I don’t own a ps2 but I’ve found your channel so interesting and helpful, not only in series x retroarch game support I couldn’t stop watching the video. Thank you! This is really awesome, keep up the great work!
You are an absolute GOAT, I was able to finally get my ps2 emulator running literally one day before I had to go back to college. Now I can play my games while I'm there, this guide deserves more love!
As if the beard were not magnificent enough, you wore that glorious Pokemon hat. This video should come with a warning about overwhelming awesomeness. Thanks the updated tutorial; this is a much easier process than homebrewing a PS2!
thanks champ :D got my gran turismo on my steam deck with my own bios ..everything in the good way.. ofc it is easier to click an ddownload...but the journey to buy an external dvd, and do everything ..i also got my savedata so i can continue where i left everything back in 2005- :D
The new biosdrain simply did not work for me and there is nothing resolving it in the forums, until it gets fixed I'd recommend using the old biosdump that's used in this video, it'll say your bios is Japanese but it hasn't affected anything for me so far.
Thank you, man. But the DVD isn't mandatory if you have Free MC Boot. It usually includes uLauncherELF and do the same function. Worked in my PS2 SCPH-90001 perfectly. Thanks.
I'm on the part where I'm supposed to click the dump bios mass file through my PS2 console with the launchELF burn disc and it's not pulling up for me. Help me please!? :(
I'm getting an error when I insert the disk saying- please insert a ps or ps2 format disk I'm using CD-R I thought the software description said CD-R would work??
Hey there. I have a USB sd card reader (no san disk usb). Do I use a tf card or sd card to copy the DUMPBIOS-MASS.ELF file onto? Those are the options my card reader has. Thanks in advance
Anyone here have any success getting past an issue with the USB not being recognized during the dumping process? *EDIT* For those with a similar issue, I fixed my problem by using the latest 2.1.1 build of biosdrain. I also reformated the USB and set the size to 64kb instead of the 16kb that it sets itself, it all seemed to work now, it also loads up fine and works on PCSX2. So hope that helps! :)
so im a newbie to the emulator scene but i am a fan of it. i wanna get the bios off my ps2 and i have a usb drive and it says the filesystem is fat32 does that mean this is the correct usb? its larger than 32 gb lmk your thoughts gonna get the dvd-r soon.
I have a question maybe someone can answer. I ordered DVD-Rs from Amazon and they sent me CD-Rs... I only just realized now as I sat down to work on this project. Do CD-Rs have enough storage for this usage?
if i dump my ps2 bios files does that mean i can still play ps2 games on my ps2 (copying bios) or does that mean my ps2 wont be able to play ps2 games anymore (transferring bios i guess)
Hey, I figured out my last thing I asked but, I got 1 more thing. In some on my games, the controls on my Xbox controller (like aiming in shooting games, or selecting game modes!) are inverted, is there any way to fix that?
The dumping program is usable on both, just the exploit method used is for slims. If you have a FMCB/fhdb system you can follow along from within launchElf and achieve the same outcome
Please I hope this video stays up. PS2 Bios are non EXISTENT! And I'm not risking downloading ones with viruses on them either. :( We got a PS2 Slim so I want to back up the BIOS and play games on PCSx2 like Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix mods, etc. Thank you. :3
Thank you good sir, this has been most helpful. My PS2 is almost dead, quite literally about to bite the dust. However I am confused, I have read articles recently that say even if we own the games and bios we do not have the right legally to copy those even for personal use- and yet others say it is a grey area. I want to do whats right but find it confusing when different articles say different things. I always thought that if I owned a PS2 and a game I could download it- then I realized i was wrong and breaking copyright, so I and changed my ways so just last night I dumped the BIOS from my PS2 into PS2X and only play games that I ripped using my DVD/PC drive and my PS2 disks, but now I find out that may be illegal too?! any help is welcome. thanks.
It's a grey area under fair use as backing up your own game stuff has never been challenged in court. The legal precedent that is looked to as an example is music.
I'm able to run FreeDVDBoot, but the new biosdrain.elf linked by the official website says it can't find the usb drive (even though it's running on it). Has anyone else encountered this issue?
just a quick question, I use mGBA because it can run GBC games, today i tried to play GBC game and it loaded up but my keyboard doesn't work like it does with all the other emulators. if you can't answer i'll just get another core.

@@ArchadesGames It's on my "To Do" list. I'm looking at N64 and GBC Everdrives right now. So much game dumping to do, but so little time to do it in.
Right
I’m not sure why, but the DVD-R wasn’t working for me, but I tried it with a DVD+R anyways and it worked! thanks for the video!
As long as it works!
Just did this today, worked perfectly, except my bios dump did take about 5-8 mins. I was starting to worry, hehe. All is great 👍great vid!
Thank you Ryan for the support :)
at 4:06... the file to download isnt looking like that on your video, it has 3 videos attached instead ....Can you re-make a video for this 2023?

I'm sorry for the obnoxious question, what If the ps2 that BIOS I want to dump is modded, would the BIOS is still retrievable?
While you're at it, can you copy regular save game files on a PS2 memory card?
Thank you very much
Thanks for watching!
So I won’t be able to play ps2 games at all on my Xbox without doing all this?
does this work with SCPH-9000x models such as the 90004?
They said all slims work in the description of free DVD boot so you can give it a shot
@@ArchadesGames aight thanks
I have a 9000 ps2 with matrix chip and i areally have a mc with opl and efl, can i dump using it to dump without fmcb?
You just need a way to launch the elf file so yeah you would be fine.
will dvd+rw work for this ? i cannot locate my set of minus R disks i had bought last year
+R or +RW typically don't work
I don’t have a PC with a DVD player but I have a slim would it work with a original ps2 method
You can use any exploit method desired. This is just easiest for a slim.
@@ArchadesGames ok thank you

@@ArchadesGames it worked dude! Thank you so much! Subscribed!
I have the bios on my computer but I'm confused where you got the games from. How do get the games?
You dump them from your discs
so im a newbie to the emulator scene but i am a fan of it. i wanna get the bios off my ps2 and i have a usb drive and it says the filesystem is fat32 does that mean this is the correct usb? its larger than 32 gb lmk your thoughts gonna get the dvd-r soon.
It's the correct filesystem but the PS2 can be picky so you won't know till you use it in launchelf.
I have a question maybe someone can answer. I ordered DVD-Rs from Amazon and they sent me CD-Rs... I only just realized now as I sat down to work on this project. Do CD-Rs have enough storage for this usage?
It has to be a DVD

@@ArchadesGames Got the right disks and aetherxs2 is up and running on my tab s7! Thanks for your guide, it was super helpful and easy to understand
Nice!
Github updated their assets. It now says biosdumpelf should it still work?
Yeah
i would like to do this but I'm concerned if the links are safe
hello, do you know how i can dump the european bios version? dumpbios-mass gives me a japanese one
It dumps the BIOS found on the system and PS2 Emulation is region free so it doesn't matter if it shows up as Japanese which many slim BIOS files do.
if i dump my ps2 bios files does that mean i can still play ps2 games on my ps2 (copying bios) or does that mean my ps2 wont be able to play ps2 games anymore (transferring bios i guess)

Change the controls
Can't you just dump your games via retroarch and still play them that way or do I just have to use imgburn ?
Retroarch can only dump CD games. And it doesn't give you a BIOS which is the point of this video
@@ArchadesGames I ment CD games. Thanks btw
For the USB. How much memory is necessary to use for the bios dump?
Like 5 megabytes
They removed the Tools download from PCSX2. Direct links do not work either.
github.com/PCSX2/tools/releases/download/bios-dumper%2Fv2/PS2dumperV2_bin.7z
out of curiosity, why aren't the bios files available online?
It is, but its considered illegal to obtain it that way.
Does this still work for ps2 fat? Or only the slim model?
This is specifically for slims
@ArchadesGames Thanks. I wasn't sure if this was specific to slims or they were just used in this demo to showcase the "improvements in recent years."
The dumping program is usable on both, just the exploit method used is for slims. If you have a FMCB/fhdb system you can follow along from within launchElf and achieve the same outcome
