Great topic! Most, if not all, of us need a reminder to evaluate what we consume in light of God's Word. The biblical challenge to use our time well is always timely.

Basically, if you have the Holy Spirit within you, He will lead you. If its not right for you, the Holy Spirit will put a check in your Spirit. The thing is, do you hear the Holy Spirit? Scripture says He will teach you all things. And He will lead you in the way you should go. But if you're not studying your Bible, if you don't praise God daily, if you don't pray, if you never fast, then it will be very difficult to hear the Holy Spirit.

I'm a big Star Wars fan, I'm wondering if the movies fit this. A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi, to me, show good morals and some of the same philosophy of Christianity despite being fictional and secular. I see it as an allegory even though it definitely is not because George Lucas is for sure not a Christian and not particularly religious. He might be Buddhist, I don't remember.

I too am a huge fan of the Star Wars saga, as well as Walker Texas Ranger, UFC, etc. I think that the standard is "Does it defile your character and grieve the Holy Spirit?" It is very easy to be desensitized to things even after conversion, but as you renew your mind and mature you will become more and more sensitive to sin. I don't watch The Expendables as much as I used to.

The shows may have good morals. But is that your standard? I always ask, "does this bring glory or pleasure to God?" Ask Him, guided by the Holy Spirit and the Word. Remember that Satan transforms himself into an angel of light also. Not all that appears good actually is... I hope this helps.

3:21 "People who make me mad online."
In an online context, no one can possibly do that to you -- getting mad is your *choice.*

This logic seems to suggest we can't read or watch anything except the Bible because nothing is wholesome or lovely enough. I think you are getting the wrong message. I don't think there is prescription here on avoiding imperfect things. Instead, I think we are to reflect on God's character and find the good things He has imbued in all things. If something is making you spiritually feel bad, then sure, avoid it. But we are not going to find content that is perfectly theologically correct and in alignment with God's will. Instead, we should be focusing on the good aspects within any piece of media. For example, we shouldn't reject Harry Potter because it has sorcery and magic in it. Instead, we should contemplate the positive messages it delivers such as valuing truth, loyalty, self-sacrifice, etc. The prescription is on what we think about and focus on, not on what we encounter in the world.

Sadly, Allie does not demonstrate that she follows biblical instructions for woman. Why is she wearing jewelry and where is her head covering? Why is she teaching? If Allie wishes to demonstrate the Biblical gender role of women, she should remain silent with a head-covering and without the vanity of make-up and jewelry. The Bible says that "women...should not have fancy hairdos, or wear expensive clothes, or put on jewelry." - 1 Tim 2:9. "Women should be silent and not be allowed to teach" - 2 Tim 2:12. "For if a wife will not cover her head, then she should cut her hair short. But since it is disgraceful for a wife to cut off her hair or shave her head, let her cover her head." - 1 Cor 11:6.
