    Excellent way of explaining way AirDog is the one you pick. I have always used AirDog based on customer service. I also had a couple of electric motors die on me from fuel getting past the seal from the pump. My 12v didn't need a lift pump but my 24v did. I learned to hard way from the moment I bought it what it takes to keep it going. It blows me away to think that between Chrysler and Bosch engineering nobody had a bit of sense to increase the fuel pressure above 14psi when the relief return valve in the VP44 was set to 14psi. I bought my 2nd gen in 2013 and drove it 250 miles when it crapped out on the side of the road. VP44 failed and lift pump in the tank failed. Of course I am disabled with a limited income so it took me 3 months to come up with the cash to get it running again. In between I read everything I could about VP44s and the type of fuel system set up I needed to get reliability. My first diesel was a 2006 GMC 2500 SLT Duramax Crew Cab, a great truck with a Banks exhaust and cold air system and a single tune from PowerUpDiesel and believe me for the years I drove it I got 18 Plus in town and 23 to 24 mpg loaded with my gear (Boilermaker) on the road. I had to sell it when I could no longer work in 2011. The Dodges were great but I couldn't shift them with leg braces on which I have to wear to walk. Just bought a 2007 GMC Classic 2500 Duramax a few weeks ago, very comfortable for me and it's automatic. It needs some work, previous owners didn't do the maintenance like they should have in my opinion and it has left me with a hefty amount to spend to fix things. I guess I'm the biggest sucker when it comes to selling something. I always tell the truth and always tell everything that was worked on. I sleep well at night conscious wise but I will stand before God one day and be held accountable for my actions. I was watching your video because I wanted to try the FASS but couldn't do it based on my experience with AirDog and replacements which you reminded me of I'm going to stick with what worked best for me in the past. Thank you.

    I liked my airdog, I have the airdog 2 with plastic mounts, the biggest issue I had is gelling up and my motor went out. I ended up going with the FASS pump 1) easier to find filters that fit 2) local shop so if I want FASS filters they are right there and 3) most important reason, I can added a fuel heater also have option to run another electric heater. In Minnesota with bio diesel a heater is almost mandatory........I also have the beans sump.....LOVE IT

That said; My FASS 150 I installed the year before my factory warrenty expired on my 2001 24v H.O. as Cummins engineer recommended. ZERO problems after near 2 decades! Just did a physical test as lines aged / replaced. 16oz in less than 3 seconds, over 2 gallons in 30 seconds. I feel this is why my VP44 lasted over 20yrs!

    Have a 2006 6.0l fire ringed heads RR fuel system with an air dog 165 Kc 1.5 Warren diesel 155/30% injectors. Turned up the air dog to the max 70 psi at idle and anything past 1/2 throttle fuel pressure drops to 55 psi and the engine starts to misfire.

    The g&r has the beans beat I think same awesome one bolt design but has the return in the sump to. So less airation of fuel since it comes from the bottom and not dropping back on top. Just food for thought.

    • @_greg_a
      @_greg_a  7 років тому

      I understand what your saying, but Airdogs 4G's barely return any fuel to "drop" or "dump" from return. Even in G&R's video they have a 4G returning from the bottom and there is no bubbles even coming from it. I do like there sump but if you don't have a high return system, there really is no need for a bottom return. Again just my opinion

      @@SylasG There are several videos on UA-cam you can look up. Search FASS vs Air dog, and they do a side by side bench comparison. The pressure regulator is nice on an air dog, but another thing that sold me on a fast pump is that they're used so frequently on big rigs without complaints from what I've seen. So there's some pros and cons for each, it's all your personal opinion and what you feel is best for you application. For wanting pressure adjustability, and the best filtration
      It would make sense to put fass filters on an air dog pump. That's if they can be intermingled. But in the eye of common sense, it would make the most to do that

    For a stockfish truck a sump isn't needed as a matter of fact they can be problematic also. Its a lazy man's way out instead of modifying the factory pump. If you are having the 1/4 tank problem your probably going to have it with a sump. I didn't think cutting a 2 3/4" hole in the bottom of a fuel tank a great idea. You also have a fuel line under your tank with might be a good idea if you use your truck for 4 wheeling. Look at the data for pumps and you will see the difference between the airdog and the FASS system. Save your money and buy a pump that actually is good for your engine. Your experience means nothing compared to lab results. I'm going to buy a FASS system, but thanks for the video.

    One question though... while I like the design of the sump pickup, I don't like how low it would be on the tank of my E350, running a 7.3 I've recently gone through the entire pickup module in my tank, and would prefer to just route it through the standard top-draw to maintain the smooth lower profile, less chance to hit stuff with it. ;-)

      Even if you are picking up crap from the bottom of the tank, you now have 3 filters to remove it, instead of relying on just one that already exists on a stock truck, so not to worry. Thats the purpose of the filters.

    Hey man awesome video , I'm looking to get a pump myself really kinda made my decision for me . Was curious what did you paint your mirrors with? Soo tired of the faded black plastic look on my 05 .

      I had a body shop do them for me, so I believe there is a special primer they lay down after prep and then they get treated like any other body part.

    Yeah that hole straw pickup sucks
    I had a Fass system installed on my 2015 6.7 , well shortly after it was installed the tube fell off !
    I wished I’d seen this first Greg
    What a mess ,thx for the heads up👍

      Maybe I misunderstood, but the Airdog didn't change the straw situation you experienced with the FASS. The Bean sump would.

    What are your thoughts on running a higher GPH lift pump than you need, to leave room for future gains?
    My end-goal is 650hp which would put me in 150 GPH territory, but with the truck being nearly stock (just CAI, H&S tuner & 20% injectors) should I wait on a lift pump until turbo & tuning catches up?

    Competitors have shown airdog filtration to be horrible. I don't always believe what I see, even if it looked like a legit comparison. But I also would expect if this other manufacturer was making false claims over this product....AirDog would have buried this competitor by now. I say this because I'm looking to make this upgrade. Do you have any information refuting this?

    Hey Greg, I don't know if you already covered it but, in the vid you showed that you can adjust the pressure. How do you know what the correct pressure you need is? I don't wanna have to much or to little but that sweet spot.

      @arie the1manparty : Ideal is 20 psi at idle. You need a pressure gauge hooked up.

    Just wondering why you chose a stack over out the back exhaust?

    • @_greg_a
      @_greg_a  7 років тому

      Only because certain tracks require the exhaust on diesel trucks to point straight up, so the stack made it easier.

    • @grumpyraytv7778
      @grumpyraytv7778 4 роки тому

      It’s also significantly better for your engine due to EGT going up and out like gases are supposed to instead of traveling up and sticking to the top of your straight back exhaust

      yes I use Cat ir 751. 2 micron absolute, You have to remove 2 tabs that you see when you remove stock filter then it will fit. Ive been using this combo for a while now

      turbocrzy0823 I have a airdog 2 4g and didn't have to remove the tabs. I think they're making them like that now.

    Hey so I have a 2007 Silverado 2500 hd gas and it’s lifted and I’m getting 9 miles to the gallon. Is there a tuner or something I could buy so save more gas without lowering my truck??????

    • @jessesmith1181
      @jessesmith1181 5 років тому

      Just traded my 2007.5 2500hd crew cab in on a diesel because of the horrible mpg 9.5 driving and 7mpg while towing 7k pound trailer. Truck would struggle to hold overdrive on hwy also got on my nerves kicking down all the time from 6th to 5th gear at 70mph and 4th gear at 3300 rpm while pulling hills on highway

  • @trustytrucking9917

    More air re entering the system 😮. The diesel returning from the motor to the tank is hot and contributes to keep the diesel warm. I think this is all BS.

    Are these ment just for more fuel for more power or do they also help with component life

    • @paulbeal8150
      @paulbeal8150 3 роки тому

      They help with just about every aspect when it comes to the fuel system. Consistent fuel flow at a set pressure to the injection pump(s). Pump isn’t working as hard to get the fuel from the lift pump compared to the in tank pump. Increasing the life of the injection pump. The filters are generally a lower micron than the factory fuel filter and water separator. Helping take a lot debris and water out of the fuel before it makes it to your pump and into your injectors to cause damage. They also help with removing air from the fuel. Even a completely factory truck adding an air dog could benefit.
