    Jeff, great video, thanks.
    1. what size wrench are you using for the hydr.stop?
    2. do you find the air chamber length, from top of the tube, after you 'forced all the oil into the system'?
    3. do you hold the hydr. stop or piston to remove the screw cap?

    Hi Jeff thank you for your videos. You do a great job. I have a small problem, and I am hoping you can shade some light on what I have done wrong. I have a 2020 1290 Super Adventure R. When I was pouring out the oil on the fork tube, right tube with rebound adjuster, and a small spring, and plastic needle, or valve came out. It dose show up in any parts list, and can not get the dealer to tell me anything. I put it back in the way I think it should go, but not sure what is correct. The bike rides fine, but my adjuster wont stop turning. I stop when i hit 60 clicks. I don't know what is wrong. I changes the springs is the only change I did. Have you seen the two parts I am talking about? Thanks for any help.

    • @slaverace1
      @slaverace1  Рік тому

      Hello:
      The spring goes in first then the needle and the long small diameter aluminum tube. The clicker keeps turning because you have the parts in the wrong order and the cap is not bottomed onto the spindle. The clicker adjustment knob is attached to a brass (sometimes plastic) piece the pushes on the tube. That brass piece has come out of the cap and needs reinstalled.

    I have read in your comments below that a KTM 125 09 is 120mm from the top is that was same for 2004? I do believe the 98 to 2007 models all sheared the same forks so should all be the same spec.

      It's ok to have the clicker set to full soft before installing but not necessary. One fast and one slow is not correct. Dive in and fix it.

    Is it normal for a set of these forks to have different preload spacers between fork legs? The right fork only had one thick preload spacer, while the left had a thick and thin preload spacer. I am assuming that this is to compensate for the length of the springs but I am unsure. I also noticed that my rebound rod in the one fork was not returning and its stuck in the low position. I am guessing the rebound valve is stuck? Any insight would be appreciated.

    • @slaverace1
      @slaverace1  5 років тому +1

      Springs are often slightly different lengths so they compensate with the spacers.
      The rebound needle needs removed, cleaned and greased. It will be covered with black crud.

    • @SuperChuckRaney
      @SuperChuckRaney 10 років тому +1

      It is whichever rides the best. No "single stock spec" will work for everyone.
      The spec in the manual is there because there HAS to be a starting point spec for those of us that are not experts in suspension.
      Amazingly, it is the same spec for every bike made. Learn something from that statement, even tho it is not 100% technically correct.
      The amount of oil isn't a valving thing, it is directly tied to your spring rate.
      100mm to 120mm is 4 inches DOWN to 4 3/4 inches Down. 5 mm Makes a big difference.

    • @slaverace1
      @slaverace1  2 роки тому

      Stock is 100mm. The range is 80mm-130mm. If you installed HD springs you will need to lower the height to compensate for the larger wire diameter which displaces more fluid.

  • @HusaCreature
    @HusaCreature 12 років тому

    2 questions -
    1. Where is the oil level measured from? I assumed it was from the top of the outside tube but was told you measure from the inside tube.
    2. My cap bottoms against the 22mm double-flanged nut, not the threaded rod. What's going on?

    • @rynoturner1973
      @rynoturner1973 5 років тому

      The oil level is measured with the fork tube fully compressed and from the top edge of the outside or upper tube mate. This can be seen by when he inserts the oil suction tool and the block sits on top of the fork tube.

    22mm from the top as well?
    I'm confused because User Manual says 620 ml or 20.96 fl. oz. but the Fork Service manual shows to suck out oil but doesn't specify the value.

    • @prawny12009
      @prawny12009 5 років тому

      120mm from the edge of the fork slider tube.
      I use the damper rod like a dip stick on a car, the rod sits pretty much flush with the top of the slider when both are compressed so I measure from the end and mark it at the height I want.
      Then i slowly fill the fork making sure to pump the air out, once the oil reaches my mark and no more bubbles come out I know that the level is correct.

    • @prawny12009
      @prawny12009 5 років тому

      My 04 takes approx 590-600ml per leg when dry, the reason you set these by height and not volume is because it is not guaranteed that all the old oil comes out by pumping the forks.

    I dont think you should encourage people that dont have much experience with the insides of these particular forks to grab the cartridge tube with a pair of special pliers especially when in a later vid in 2015 about replacing fork springs in the same kind of fork you simply tighten buy hand as recommended in the wp manual .Thanks Jeff i stuffed the thread on my fork cartridge with my special pliers due to it being incredibly soft aluminium following your recommendation .I suspect you were doing the same which is why you no longer use this method .amend the vid please to prevent someone else from doing the same .
