    Love you channel Rob, plenty of diversity and breadth of content. And no plugging Brands and showy sponsored nonsense with a peg full of top end kit that most anglers could never afford unless they're sponsored. Well done mate.🤙

    You did brilliantly, right up until you used WD40. It's not designed as a lubricant. Worse that that, is that it will get into the reel and destroy the properties of the grease.

  • @gort742
    @gort742 3 роки тому +12

    Totally disagree with putting WD40 on your reel , it is not a lubricant , it's in the name " Water Displacement " its made from Hydrocarbons and is only a rust inhibitor , O.K. for a while then goes sticky and attracts grit and grime . Much better to use a light machine oil or even 3 in 1 oil .

    I appreciate you respool this way and are obviously happy with the results.
    However it’s not the very best way of eliminating twist when putting on a fixed spool reel. It is the perfect way of spooling up a multiplier....
    Think of mono as if it were a hosepipe. Remember having back in the day your hosepipe on an old car wheel fixed to the wall? If you pull it off and just try to straighten it, it has a tendency to kink due to twist. If you pull it off and wanted to put it onto another wheel then you would put it on as it came off the wall fixed side stopping any twist at all.
    So by that rationale, placing your spool of line on the floor, stand over it and hold your reel facing down at it and turn the handle will show you the way the reel rotor spins. This shows which way up the spool of line should face so it comes off the desired way. Just for the record I think 99.9% of reel spin the same way hence the new line should come off the spool anti-clockwise which means the line goes onto the reel the same way it came off the spool. Result is optimal therefore damn near zero twist.
    Sorry if this doesn’t make sense, the description is easier with diagrams!
    Anyhow, keep up the great work, Rob. All the best to you. 👍🏻👍🏻

    WD40 🤦‍♂️

  • @ShorrockPaul
    @ShorrockPaul Рік тому

    Hmmm nearly all the line spooling tutorials talk about line twist when respooling and that you have to lay the spool flat and let the line come off counterclockwise same direction the bail spins (looking from back) this lays the line on with no twist. Vertical spool or old style pencil through spool is for spooling baitcasters or if you take your spining spool off and run it parallel to the line spool... and using WD40 is not a good idea t will seep into the body, it will ruin rubber seals and it is not a lubricant

    Hey great video and cracking little tip using the cereal box,I was thinking of buying the velocity line but noticed you're only using 9.5lb breaking strain do you find this is sufficiently strong enough? Or should I go to 11.5 lbs as I usually fish 12lb but would prefer a lighter easy casting line. Thanks

    • @RobHughesTV
      @RobHughesTV  4 роки тому

      This is for my long range casting rod. I use it in 15 for other applications. I'd go up if its for "normal" fishing
