Moisture will most certainly collect in those tubes. Personally, I would drill holes in the back-lower corner of each metal support so that when you drive, the moisture should leak out the back and even if you don't drive, the moisture has a place to evaporate.
Dood! I am just getting ready to build a rack like this on my van and I was going through your past vids scoping out your design/setup last week! Perfect timing my friend! Thank you!
This is a really beautiful look on the van and adds a lot of utility! I'm curious about how much the rack weighs and what the rating capacity of the van roof. Haven't been able to find much info on this anywhere.
I had an idea for the rack build out. I'm thinking; adding stainless wire folding railing that fold down and over supplies stored on roof. could be set plumb for rook deck observation deck and star gazing.
Great rack! I'd love to see a video to get a better look at your ladder and how it mounts on the door. How far can you open the door before the ladder hits the van? Thanks for sharing!
Wood looks really good on the van. You really can enjoy like a terrasse. Great job 👍. Do you have noise problem when driving on the highway? What kind of spacing you have between 2 wood? 2 cm?
I really love your roof rack.. Can you tell me what you used. I don't understand what you mean my tubing. Can you tell me the name of the material? Thank you
Hey Josh, This is quite a bit of time later, however I am doing a 5x10 wood roof rack also from 1x4's, treated & stained. I'm going to have 6 rain gutter ladder racks, spaced about every 2ft apart. Will the boards bow? I'm using it for a cargo box & sleeping in a cot tent. Thanks for any info.
+William Lockard glad you liked them! I really don’t use much power, no fridge or anything that requires constant power. To be honest I most likely, with my set up, could’ve gotten away with just my starter battery! I would have invested in solar had I went the fridge route!
Hey love the videos mate, is your ladder made for the van? i have a connect in the U.K. and i can't find a ladder that i like but yours looks good. cheers
+Luke Russell thanks! Unfortunately no... I bought this one Surco 103H Hook Over Ladder www.amazon.com/dp/B000CCBMDU?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf And had to modify the tabs ( had longer brackets welded on) on top to hang on my rear doors!
Really inspiring dude. I just bought a 2012 I'm salivating over that wood roof idea

That's a good looking roof rack and it looks very well built as well. Good job.
The timber just makes it look so classy

Beautiful.... what an idea.. thank you for sharing.
Thank you for sharing this. Similar to what I am wanting for my Gen5 Outback.
It sure is pretty where you are. The tire storage isn't ideal but good job working things out. Nice racks and tie downs.

The commercial ones don't put the weight on the bolt holes but rather on a plate that spans interior roof beam.
Beautiful rack. I have my 2 solar panels up top on my transit, so no storage rack unfortunately.

I love your roof....
Hey boss awesome roof rack. What ladder is that? Want to mount one to my van for roof cleaning and access

Great rack man! I am not sure if you mentioned in the video which kind of screws did you use to secure the wood-studs to the frame?
Looks nice but that wooden bars wouldn't last long under the sun... Poly coating will come off, need to put poly layer every year.
Agreed! I tried to put a thick coat on but it did ultimately start to come off.
How does the wood handle the elements? How much did your van cost?
Hey Josh, can you tell me about your ladder? where and what brand? size? did you modify it?
Your rack looks very nice. I'm trying to find a reliable and not extremely sketchy set up for a fiberglass roof.
Thanks for this video! I'm getting my husband on making one for mine. Stealing something else. lol
@joshoakes what does it weigh?
I really love your roof rack.. Can you tell me what you used. I don't understand what you mean my tubing. Can you tell me the name of the material?
Thank you
The volume that is no longer occupied by the spare wheel could be used for something.
Hey man love this roof rack. Would you be able to email me the specs to build one myself? Would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance
Nice looking van. Can you send me info on your rear ladder?

Yes! I would rather save money to make a custom made roof rack.
What area is this filmed in? looks like a nice road in the middle of noplace. You know, for skateboards.
Hello, enjoyed all of your videos. Can I ask: what made you decide to rely on your van's alternator and not put a solar panel on the roof? Thanks!

Looks good thanks for the reply, looking forward to the next vid.
Where did you get your decal on the side made??
4:45 You're right, that's how it's pronounced.
Dude could I hire you to make me one?
Tooooooo heavy. Next time, use Aluminum.
