It's amazing how so many airlines tried to forsee their future and like Pan American, Trans World and Braniff here, they didn't see their own end coming.
I wonder if some people back then could have predicted many of the issues we face today and stopped them before they happened. This seriously makes me wonder.
That's a never ending dilemma. We always have and had to fight so many issues that we can't care about things that might become issues some day. Someone will show us the issues that have no time to wait right now. We don't stop hoping for a surprising solution helping us to get rid of future problems before they are urgent.

In the 70's and 80's were TV slots like "Tomorrow's World' and we were promised RAY GUNS and PERSONAL ROBOTS and FLYING CARS or JET PACKS. Futurism today is commercial, be it sci-fi or concepts, but it does still exist.
I can well remember reading and watching programs in the 50s about rocket cars and the like. None of it ever allows for new inventions that change anything like the transistor. I remember my father buying one of the first transistor radios and everyone ooohing and awwing over it.
In the early 1960's, the fanciful & often absurd concepts of using advancing technology must have seemed a likely reality, within 5-10 years. The quest seemed to be to design the gadgets, dwellings & landscape in the childish spirit of "Buck Rogers", with the idea that these things would certainly soon become everyday reality, & with no real consideration of practicality or cost. I guess the idea was to appeal to the ignorant; engineers were creating advanced (& real) aircraft & spacecraft (& many other things) at the time, using practical knowledge, but these advanced machines (along with Hollywood "B" science fiction movies) inspired the fanciful ideas & expectations of the public, at the time (such as the personal flying car). Still, this video was interesting & fun!
@@ACF1901 No, but the cupboard had a futuristic feature, which made it "better" & more desirable. Plus, it was effortlessly controlled by a cosmetic push button switch.
Also, imagine how much repair, component replacement & adjustment all of the push button activation & remote control appliances & furnishings would need, along with the cost. In reality, several machines with "advanced features" were unreliable, & when these features failed, often people would use a machine's manual features-just to make the make the machine work at all.
