This is the proof of the faulting of the YT algorithm... Two years before the video appears in my suggestion list. How can the algorithm prioritice a whole lot of other uniteresting crap, instead of this genuine interesting video? Thumbs up. Well done! No crappy music, just a good explaining why he preferes to do it, the way he do.

Late to the party but what exquisite work!! Starting in on my second gun and going to embellish it with some carving. This is going to be exciting!

You do great work, I have built four 18th century rifles and didn't even attempt any carving until my third and by my fifth it sure did not come out near to your quality. Curly maple is beautiful, but oh the work needed to make a masterpiece .

You had mentioned about the original artisans that did the carving on the early guns and where they trained. Many were europeans that were trained by masters and were carving religious panels and statues for the churches. They brought their trade with them to America, in Pennsylvania many were Germans.

What size parting tool are you using to do your outlining?

Hi Josh, I don't use a parting tool, I use a small V chisel and a mallet to outline my carvings

Thanks for the reply. Sorry I guess what I meant was a V chisel which I’ve heard them called V-parting tools. Do you know what size in MM and degree your tool is. I’ve heard some builders say Pfiel 16/1 which has a 35 degree works well. This is the method of outlining I plan on doing rather than the stab in method.

@@TheIronRam Well put. It's for enjoyment as well. It is relaxing. It isn't about money. It is like rock climbing or building a cabin. It is not fun for everyone, but to those who enjoy it, it is the best thing in the world.
