YOASOBI is a J-Pop duo of Ayase, the composer of all their songs, and the vocalist, Ikura. They both have their solo career and formed this duo in 2019, turning novels into music. YOASOBI performs live with a band and these are their live-bandmates. They are one of the hottest J-Pop artists and this song in particular has won many many awards in Japan (e.g. 1st ranking in 2023 of Billboard Japan, MTV Japan, Tik Tok Japan, etc.), as well as some global accolades (e.g. Top search song of Google 2023 globally, 1st J-Pop artists in Top 100 Billboard Outside of US, etc.).
This song reached number 1 in the US.

Yoasobi is great! But this theme has a trick: It's the opening of an anime called Oshi no Ko and the lyrics are related to the story of that anime, so if you want to fully understand the meaning behind the lyrics, you should first watch episode 1 of Oshi no Ko (it's a 1 hour episode) and then you could react either to the Japanese song with lyrics OR the english version of this song that is sung by Yoasobi too and is a masterpiece!
I recommend Yuusha/Brave from Yoasobi too, it's the same with that song, it's the opening of an anime called Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, and the lyrics are related to the main plot, but it's as good as Idol.
This is such a grat song :3 To sum it up very briefly, it is about the mask idols usually have to put on for their fans, and the lies and fake lives they need to display in order to achieve (a simulated) perfection, because that's what is expected of them by the idol industry and by some fans. As said in another comment, it is linked to the Oshi no Ko anime (as the opening), which focuses on these themes as well.

This song was written as the opening for a show with the dark truths of the entertainment industry. It's called Oshi no Ko.
You should also check out the ending. Mephisto from Queen Bee would knock your socks off.

The biggest difference between Asian singers and everyone else is that they dont use auto-tune.Some groups use robotic voice but no one uses auto-tune in live concerts
I do not particuIary agree with yiou. What you said is generalization and it is not the best way to go about it (or anything at all). I have heard terrible asian singer and exelent non-asian singers wihtou autotune.

This song was the Opening song for the Anime "Oshi No Ko" and you need to hear the English version, because it's not a happy song. It's really depressing.
Godzilla is coming.
You should get deeper into this 'Oshi no Ko' soundtracks and the series itself. So you can understand more about the song, the animes is one of the best anime I'd say.
If you are wondering why is there a lot of emotion roller coaster in the song, then you should check out the anime... Its not just about an idol, but it's out of expectation...
