  • Today we explore the very center of St. Petersburg, Russia, starting with the Russian Museum and Yusupov Palace on the Moika.
    Hey everyone, welcome to a new vlog. I had to take some pictures of the tourist sites for work, so I’ll bring you along with me. Today we are going to head over to the Russian Museum, also known as the Mikhailovsky Palace. The Russian Museum held its grand opening in 1898, in what used to be the residence of Grand Duke Michael Pavlovich. Now, it is the world’s largest museum dedicated to Russian art. Inside, one can find modern art as well as pieces that date back to the 10th century.
    Our second site to explore today is the Yusupov Palace on the Moika canal. The Yusupovs were an immensely wealthy noble family and the palace held over 40,000 artworks when it was taken over by the Soviets. But who were the Yusupovs? For that, we must go back to the 14th century, to a Tatar named Edigu. The last memorable moment of the Yusupovs was their involvement in the elimination of Rasputin in this very palace on the Moika.

    There are vlogs and vlogs and vlogs. And then there is yours -thought out, excellent videography, careful selection of music, just the right amount of historical narrative, focus on what you are trying to show us not on yourself. You present as one friend to another not as an academic. Integrating vlogs of this quality into your work life takes dedication and effort. Thank you.

      Thank you for your comment Richard, I appreciate it. I agree, I always thought it would be inappropriate to make myself the focus of vlogs like these, it is much more valuable to show the city and sites for people who want to travel here.

    Saint-Petersburg is an endless series of palaces, cathedrals and museums. Having them all on the city’s and federal budget balances must be costly. Billions of dollars, I suppose. Keeping this all in a good shape, maintaining buildings, taking care of art, paying to hundreds of staff, doing research on art and history for these museums. It can be as expensive as a budget of a small European country, like Luxembourg or Lichtenstein.

    • @RicardoJPosada
      @RicardoJPosada  2 роки тому +8

      That is true! However, most of the museums are not free, although the tickets are very cheap. They definitely operate at a loss, especially during covid. I'd also like to see how much it costs! Thank you for watching Erdem!

      Poverty in what? Every citizen has a health insurance policy by birthright, mandatory. On it you can do free tests, many free operations. Free ambulance call for everyone. The doctor comes home to the children if the child is ill, all this is free. Mothers are given maternity leave to take care of a child for 3 years while maintaining a place at work. As well as maternity capital in the amount of 8.5 thousand dollars upon the birth of a child. With this money in some regions you can buy a whole house with a hectare of land. You can get higher education and master's degree for free. I personally received it myself, studied on a budget 3 times in total. College, higher education and graduate school, didn't pay for anything.
      I want to emphasize that medicine is free for every citizen, unless, of course, the cost of medicines is exorbitant money in the amount of a million dollars or more.
      These are basic opportunities that are given to every person, regardless of his status. A person can live in a village, far from the capital, but at the same time he has the same opportunity as any resident of the capital to enter the best university in Russia and study there for free.
