    Man, there used to be a Herschel Space Telescope, perhaps that's the one he tried to mention at the end. It had been designated so already in 2000 to honour Herschel's discovery of the infrared light. It was in operation between 2009 and 2013.

    the JWST drawing is interesting. It was planned with a bigger mirror and to to launch 10 years earlier than it actually did.
    Webb raun Nasa in the early years helped to make it what it is. So some credit is ok. But a science instrument should be named after a scientist. And Herschel would be a rather worthy candidate.

    Good discussion on one of the key founders of modern astronomi. I think there Are plenty of great insights here, not the least of which his playful mind leads him to discover infrarød and ultrafiolett lighter... Something that NASA apparatnik that got that telescope names after hun likely never was remotely close to...

      He has some nice craters named after him. Including the Death Star one on Mimas. That's enough. After all, he wasn't a roman god and neither was George.

    I think Herschel`s thoughts about the sun were closer to reality than what is cosidered scientific today.
    That the sun`s fusion start at it`s core - That is just ludicrous

    • @kainajones9393
      @kainajones9393 2 роки тому

      Herschel thought the Sun was a cool dark solid globe clothed in luxuriant vegatation."
      This was based only on his beliefs, with NO credible evidence for any of it. Question... where were you educated?
