this is nice! I don’t even know yet why I need this knowledge - but as I have already seen more than once for this hobbie - then, when needed, I will know what to do and, if anything, where to review again how to do it! thank you

Amazing video, the one I didn't know I needed! I'm crap at this and it now looks achievable. Famous last words?

Don't know how I missed this... But I am absolutely trying this out with my tyranids/alien hives, beastmen, and lizardmen models for One Page Rules. Thanks to you, my kids already think I'm some kind of magical painter... This is going to blow their minds 😂😁

I'm about to start painting Ice Warrior Riders and was thinking about making them tigers. This video was perfectly timed! Thank you!

This is the PERFECT video tutorial find for me today 😀
One of my many, many, side projects is painting up animals as the creatures from D&D games, and I recently found a whole load of pretty large scale animals at dirt cheap prices in my local discount shop, and bought the entire rack full for less than €10, giving me almost 70 usable minis from the collection.
I now have 20 tigers that I want to paint as the Jade Tiger from a D&D page of characters I always seem to open the books at, and seeing how you make painting their stripes look so easy to attain has gotten me raring to go and start painting them 😃
Thank you so much for doing this tutorial, as now I can really get stuck into an evening or two of painting what I've always wanted to add to my collection now.
PLEASE bring more videos like this out, as, even after over 50 years in this wonderful hobby, I'm still learning and evolving my painting skills along with every other aspect of the pastime I love.

I tried my first attempt at tiger stripes and leopard spots about 4 hours before this video was announced. I think I'll watch it fully before I have another bash 😅

I really appreciate this because it gave me the thought of using this pattern on non tiger type models and thats something i hadnt considered before. Will bring some creativity and uniqueness to some of my models

Long term viewer, first time commenter! Got a question for you Byron - you seem to buck the trend by not using a wet palette and I was wondering why that was? Love all your videos by the way!

This clearly beats my method of starting from a black canvas and filling in the gaps with the main fur colour.
Jokes aside I was overthinking freehanding for a long time and never tried it but after a few (bad) attempts I am less 'scared' of it. Without practise I'll never advance and seeing your approach in brush control will help on the next tries.

If you only have access to paper to practice on, varnish it first. Any varnish will do, just spray a nice even coat and let it dry, then paint away

Would something like black acrylic ink work for this?
