- In a recent conversation, Tom Cram told me that he thought the Brute was his best fuzz design. I'm not going to disagree. For more content like this, be sure to subscribe here: rb.gy/gje0iq

The Brute is a synthesis of everything Tom learned while experimenting on the Custom Artefact, Blush, and Demhe fuzzes; refined into a vintage-voiced tonal powerhouse.
The Brute features Silicon BC108B transistors, a Nanolog N2, mixed with Russian 1N34A Ge diodes, and modern Si diodes on the Texture Toggle. A handy low-cut on the Focus Toggle, entirely re-voiced Detail and Bias controls, green LED, and a top that glitters like the Hulk at a discotheque. The Brute is a tough, muscular, and darker fuzz than the Black, but still bright enough to stand out.
For the first time while filming a demo, I found myself completely speechless. Well done, Tom.

During your intro, I started to wonder what your favorite fuzz you ever demoed was. About five minutes into this, I think I got my answer.
it is definitely up there!
Blurs the line of a crunchy distortion and a fuzz, in a really good way. The humbuckers sounds sold me.
Demos In The Dark+Fuzz+Telecaster= "Yep. I'm watching that one."
hahaha! 🙏
Sweet pedal! Sweet demo! I bought their Summer Cyan limited edition which is based on the 'Black' fuzz, if I'm not mistaken. Good stuff.
i’ve tried the black, but don’t own one. that’s a snazzy pedal for sure!
Yessir. That thing sounds killer.
get in a room with it... jaw dropping.
Great tones throughout. Nice pedal / great intro track, had a heavy Talking Heads feel to it 😎
dude. i watched it this morning after uploading last night and thought, "oh crap, that's the bass line from 'crosseyed and painless'!" hahaha
Demos In The Dark Such a great song. I couldn’t place it exactly but your track had that feel. Great stuff.
Rushes out to buy one... Remembers the tone comes from Ryan's fingers... Might still get one anyway, for how good it sounded with the Les Paul.
dude, follow your first instinct. you’ll love this thing!
killer fuzz, imo/ime!
dude. blew me away!
sounds like a sick and clear big muff, and i like how you highlighted the adaptability, which is almost always an oxymoron with fuzz.
yeah, that's the thing, right? you get those muff qualities, but with mids, cleans up with guitar volume, and sounds incredible at low gain settings. it's wild!
What can I say I want one. Nice vid thanks. God bless n rock on.
It does sound gorgeous in all of the settings!
i tried to make it sound bad. i really did. not possible.
Crunchy, crunchy goodness!
you know it!!
He's the best. I'm certainly not an aficionado when it comes to fuzz pedals, but I love the DoD Carcosa because it sounds great to me and it was super versatile. I've been watching the Spiral pedals since he ventured off on his own. I'm sold on this one for sure. Thank you as always Ryan!
what was spiral before it was spiral? rose or something? i don't remember. yeah man, i try to keep from getting too excited about any one thing publicly, but i am pretty enamored with this pedal!
@@DemosInTheDark Yes, Rose. He had to change the name. I get a little overwhelmed with the amount of fuzz pedal, with each having it's own unique teeny little tonal niche. I learned guitar and played in bands in the 80s. For my taste, fuzz just didn't factor in. I'm late to the party. 🤷♂️ Even at that, I struggle with the want/need aspect. Especially if its just going to collect dust. They may sound fantastic, but, am I really going to use it? That's why I dig the Carcosa. Not boutique, just serves my needs perfectly
you are definitely getting granular when you start getting into the weeds with fuzzes.it's kind of it's own nerdery within a nerdery. but that's every hobby. some folks can play a fully satisfying 18 holes with the clubs they've had since college and some can't!
@@DemosInTheDark Yessir, that is a fact. Thank you for what you do! Diggin the nerdery, I'm proud to be one 🤓
Bought one. Ridiculously cool pedal!
I traded a Vintage RAT for a DOD Carcosa Fuzz, because I loved the range of tones, and sound. I often wondered what a tweaked boutique version might sound like? This sounds like it has all the MOJO, and then some!
I do like darker “Vintage” Fuzz tones, combined with the percussive punch, and Bias squish that this pedal gets.
What’s the noise floor like? The Carcosa is noisy (…all Fuzzes are to a certain extent). I generally play Single coils.
I love it! One of the coolest vintage-y fuzzes I've heard
Ooh. Want. 🤘💥
make it so!
Will it sound good with a Strat? Love how meaty it sounds - maybe won’t sound as meaty with a strat
i use it with a strat all the time. in fact, if you go check my review of the american pro ii strat, i use the brute as my fuzz example.
