My sister let me have her 2017 MBA (That was already 7 years ago!) when she upgraded to a 2020 MBP. It ran like 80% cpu usage on booting macOS 12. Now I run Arch on it and each core gets to like 5% usage each lol
My old 2570p runs Windows 10 perfectly fine. Mainly use it for car diagnostics but it's still a capable machine that boots in less than 10 seconds from pressing the button with Windows Fastboot disabled 😅
I use my Elitebook 8560p (updated with the 8570p motherboard) for 12 years, and this laptop is great that excep for playing some games, I don't feel the need for a new one. I think, it's certainly one of the most comfortable design made for laptop, with easy access to the motherboard for changing the ram, processor, wifi part or memory drive. Modern ones are so well thought since the design is the focus now. I think are slowly getting further from the peak of ergonomic design.

Linux works great; I use Arch Linux on a 2010 laptop, and it performs smoothly. 👌
