@ yes! FSD Version 12 from early 2024 was the first step change that wowed people in terms of human-like behavior. Then just 1-2 weeks ago FSD 13 took things to a crazy different level, also in terms of reliability. At that speed of improvement, fully unsupervised driving sometime in 2025 seems very realistic.
I think 15:24 was a bit of a mistake. Stopping for the pedestrian initially was fine, then there was some awkward negotiation, but at 15:29 the pedestrian started crossing and the car should have stopped immediately, but instead it appears to try to be “smooth” and keeps rolling towards him for another couple of seconds. It’s as if the model is so heavily penalised for rapid stop/go indecision, in order to make it better at committing, but that resulted in suboptimal behaviour here, as it should have rapidly changed its mind on going.
Awesome video, I lived in Manhattan for 15 years and know firsthand how crazy the driving is, even crazier now with the dedicated bike lanes and protected left turn lanes. The triple traffic light with bike light, left arrow and through traffic blew my mind. $TSLA go!
Thanks for the video. That was insanely good. When I was younger I visited NYC and drove in Manhattan. I found it extremely nerve racking. Paying attention to all the cars and taxis, pedestrians, bicycles, lights, construction etc was exhausting. To keep your sanity FSD is essential for NYC.
Wow excellent drive. Seen it struggle in NYC so much in that past. Nailed it and it is only going to get better. NYC cab drivers must be getting worried.
Best video I've seen so far. I've already forwarded this to a few of my doubting friends. I'm thoroughly impressed with V13.2.1 Your video went through all the challenges that make people believe this is for real! Thanks for the video!
The bikes that don't follow traffic rules, pedestrians crossing on a green light, the bikes weaving across lanes,...FSD handled it better than a human. Fantastic drive 👍🏾
Watching this across the pond in the UK, I have watched a lot of you tube testers doing fsd drives and think you are all brilliant. This is the first watch from your channel and that was an amazing drive the car did a superb job in some amazingly difficult situations. So jealous watching this and can only hope some people in authority in this country get to see how good and safe fsd is getting and hopefully one day I will get to experience it. Thanks for all you are doing, keep up the great work ❤
dude thank you so much for posting this. I was nervous at least 3-4 times just watching this video - and FSD 13 just CRUSHED it every single time no matter what got thrown at it. FSD even gave way for an awful parallel parker. OMG OMG OMG
FSD can see it could NOT go past or around the car which is not moving. So it gave itself enough space to go around the car when the left lane becomes available to make the move. In the mean time, the car infront proceeded to park and clear the lane allowing FSD to proceed straight through.
20:15 - is absolutely insane. Based on the rate of improvement we've seen, it's safe to say that they have solved autonomy. Shorting Tesla is financial suicide.
We recently took a road trip in our Tesla with version 13.2.1. It's tough to explain how the little improvements come together to make it feel almost magical. We’ve spent a lot of time in Manhattan and often joke about how we really don’t want to drive there. Thanks for sharing this video! The performance of v13.2.1 is amazing, and this video shows off how smoothly it handles different challenges. Manhattan has more obstacles in just a few blocks than we faced on our whole trip. This video really highlights how efficient this system is.
The jump in improvement in v13 makes me question whether Tesla is secretly using teleoperators (like we've seen with optimus). As an outside observer, this version appears to drive identically to humans - something I've not seen (consistently) in previous versions. As a TSLA share holder I want to believe but this version is an almost unbelievable improvement across all areas AND it's added lots of new features, such as park and unpark.
Man, really good point. I wonder if there is some on their game hacker who has FSD and can do an internet traffic analysis to rule it out. Because the jump in these recent versions of 13 have been kind of crazy. If this is truly all autonomous... just now words lol, so fucking impressive
Of course it’s not teleoperated. It would be very hard to make that work as smoothly as v13 drives (I have it, BTW). 4x data scaling, 5x training compute scaling, 2x reduction in latency. These make a huge difference and just provide proof that this problem is solved with massive amounts of data.
I hope you're right. But we do know that Tesla started hiring Teleoperators for "Tesla Bot and Robotaxi" weeks ago. If Robotaxi isn't expected until 2026 at the earliest what are these new hires doing on a daily basis right now? It's not the biggest stretch to imagine that they might be testing it right now on this release of FSD. If so I'd like to hope that Tesla would be transparent on this on the FSD release notes.
Tesla will HAVE TO ask permission from the car owner, who is LEGALLY responsible for any accident that might occur, to get any remote control operation. Besides, imagin the possible conflicting decions that may exist between the teleoperator and the person in the driver's seat should there be a condition when human intervention is necessary. No, there cannot be any teleoperator. I dare say, FSD 13.2 is just that damn good! In fact, better than 99% human drivers! Period.
Nice thanks for the video! This has been my dream. Tell my car where I want to go and just sit back and use my phone or laptop or sleep while it drives. We’re almost there and now I’ve got to buy a Tesla.
Having drove in NY a few times I know how nerve-racking it can be, similar to driving in D.C., and it's doing it very well. Will be interesting to see when it finally tackles snow/ice driving which is the ultimate test IMO.
That left turn lane with the special green for bikes only was super impressive. How did it know that? I definitely would have screwed that up myself. Tesla actually did it, we're just a few more polishes releases for true e2e unsupervised FSD. Holy shit!
Great Video! I'm wondering if you can change the center screen to light mode so we can see the car's visualizations as its driving? Thanks for the video!
For added visual, please put a little light shining on the steering wheel and slide your seat enough back that people can see that you are not moving the steering wheel,
Drivers wishing to back into a spot need to indicate their actions! Indicate before stopping. Stop. determine if car behind has stopped with space or wait until they move around. Put the car in reverse, indicator still on. Most courteous drivers will allow this. Bicyclist are the exception! (they have their own rules!)
Could use a little help here! So only teslas with hardware 4 can get FSD 13.x.x?? Right? Meaning if I want this incredible FSD I need a Tesla from mid 2023 and on?? Thanks in advance!
AI is very hardware intensive. The new Nvida chips in the next 1-2 years will be very beneficial for Tesla. With the improvements I seen here, I truly believe the only thing limiting Tesla right now is computing power. I am shocked
20:21 - You can see that the lights for backing up of the other car didn't turn on so FSD didn't stop thinking it would backup. If just so happen to leave the space there.
15:29 the car clearly waited for the pedestrian to cross but he waved his hand giving you the the greenlight to go and then when you want to go, he proceeds to cross the same time. Did he want you to hit him?? That situation will confuse anybody
The bus lane becomes a turning lane a few feet up as you can see by the dotted line. I see all the cabs and drivers make this same move. No cop would ever pull you over for this
11:55 seems dangerous and I think needs more testing because what if peds just kept crossing while you were in the lane?! That is dangerous. Don't you need to wait for peds to keep it clear before you go.. otherwise oncoming traffic could just go straight through you..
It’s a weird behavior. Thing is I would do the same thing as do many NYC drivers. That guy decided to run out after the car committed and that’s what u gotta do lol
OMG -- I can't believe how far TESLA has taken AI in a very short time period. . That was a difficult drive for 99% of humans and FSD just nailed it. Huge implications regarding where AI will be in 50 years!
This also proves AI is real. Tesla got a mind of its own with FSD driving itself, handling NYC traffic in real life situations. There's no doubt it will exceed human drivers as it accumulates driver-miles.
Some of you say the scene where FSD "knew" the car infront wanted to parallel park or is a fluke. Not a fluke nor the case of FSD "knowing" the intention of the other driver.
