WTF is Church Pelota?!

Played in Freixo, Portugal, this amazing game of handball sees a 3 on 3 scenario where you hit a kind of spongey baseball against the side of a church. It's as much skill as it is luck when the ball pings off the angles, cracks, columns and even the door. Supreme fun and part of a larger event - the CIJB European Championships. You serve by smashing the ball against the central column. It can then bounce once and has to go over the ledge. If your opponents can't get it back you win the point. First to 20.

What kind of ball are they playing with? It sounds pretty heavy.

If you skip to 4.40 you can see the ball. It's like baseball but not tightly wrapped so it feels a little spongey and doesn't bounce a great deal
