My mom loved him. I remember she once said, "Tom Jones can sing anything." She was right. I suppose that was both a blessing and a curse.
On the studio version of this single the guitar solo was done by a session player named Ritchie Blackmore who went on to form Deep Purple then Rainbow.
The unusual thing about this was it was #1 in the UK. In 1965 it was groups, groups, groups. Beatles, Stones, Who, Kinks, Yardbirds, etc. etc. But the original Decca release had a superb band backing that superb voice. Who could resist 😄😄
I'm so glad my mom played this old school music in the car while growing up in the early 2000s. Sure I got sick of hearing much of it repeated often on her CDs but it has heavily impacted me when I grew up and opened myself up to just enjoying music period.
