Saw them at the Dorking Halls. The best live gig ever.
Russel Hastings does such a good job leading the band. Even Weller complimented him and said he can't sing like that anymore.

As close as it will ever get to the sound of the original Jam. This singer does one hell of a job!!!

Bruce Foxton's bass playing was the key to the Jam sound back in the day.. Great to see himself and Rick rocking out all the years later.. The chap taking Wellers part is outstanding!.. Close your eyes and its almost 79 again.. Would nt it be great if Paul just done even one gig with the lads while they still have it

The Jam should never reform. Weller is about now. From The Jam is about our memories. It is as it should be. Russell does a brilliant job giving back our memories and I told him so when I met him in Liverpool a few years ago.

Get Real: This is the best Jam song, bar none. So wonderful to see Rick and Bruce playing it now.

Yes Steven Salemi, correct! Especially at 00:45 when the Bass player lays down that driving bassline that reminds me of the playing of a Norman Watt-Roy of Ian Dury and The Blockheads.
      Remember England and being English?

I recently saw a list of Weller's top ten songs and this wasn't even on it. I was like WTF!?!?
Not sure if it's this or In the City tbh. This is a far more nuanced song for sure...but the raw energy of In The City is great.... One thing is for sure...ALL Jam tracks are better than anything Weller has done since.

Damned what a great bass line. Weller gets the credit for being a great song writer, but without a bass player who can handle a line like that, the song wouldn't have worked. Foxton kicks ass.

Ryan Allen couldn’t agree more. Bruce Foxton is a superb bassist. And those aren’t easy bass lines to play. Love the Jam.

  • @stevesandford1437

That vocalist sounds UNCANNILY like Paul Weller here... Whatever your views on 'From The Jam' as a touring outfit, (and I say why-ever shouldn't they play if the demand is there?) Weller's VOICE, (as well as his playing...) was as intrinsic to that sound as Bruce's voice/playing and Rick's playing. The Only Way to replicate the sound, (and the passion, energy and emotion...) of the original is to provide as close a 'facsimile' as possible.
Purists and critics might object to this, yet how else was it to be done? (And one tends to think that, had the decision been taken to include a vocalist/player who DID NOT attempt to emulate or 'channel' Weller in performance, the same critics would have as vehemently objected, though for the opposite reason?)
My feeling is that this performer does an almost UNBELIEVABLE JOB. He is a performer and a musician of real ability on every level. He IS NOT PRETENDING to be Paul Weller, rather, he is doing an incredible job replicating that Artist's style, sound, ability and delivery.
If Paul Weller had his reasons, (and he did...) in calling it a day at the height of that outfit's success, it is quite understandable that his fellow band members might, (indeed did...) feel rather short-changed by that 'fait accompli'... The Jam WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED were it not (also) for Buckler and Foxton. If those men now choose to take the music they helped to create back on the road for an audience who, only too clearly, want to experience it in a live setting, in all its passionate intensity, who would deny them that? (I wouldn't!!!)
One wonders, of course, what Paul Weller might think, seeing this? (I don't know if he's ever commented, probably not...) I HOPE he smiles and thinks, "Yeah, it was THAT GOOD..." And it was. (It still is...)
    xx SF

Saw them in Auckland this week. They were knackered after flying in from Dubai, as one does. But soldiered on and did a great show. Down in the Tube Station at Midnight was a highlight, with the crowd singing along and doing the whole whoa oa oa oa bit, and the drummer leading that as Russell sorted a broken string issue. Magic.

If only Paul Weller could get down off his high horse and get back together with them....Or is he too scared that his musicianship would not match? Paul, if you're reading this, I'd give a week's wages to see a live reunion.

It was a song about life back then,
getting beaten up in the tube station or anywhere really was always a threat.
The National Front was a violent organisation, you could get battered for just having a Trojan record on you, I kid you not.
We all connected to the Jam when we heard this song. About as true to life as it gets. (At least back then.)
