I came to this video not because I'm majoring in Sociology but because I'm taking an Intro to Sociology course in the spring so I wanted to learn more about it. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏾🙏🏾
I have a lot of questions How do you revise for sociology ? Typically for other subjects how did you revise ? What subjects are really easy ? As for sociology, do you think it is an easy subject ?
Hi! Did you start your course with foundation year or year 1? You made me think I want to study the same! I’m on business management and I hate it 🙄 it’s foundation year for me and I hope I’ll be able to change for sociology 🍀💙 you are great!!
Hey! Thanks for the lovely comment, I started on year one. Most, if not all, universities in the UK only begin at year one for Sociology. Hope you're able to switch courses if it's right for you :)
heyyy thanks so much for this I'm glad I found your channel. I'm thinking of studying a double major of sociology and media studies when I start uni next year... I kinda thought this might be a good option since the skills of critical thinking and ability to gain a broader knowledge of society that you get from sociology might be useful when it comes to understanding the media as well. as someone who studied sociology do you think these would be two subjects that would intertwine well and set me up well for my future after university?
100%, I love the way you're thinking about how the degrees will benefit you and increase your skillset. Those 'soft skills' (hate that phrase but so be it lol), are really attractive to any employer really. As long as you're interested in those subjects, you'll be good for after uni
Do you think the stigma of ‘sociology isn’t employable’ is starting to fade away? Do you think companies will see the benefit of having a sociology graduate in their company. As you said, most of society don’t understand sociology, I think this applies to companies aswell. What do you think? (Obviously, it depends on the company) but generally speaking
I think there still is a general misunderstanding of Sociology, *but* that being said, it's all about how you market yourself and present Sociology as applicable to the job one applies for
absolutely! most universities in the UK will allow you to apply without having studied it at A level or GCSE. however they will require / prefer you to have studied an essay-based subject at A level or GCSE
@@narutoglazer404 In my experience, the ONLY 10,000 piece of writing was my dissertation, it seems like a lot but by the time you do all the research, write all the sections out (usually around 10), 10,000 seems way too little!
Hey there, you could look up academic journals in places such as SagePub or Google Scholar for topics you're interested in. There should also be online courses you can do too, good luck:)
"Thanks to sociology I understand... that school uniforms prepare us to be uniformed workers of capitalism..." Well... sociology at its best. Sociology doesn't teach you how to see reality, sociology teaches you how to interpret anything as oppressive capitalism. School uniforms are meant to reinforce equality, to prevent bullying against children from weaker socio-economic backgrounds. The Journal of Educational Research (2003) found that uniforms can reduce dress competition and emphasize the role of education over social status. Educational Psychology (2007): uniforms can reduce bullying related to fashion brands or clothing. If uniforms can be criticized for anything, it is that they do help, but it cannot be thought that uniforms alone will prevent bullying, etc. But psychology will still have to respond to the revolutionary contribution of sociology, which has seen the real reality: uniforms symbolize the oppression of capitalism!
The misfortune of Karl Marx is that he was a terrible economist, but as a sociologist, he was brilliant. However, he burdened sociology with an insidious "virus." He smuggled in the word "capitalism." His definition of it is broad enough to encompass (almost) any economy. As a result, every problem a sociologist encounters can be blamed on "capitalism." This often leads sociologists to think, "Hmm... I'm starting to see a pattern here... how about we just get rid of capitalism?"
