  • There are two clear leaders in the portable BBQ market out there and although they have some similarities in the given segment, there are some things you should really know before laying out your hard earned $$$. I've bought and owned both with my own money so here is my independent opinion. There is a clear winner as to which one is going to reside in my caravan. Hope you enjoy the vid?

You can take the pins out to detach the lid for storage in your van, and upgrade the Weber size. We have an old Weber Q 200 (and added a thermostat), current Q2000 has this. Hubby just drilled out the in holes for easier use - literally takes 10 secs to add/remove.
Much larger surface grill etc, and still fits in out camper side storage 👍

I made my Weber Baby Q fit into the boot using a grinder with cut off wheel and cut about 20mm off the feet. This reduced the height of it to fit into my boot locker (Jayco 22.68.1)

Great video. Caravan suitability clearly depends on the tunnel opening size. We bought the Weber Q2000 for a 'multi location' BBQ. It is only about 10mm to tall for our tunnel opening, bugger, but we tow with a ute with a lockable tub lid so it lives in there while on the road. When not on the road, it s big enough for us to use in our unit courtyard. Best for both worlds. Different strokes for different folks. :)

When we take it camping use it as an oven, BBQ, grill, the works just great

i love my ziggy.... havent had an issue with it in 2.5 years, no fires ( helps if you clean your bbqs regularly ), has never had any flame outs, it fits in its bag in my tunnel boot... it get sets up on a table when camping. I have 2 flat half plates for mine along with the grill ( as in your vid ) and trivets for pots etc. Change your plates in the ziggy and you may find you wont have any hot spots. Good luck with learning to live with the ziggler and brown.

Weber Baby Q Premium fits perfectly in the slide out tool box on the drawbar of our Crusader Excalibur Serenity with probably 4-6 inches to spare! Works perfectly for us! Really horses for courses, Holden v Ford etc!

I had the same problem with my weber Q so i bought a ziggy as well so it fits in the tunnel booth. Weber was slow to cook for me and ziggy is a little bit better especially with lid up most of the times. Other than that, same conclusion to your dilema :) My weber lives in the patio and ziggy in the van. Thanks for the vid ;)

Sorry I can’t agree, we have used both in our Caravan on our last two 6 Month Aust trips, I found the Ziggy to be better, larger jet holes means it heats up a lot quicker and I have had no problem with ‘heat spots’. Only down side with the Ziggy is it is much harder to clean under the Lid as it (as you’ve shown) slides under the main body, having said the we have sold our Webber and we are keeping the Ziggy. Side Note: Purchased the bigger two burner Ziggy for home and it has the more conventional lift up lid, so easy to clean.

Goodness I don’t know where you were to have the flame go out but mine on my Ziggy has never gone out. I have both and prefer the Ziggy to be honest. I think the Webber is an awesome bbq but the Ziggy wins hands down for me as I can use it as a gas stove, oven and grill. No problem fitting the food on lol. Love that the Ziggy is more flat for storage too. I personally don’t think there is much in it really just personal preference

Great video. Must admit I have found different results. Also the q doesn't cook well with the lid open or a full grid but the ziggy does. If you dail the temp/flame of the ziggy back to rhe same as the webber the flare ups and hot spots disappear.

    • @Snook_

webber isnt designed to cook with the lid open thats webber 101 in every q and a ever. its designed to work like an oven and distribute heat evenly and smoke your food out nicely. Thats why it doesnt get hot spots

Do not buy a Weber baby Q 1200 simply because they are not legal to use if you have a caravan and wish to connect to your bayonet gas connector because they do not have the Flame Fail Safety Device which is fitted to the Ziggy. When you ask Weber all you get is the run around. I spoke with one lady who works for Weber and she told me it was my caravans defect.

Just a thought for a drip tray for the Ziggy (I don't own one, just from what I see on your vid) - you could possibly use a foil tray designed for stove-tops. They are ring shaped with a gap in the centre.

  • @iant8842

If you get tired of the Ziggy try this - remove the grill from the Q - take off the lid (2 pins) turn the lid upside down and put it in the Q which will reduce the height (probably enough to fit in your tunnel boot) - grill plate you could try under the Q on the slide or find a hole for it to fit in :-)

I was so upset when I was waiting for my caravan and I started to buy items to take with me on trips and looked at the Weber Mini Q and though it was too small so I got the 2000 then 12 months later when the van arrived I find out that the Weber 2000 was about 5cm too long on the fridge slide tool box on the drawbar and about 3cm too tall for the tunnel boot 😫

Have also heard the same issues of flare ups and flame going out on the Ziggy. It's easy to take the lid off the Weber too. You may have storage issues putting the lid somewhere, but taking it off is not hard. We would not be without our Weber Q.

Both are overpriced and garbage in my opinion. I bought a little gas barbie that has the same shape and size as the Weber Q but is a far superior product in that it has 2 independent controls for 2 burners as well as 2 different types of griddle inside.
It also has detachable BBQ side tables that push into the handles on either side as a place to put condiments or a plate for the meat or whatever you want.
But the biggest difference was the fact that I paid half the price for mine than what the other 2 cost.
Where did I buy it you may ask? ALDI...! The best little portable BBQ on the market by far.
