Been following the UKR situation on alternative media closely since it commenced. A wide range of sources from many different geographies. I’m not hearing anything suggesting a wider escalation is imminent. Consensus seems to be that NATO, Western Governments and Western MMM all realizing the kinetic and financial/sanctions war is lost. Diehards on X might disagree. US Needs to avoid a rout/UKR military collapse before the US election. Beyond that, some kind of grinding forever war, perhaps with a Government in exile, may be the end game. Very hard to judge since too many variables. Much depends on Europe sentiment, but (excluding Starmer) the war rhetoric across European capitals seems to be calming down. Germany finally realizing the economic damage the loss of cheap Russian gas is causing. Obviously Israel has pushed UKR calamity conveniently off the headlines. I am cautious about anyone divining the tea leaves of the UKR mess with certainty. Maybe you missed the point that Russia did proposed this herself on the condition that Ukraine stays out of NATO, not necessarily EU. Ukraine agreed. The ones who did not wanted this were the Westerners, and sent Boris to shut off the deal. We do not know all the background, this was 2022, summer, but we have the testaments of neutral diplomats that participated in the negotiations. And the Russians have repeatedly made space or even hinted that they were still open to some kind of negotiating settlement up until the point the were subject to repeated terrorists attacks on civilians on their soil. Why should Russia capitulate when she clearly has command of the pace of the war and her conditions are dismissed beforehand?

It’s an older style English use of language. An example to illustrate would be to say “Her daughter was lost to her” meaning that the mother had suffered a loss (e.g. the daughter was dead or alienated). So, Simon’s meaning is that NATO has lost. The war was lost to NATO as in not won by NATO.

I've heard that cash and junk silver are the currency in the disaster zones of the US. Small bills are at a premium, because of the need for change.
