Far Out! What a Final. And Puskas the trainer of SMH, super! The NSL was special regardless what the FFA thinks. I recommend Joe Gorman's book, "The Death and Life of Australian Soccer " an excellent history.
Melbourne Croatia did deserve to win this game however because they didnt has produced the greatest memory in my life. May 5th 1991 will be etched in my heart until i die.
Like many others, that day and that game was THE most special day of my life. The crowd, the atmosphere from both sets of fans, the dominance of Melb Croatia throughout, only to be thwarted by Pala in the 88th...then the noise from Hellas Army! Absurd penalty shootout...I remember sitting on the ground high up in the eastern stand (couldn't bare to watch Davo "slot the winner"....then Silic...rest is history. Then 3k fans back to Middle Park for more crazy celebrations...unbelievable!!! I didn't at the time but I do feel sorry for Croatia fans when I re-watch this...and I've watched this over 300 times...HELLAS! HELLAS! HELLAS!
i like the A-league today as well but this was the real ethnic challenge and great memories ...especially this one but my fav game ever was MELITA vs PRESTON N.S.L cup in 1990 i think. when melita won 1-0 ...so many memories of this wonderful NSL locked in my memories.
@@chriskolovos6143 biggest Darby in Australian soccer for many many years and was always guaranteed a exciting game no matter were South Melbourne and Heidelberg where on the ladder.
South Melbourne won its second national championship, beating Melbourne Croatia on penalties after a tense 1-1 score line in normal time. A massive crowd of 23,318 gathered to watch probably the most enthralling national league grand final ever in May 1991.
@@Kriti98 Rubbish, South has been in Heidelbergs shadow for over a decade now even Oakleigh is a far superior club than South. South has had inferior crowds, results, financial situation and have been close to relegation whilst Heidelberg has won the threepeat and been one of the most successful clubs in league history. Never mind, South was a great club last century.
@@MegaasAlexandros do you ever shut up. Your club wasn’t even in the nsl in the late 90s when hellas was dominating. I’m sure you were at the gfs though cheering for south
@Aussie-Greek You havent got a serb club to follow because serbs are hopeless at football, so you come here to see how good you could be, jealousy and to cause trouble. Basically your both shit.

BRING BACK NSL!
We all want the NSL back !
Form a lobby group to lobby F.i
.f.a to re-estate the pre- U.S.A 94 rules.
I’m an olympic supporter & love our sister club but honestly they were blessed in that penalty shootout.

i played in the reserve / youth grade grand final for sydney olympic vs sth melbourne before this game and the atmosphere was electric
How the fuck did we lose this one
2020 samo hrvati 🇭🇷🇭🇷🇭🇷🇭🇷🇭🇷🇭🇷
atmosphere wise the best there has ever been in Australian football by a country mile, nsl or a league. you just had to be there
I was, with my girlfiend, nice to see this again!!
Soak up that atmosphere. The A League just can’t replicate it.
I Often wonder if the Socceroos had succeeded in eliminating Argentina in 1993 and Iran in 1997 maybe the NSL would be still around to this day?
would love to see a ffa cup tie with victory vs hellas
thats me with the big greek flag at the end....hellas forever
What a massive club South was - now you go to their ground and they barely have 200 people there.
Thats because a jew named frank lowy destroyed the ethnic name HELLAS.
Yet Heidelberg will forever be in our shadows.

Sorry guys as an olympic supporter hellas was blessed in the penalty shoot out.
@@MegaasAlexandros at least we were a massive club. In what period where Collingwood Warriors ever a big club?
irine the best rivalry was Heidelbegr UNITED vs South Melbourne swans and Heidelberg UNITED vs Preston.
Those were trully special days.
Swans ? 😄
Yeah they play at the old South Melbourne Swans ground and they play like swans, no fight and always scared of opposition.

The good old days, unfortunately wasn't alive during this match. Only have the stories from my father.
Where are the crowds now Mr A-League
The nsl pretty much had the same crowd as now
