When Reaves pins the puck against the boards late in the game and Florida is scared to go in and dig it out, IT MATTERS to have him in the lineup in the playoffs. 💀
Panthers fan here. Leafs truly outplayed the Cats who played in slow motion while skating on wet concrete. We were not prepared for this game and really could have lost by 4 or 5 goals. When we finally woke up, it was much too late. I saw a much different Leafs team than I saw in last years playoffs. If the Cats play does not improve we will be playing golf and fishing by the end of this month. Congrats on the win, the Leafs earned it.

Panthers are limping into playoffs ready to surprise everyone. Their game is suited for the playoffs. Unlike the leafs, who wither and crumple every year, the panthers know what it takes to win in the post season.

Tonight was my niece's first-ever Leaf game live. She absolutely adores Auston Matthews, and when he got his first goal, my brother in law sent me a picture of her literally in tears of joy.
Then she witnessed the third period and experienced what it's truly like to be a Leafs fan. But she stuck with it and got to see Auston secure the win with the empty netter. She was very happy and is a proud member of Leafs Nation. What a first game, eh?
Just wait till she watches them in the playoffs. Her tears will taste like the sweetest nectar when Matthews fails to show up once again. Good job setting up your niece to learn about disappointment for the rest of her life from an early early age

Remember when we got all excited over Phil almost scoring 40 goals? His career high here was 37 and he was considered a goal scoring phenomenon in his prime. Matthews scores 60 goals and people aren't even surprised. They expect him to score 70. That's how good he is
I guess this could be chalked up to it being different era's. Amazing how the game has developed even not so long ago when kessel was a leaf. Players take conditioning way more seriously, sports science is simply magnitudes better. Players are bigger faster stronger. Also the nhl has implemented rule changes that essentially have limited the illegal stuff a defenseman could do to stop an offensive attack. Stuff changes quick.
Or the fact that we consider anything less than 2 goals in 3 games a “slump” for him

Been a huge leafs fan my whole life growing up on Vancouver island. Made the trip out east for the first time this passed week and caught 3 games. Caps 5-1 W,
Buffalo 3-0 W and this 6-4 W. Been one helluva trip!! Always enjoy your stuff Steve keep it up!

I figured that some would be restored to all leaf fans, yeah they lost badly in the 2nd round, but they won a series.
Leafs nearly blew a 5-1 lead, the Leafs had no powerplays goals and the Buds still won. Again.
This is just a test for the playoffs

Keefe did say in the post game presser that he intentionally put the kid line in some tough spots to see how they would handle it in the 3rd... Ya it didn't go great, but it makes me feel better about the late mistakes knowing that it is just Keefe randomly screwing around.... that being said Sammy keep a winning, but my god he makes me nervous every time I watch him play.... Feels like every shot from the bluelime has a chance to go in against him regardless of traffic
The 16th fastest to 100 wins kinda surprised me. He really is a roller coaster of angst for any leafs fan.
When the team doesn’t play well in front of him, it’s hard for him to succeed. This team seems to go through defensive woes exactly the same time Sammy doesn’t play well. Not a coincidence.

6:09 That's Red Wings Center Michael Rasmussen. Matthews 60th was a PP goal and he barely held the puck in at the blue line, Rasmussen was saying something to the linesman and when he turned towards the net Matthews scored. Yes, I did look that up, it's 3AM and I have nothing better to do.
I mean they could win 16 times like that in the playoffs if I didn't keel over halfway through I'd be happy
The 3rd period wreckage i believe is the direct result of marner missing and keefe putting out random people to defend the lead…keefe literally put reaves out to defend a 6v5 with 2 mins left…

My late father, a lifelong Bruins fan, was so "salty" about how St. Louis was allowed to play in the 2019 Cup Finals that he was convinced the NHL wanted them to win. He had good judgment with nearly everything, but not this.

On the Reinhart goal, TJ Brodie jumps across the crease to take Tarasenko and not only leaves the back door open, but he also skates through Samsonov's stick, trapping it between his body and the goal post preventing Samsonov from getting across to make a better play on the shot. I think if Brodie stays put he either interrupts the pass, blocks the shot or Samsonov makes the save.
Sammy is underrated asf, when the defence is doing good sammy is doing good!
Gotta say I’ve really warmed up to Robertson this season. I think he’s been fantastic to watch and what a goal from the kid on bobrovsky . Sucks to see him move in and out of the line up when he’s scoring and hustling on the ice like this.

One thing we learned in that game was Connor Timmons should be in up in the box watching his team play during the playoffs. Most consistent giveaway machine on the Leafs.

What happened in the third period when the wheels almost fell off? Easy, they took their foot off the gas. Whenever they have kept their foot on the gas and continued to try and keep scoring, no matter the score, they do all right.

On Bennets' goal. The passer who was behind the net went totally untouched!! Where were any of the Leafs? Kinda remenisent of Wayne Gretzky.

One thing I can say about players being sick and injured, is that it’s made other players learn to play defence a lot more. Willy and Matty on the PK? This is a good thing, the core 4 really need to learn how to play in their own zone. It seems to really have worked to a point
"MATTY" has been one of the best 200 foot games in the NHL for several years. He doesn't have to learn it he IS IT. Willy is Willy and he has improved his overall game as well over the last three years.

The problem with big leads is leafs take the foot off the gas after 5 goals.... thinking theyve sealed it despite being only 2nd period. 3rd Period basically means zero offence, all defence. I dont remeber single decent Leafs offensive rush in the 3rd last night....not one.. The moment they get more than a 4 goal lead, ffoot off the offence.
I got home from work when they were up 5-1, told my mom “imagine if they tie it” and Florida immediately scores 2. Never in doubt that THEY MAKE IT STRESSFUL!

I’ve always wondered if part of the reason the leafs blow leads like this, is because it’s the regular season and they don’t mind taking a period off and not killing themselves if they don’t have to. Like, other players on other teams are being scratched to rest, so I don’t mind too bad if the leafs take the 3rd period off IN THE REGULAR SEASON as maintenance and injury prevention before the playoffs. IF that is the case
