      Well, technically, Robert’s bastards are illegitimate and come after Stannis and Renly in the order of succession, but whoever gave the order to kill them all decided to take no chance.

    • @alancarter41
      @alancarter41 14 днів тому

      Actually, they don't since Robert would have to have acknowledged them. Stannis has the only actual legitimate claim at this point. It really doesn't matter since we now have five people claiming to be King (or Queen) and this will only be settled by the sword.

    I absolutely love season two. So many interesting characters are thrown into the fold in this premiere!
    And so much has already changed for the characters we’ve followed since season one, so there’s so much that could happen for all these new players.

    It was cool of the Hound to back up Sansa’s “bad luck to kill someone on your birthday” thing (which probably isn’t a thing).

    Round of applause for King Stannis Baratheon 👏 accompanied by Davos Seaworth (who has the POV chapters in the books), and the Lady Melisandre, known in these parts as "the red woman", is a Red Priestess of the Lord of Light (aka R'hllor) which is a prominent god from Essos.
    She believes Stannis to be the Prince That Was Promised and is aiding him in achieving that prophecy to essentially save the world from darkness.
    But I like how Becca said Cersei was made of Fire and Ice lol mayhaps she is the PTWP 🤔

    Hey guys! Let's look at the murder of Robert's bastards a little more closely:
    - First of all, yes: the City Watch was sent to "clean shop". We don't know by whom, but the task was plenty clear.
    - The first child killed was the same one Ned Stark visited before being attacked by Jaime Lannister in the streets. Her name was Barra (a homage to her father, King Robert BARATHEON).
    - Gendry is presumably the oldest and he got away before the City Watch could get their hands on him.
    Now let's look more closely at how Ned Stark came to meet these two children:
    - Gendry -> someone told Ned that Jon Arryn had been visiting a certain armorer on the Street of Steel.
    - Barra -> the same someone told Ned that he would meet the last person Jon Arryn spoke to before falling ill.
    Do you remember who that person was? The same person has this interaction with Ned:
    Ned Stark asks: "What do you know about the King's bastards?"
    Answer: "He has more than you, for a start."
    So there is knowledge about Robert's bastards, although it is only hinted at from our perspective.
    If you remember who the person was, and you tie that to the events in this episode... you get a pretty clear indication of who has been talking with whom regarding the "kill list".
    Have you figured it out?

    • @MariaPetrescu
      @MariaPetrescu 12 днів тому

      @@ImmersiveReactions Ser Davos is the name of the person advising Stannis. Melisandre / The Red Lady / The Red Priestess is the other. Yeah, there's a lot to figure out about him.
      Remember what Renly said about him to Ned Stark: "He inspires no love or loyalty." - and you can see where he is coming from. Stannis is very rigid.
      Can't wait to see the next episodes!

    Stannis is “old school,” as you say. He’s not thick so much as stubborn and high on himself as a savior figure from the red witch’s religion. That makes him overconfident. As Ned said, he’s a proven military commander. One of if not the greatest living generals in Westeros.

  • @ccispahan7514
    @ccispahan7514 14 днів тому +2

    @38:19: who knew their identity and location? Same person who took Ned to them… who is whispering in Joffrey’s ear behind the curtains? The question to Cersei about Robert’s bastards was planted by someone else: Littlefinger. Varys could have known too, and even if it is never clearly explained, I’ve always assumed he was the one who exfiltrated Gendry before the Gold Cloaks went on a killing spree.

    “Robert was the true steel. Stannis is pure iron, black and hard and strong, yes, but brittle, the way iron gets. He'll break before he bends. And Renly, that one, he's copper, bright and shiny, pretty to look at but not worth all that much at the end of the day.” - quote from “someone” who isn't in the show.
    Stannis is a complicated character, for sure. Uncompromising, dogmatic, but understands honor differently from Ned. Sending ravens to all the lords of Westeros, what Stannis did, is what Ned should've done in the first place.
    I would disagree with Renly saying in s1 that Stannis inspires no loyalty, he does. But would agree that he most certainly doesn't inspire love. I think a lot of nobles in Westeros respect Stannis, I don't think anyone really wants him to be king (outside of devoted to him and fanatics), even tho he is true heir by laws of land. Also, burning aspects of Seven and embracing R'hllor (The Lord of Light) in the land where people mostly pray to the new gods is kind of hardcore.
    Anyway, s2e1 introduces Dolorous Edd (Eddison Tollet), that's much more important lmao. All those great insights about Craster's daughters, what happens when we die, a truly cheerful fella.

    So we now have five self-proclaimed Kings and a Queen. Who will play the Game best and win? To this point, Cersei plays the Game best, but she has a weak point: her anger and loss of control when challenged. Add in her terror as she understands Joffrey is a violent psychopath who cares only for himself. Robb has proven to be a good tactician, but can he take the next step and learn the Game. I think Stannis is too rigid and uncompromising to win the Game, and he also has the smallest number of followers. Renly has the largest army, but does he actually have a plan beyond Loris urging him to be King? Daenarys has no followers, just three small dragons and is lost in the wasteland. Mance Rayder is an unknown and far to the north.
    BTW, remember Jon Arryn had tracked down all of Robert's illegitimate children and possibly had made a list. Or perhaps Littlefinger, who knew of at least two of the children (Gendry and the baby) was the source.

    Good beginning to season 2, Cersei has learned the limits of her power, she can wield it with pretty much anyone except Joffrey (and Tywin) and he's turning out to be bat guano crazy, only Tyrion can sort of manipulate Joffrey to a degree, they do loathe each other. And I like Stannis, but I don't, it's like an equal amount of yes he has claim but no, he's really not the best king material, Robb Stark is the man who should be king.
