It’s people like those in the comments who bash Mexican Americans for not knowing perfect Spanish that makes me not want to speak Spanish! It’s not that I’m putting an excuse not to speak it, because I do, but it’s those who bash their own nationality for not speaking it well. My parents were born in Mexico and they came to the US to start their family. I grew up knowing Spanish but my profession requires that I speak English on a daily basis which is why my Spanish isn’t perfect. I also see my colleagues more than my own family, which again supports why some Mexican-Americans shouldn’t be judged for not speaking Spanish well.
Thank you!!!! I’m not the best when it comes to speaking Spanish and I hate how other Mexicans would say stuff “like why doesn’t this girl speak Spanish? Is she white? “Oh she’s probably mixed cause her skin is lighter”, and I also noticed it’s always the ones who were born in Mexico that judge us the most! They think that we act better then them or have better lives because we are Mexican American citizens. It’s not our faults, so we shouldn’t be treated badly.
I'm Mexican American and went to school in Mexico so i struggled so much speaking either or. Now that I'm a mom I'm judged because my kids don't speak fluently and it bothers me because we are in the U.S I'm proud of both cultures but i wanted my kids to speak English first then Spanish after.
@@Esmeraldacevedo you should teach them Spanish first, when they are young. They’re going to learn English either way at school. My parents only spoke to me in Spanish and I learned English through school and friends. Now I speak both perfectly :)

And I respect those who have opinions that Mexican Americans should speak Spanish, but even in school you’re taught to understand the language of English to be successful in this country. If you’re bilingual it’s a huge plus and a great advantage, but when you go off to college you’re not going to get very far if you don’t know English very well. I’ve gotten very far in life knowing English and Spanish, yet my Spanish isn’t perfect. So again there’s no need to bash those who can’t speak it perfectly!

Yeah u were born in the USA, but you are singing in Spanish n working in the Hispanic market so it's necessary for them to learn Spanish , look at Selena Quintanilla she didn't speak Spanish but she put so much effort to learn the language n end up speaking Spanish very well . No hay excusa, si vas a cantar en español y la mayoria de tu publico es hispano pues por lo menos aprende español y procura mejorarlo, otro gran ejemplo es Laura Pausini, habla muy bien el español. Esto no se trata de quien es menos o mas latina, es de mostrar aprecio al publico que compra tus discos.

steph Cano right lol.... I'm with you on this one. I'm also born in the USA and know perfect Spanish. I might not write it perfect but can read it. and that's that I use English more than Spanish with my kids, siblings, and everyone around. it's just stupid excuses some people make.

A mis hijos les inculcó también que aprendan bien los dos idiomas para que tomen ventaja de las oportunidades que a nosotros los bilingües se nos presentan en este país USA cuál es mi país natal pero siempre llevo muy presente mis raíces originarias que son las de mis padres.
