mist filter. I use it for just about everything I do.
I started using Glimmer Glass on my x100f for street… give it a try. Most feel it’s better than Pro-Mist.
Your tones and colors are always on point!

The intensity of the filters@@ricardoramirez1727
never tried one, I will do it soon for sure after this video. Thank you Evan!
I'm going to have to pick one of those 1 stops up.
Great video, I use manfrotto magnetic filter to quick change. Really helpful piece of kit.
Love love the retro vibe it gives!!! I love this effect!!! 🔥🔥❤️ Got to get hands on one of them 💯
wow great photos. love the dreamy look 😍

Hey! You said anyone using a 1 stop was crazy :P love using it.
I've actually been thinking of getting one of these for a while but since taking pictures is just a habit for me I keep putting it off.
And I'm also even more disappointed that I didn't make it back to Ponce City Market at night.
1 stop I think is too much of a good thing, but those Ponce Market photos came out absolutely crazy
I can’t find any 1 stop flters is that a thing?
I have a 1/4 which is abit strong so I just purchased a glimmerglass 1 to test for backlit shots or let me make it even stronger by stacking the two I guess!
Pro mist filters are absolutely my favorite. I haven't gotten one myself but I really want to
May I ask, what filter, or LUT is this video filmed with, I love the glow effect, color vibe. Nice vid bro 🇺🇸🔥
Crazy how there’s like nobody there. I have the same carnival come to west palm beach every January (literally might be the same traveling fair) and it’s so hard to do clean photos it’s overwhelmingly packed with people
Hey. Cool video. I enjoyed it. Thanks for the content and hard work.
That candy stand pic looks like it’s from 1977. So sick! Man, Mimi miss the ATL.
What filter (lens or program) do you use to make your room look so colorful?
2nd comment after watching more of the video I recognize the candy store photo from your book. One of my favs along with the diner.
I had to pause the video every time a photo popped up on screen, just to take it in, as you didn't leave them on for long enough!
Everything old is new again back in the 1970 we used a uv filter and baby oil and got the same affect
love that story :)
Can i use it combined with a Cpl?
What diameter filter fits the Q2? 49mm?
Hi i just ordered the 1/4 52mm for my sigma 30mm lens according to the tiffen lens to filter chart. So do i need to buy any kind of step up ring as well along with it? If yes then which one?
Theses photos are extremely good really Im envying them, what is the lens used please ?
Do u have 1/4 or 1/8? I've just bought 1/8 for fuji x100v and it's amazing!
totally agree I prefer the night pics

How can you emulate this effect in post?
@@Keilnoth Blur only the whites of the photo and using a mask to refine the areas you want to affect or not
Definitely want this
what if i want exactly the opposite of this? a very sharp crisp, defined light bulb? i need to shoot lamps in interiors..
do you recommend kase brand? its magnetic function is very convinent and impressed me.
who's the guy he mentions at 1:01?

He is another great photographer youtuber
What’s the difference between the BPM 1/4 and the regular pro mist 1/4 diffusion filter?
Who did you say your favorite UA-cam photographer was at 1:10? Voolandeys?
Vuhlandes
Hey Evan, are you using a black pro mist or a regular pro mist filter for the photos in the video ?
Black Pro Mist 1
Is there a link for the 1 stop pro mist filter on Amazon?
Glimmer glass is a bit more cinematic, and a bit less greasy smugde on the lens.
oops this is the first youtube video that's made me buy something in a while
Is this a pro mist or black pro mist
Did you notice any loss of sharpness from the photos you took with the promist filter on? I have the 1/4 filter and sometimes my photos look a little soft. Great video as always!

I have sigma 35mm1.4 art whats filter is good?
does it works in raw images or jags
Is there a difference between the pro mist and a fog filter? LOL in the old days vasseline would be an easy way to achieve the same effect.
everyone seems to use the 1/8th, even the top commentator says the 1/4th is far too much. but i think the 1 stop promist looks really good.
can remake this filter on my lens with a little bit of eyebrow sweat and grease
I got myself a pro mist, but now it's stuck in my lens adaptor 🙄
Just did a similar video on my channel. They are fun to use for sure.
I wonder if applying an Orton effect in post processing would mimic the pro mist and mean that you wouldn't have to keep it on the lens all the time.
I use Norton effect on almost all my photos.
Reminds me of Cinestill Tungsten film.
Can someone link that channel that Evan is referencing in this vid? Thanks.

Who’s the UA-camr he’s referring to in the video kinda want to check his work. Please and thank you

I take a strip of bacon and clean the lens with it every time before using and have the same kind of look.

I didn’t even consider that! On a flat profile or log I bet it’s sooo much at one stop!
I used this and returned it. It ruined my portraits. Made them too hazy
