i scoop the poop everyday, my cat has never hold its business bc the litter is dirty but i want to completely get rid of the smell of fresh poop. also those who say there is no smell at all if u clean it everyday might not have a very good sense of smell, no shade im the same way lol, but my mom had a very very sensitive nose and can detect the slightest bad smells. plus since i have bad sense of smell i want to b 100% sure there is no poop smell at all, not eve a little bit. plus the fan wont be able to get rid of all the odors if the litter is not well kept either.

If a fan blowing 30-80 cubic feet per minute is running 24-7 where it is "very cold," the cost in heated air must be considerable. Put another way, a 1,500 square foot home is about 12,000 cubic feet. Fifty cubic feet per minute is 72,000 cubic feet per day, or six times the volume of air in the home. Considerable indeed.

what he needs is an outside fresh air return and alot less cfm....it should only take a very small positive air movement to keep the odors from leaking into the house.

Nicely done. I've seen others use an in-line dryer hose fan, but it presents a problem of too much power and noise. The solution to that was to install a dimmer switch, but the computer fan is much simpler and bypasses the problem altogether.

Gotta hand it to the guy. Cutting a circle with a Dremel cutoff wheel is working with what you got. Get the kink out of the vent tube and it'll flow better.

This is on my "to do" list. I'm planning on running the vent through the wall and putting a motion detector with a timer attached to assure the dust is removed as it is kicked up. My current kitty man has always stood on he rim of the box while doing his business and then rakes up a storm...so he may end up toilet trained, but I'll always have cats.

Yessss, this!! I was trying to think of a way the fan could be set up to automatically come on when the cat leaves. I was thinking pressure switch and timer, but motion sensor is even better. Thanks!

@@RiffRaffMama. Great minds ... I was also thinking of a pressure switch but I'm finding those hard to find. My thought was to find some kind of pressure mat to place under the litter box but maybe I'm making too big a deal of this Probably just some kind of motion detector would work better. My problem is more one of dust than smell, though we have probably gone nose blind to cat smell over the years. One of my cats has some kind of breathing issue (the vet is not sure if it is asthma or what) so my vet has suggested a low dust low scent litter. Rather than get locked into some kind of product that will undoubtedly becoming impossible to buy later, I though if I vented the litter box it would deal with the dust well enough to keep the cat healthy.

@@mikethelma I think all litters are inherently dusty. The only non-dusty one I've ever come across is soil. When I've run out of litter in the past I've resorted to raiding the garden for a few scoops of soil. If it's a little damp (like just "cold damp", not wet) it doesn't create dust and I find my cats use it more than normal litters.

hi new to this channel, I have the same omega littler box, but can you uninstall the vent easily to use the litter boxes proper rolling functions still?

    • @benjaminlately
      @benjaminlately  3 роки тому +1

I stopped using this setup a couple of years ago, but I think the hose pushes in to the coupler. I don't remember having a problem . I think I just had enough slack to roll it in place. You do need to be careful about getting larger litter particles in the fan as it can cause the fan to seize.

The Dremmel blade "busted" because of the angle you were forcing it on. If you'd been a little more patient and not tried to push the blade through the plastic like it's a plow, it wouldn't have happened. A metal blade will cut plastic just fine if you're not twisting it like you were. And you had no access to a hole saw? That would have taken all of 5 seconds and been so fucking much neater.

@@benjaminlately I think his observation deserves a bit more respect. In fact, what you were doing could get you (or someone who tries it after watching you) hurt. Dremel's run at high speed and many of the blades break (shatter, actually) and parts can go flying everywhere. This mostly happens with the grinding wheels and you were probably using a metal one which is safer. Clearly a Dremel is not the tool for the job, but I applaud you using the tool you have rather than show a $20 project requiring $600 of "the right tools". ;-)

There are plastic-cutting bits for jig saws. That'd be a good option. No heated, melted plastic.

@@mikethelma The best solution for people without equipment is to take an old kitchen knife and heat the blade to red over your gas stove, and make the hole like butter. (of course do it with the windows open to ventilate)

Sorry but this is ridiculous. If the smell in a litter box is so bad you have to vent it outside I'm surprised the cat hasn't run away. Open litter boxes are best, and scooping a few times a day works like a charm. All this does is encourage people to not change the litter and the cats are the ones suffer when they start finding other places in the home to do their business. If you have even had to use a port-a-potty in the summer that is the same as a hooded and filthy litter box.

some people work 8 hours a day. some cats choose to shit during that 8 hour window. some of those cats have incredibly stinky poops no matter how good of quality food you buy them. some people don't like coming home to the super stinky smell of cat shit. there are always reasons. let's not jump to conclusions and focus on the most negative aspect yeah?

    • @KM-pg1ih

the smell of the fresh poop is bad especially for those in small apartments, sometimes its so hot or cold outside to open the windows for it to vent out ... its an easy fix and that way people wont need to buy harmful scented litter and powders. people who are lazy about it will be lazy with this hack ot without it.

This comment is completely wrong. Wife brought home a kitten, cleans the box 2 or 3x a day. it STINKS so bad my entire 1400 sq foot house STINKS. She has tried 3 or 4 different types of litter, to no avail. I also have a extremely great sense of smell. Anyways, a video like this is a great solution for folks like us!
