Today 5/5/2023 was my first time watching this video and since I own a 2016 RAV4 Hybrid, I decided to follow the procedures step by step and everything worked as planned. To my surprise, the filters were only slightly dirty (half of it were clear) and in 30 seconds they were cleaned with pressurized air. The only issue I had was to figure out how to place the rear section of the bench seat but it took me less than a minute to discover the two hooks and the two rings on the rear of the seat to put it back in place.Your advice certainly saved me more than a few dollars and it is greatly appreciated.
I wonder why they couldn't design the grill over the filter so it just snaps in and out for easy removal or cleaning without having to disassemble the whole back seat and trim. I'm glad I don't have a pet, but I'm going to clean those filters soon to prevent heat buildup around the battery. Great video, by the way!
Thank You so much for this information. We have 3 Rav4 Hybrids in the family; two 2017's and one 2019. I now have a better understanding on how these vehicles work because of your great videos!
He forgot to do another cleanup before reinstalling the filter with its plastic housing. If you noticed in the video, at the bottom of the seat where the filter exists, there is a fair amount of dirt and pet hair laying around. He should have shown in the video, to vacuum that area up and the rest of the floor, because the air intake for the filter vent will take some of that left over dirt and hair in again. Otherwise, I like his videos, he is good at explaining things.
I Just completed this! It was very simple after watching this video, just use the same pic tool. I completed this in 15 minutes, we have no dogs so I will be cleaning this every year or so. Thank you so much and have a great Thanksgiving and thank you Sergi😀
I guessed the back seat bottom had to come out, but the rest is a surprise. Thanks for showing this process. I doubt my sister-in-law will ever do this on her 2018 RAV4 hybrid.
Thanks so much for the video and for-dummies steps! I think I should be able to clean mine now :D. I've had the car for 3 years and regularly vaccum the outside filter face, the backseat doesn't get much action, so hopefully it is clean enough

Thanks CCN, you are the Toyota hybrid CNN. Like you religiously preach, a filthy filter is the number one ☝🏽 killer of a hybrid battery 🔋 so it’s only right that you demonstrate to us how to clean and get to it. Thanks 🙏🏾 man. Much blessings much love
Thankyou for the video, this is exactly the sort of thing people need to know. A mesh filter doesn't seem like the best idea, I can see lots of smaller dirt particles getting past the mesh and eventually clogging the fan. I wonder why the filter isn't made of the same material as an engine air filter. Engine air filters are cheap, they catch everything and you can see when they are dirty and easily replace it.
What a great series of videos. I own a 2018 Rav4 Hybrid Limited and I have owned 12 Mercedes in my lifetime. Several W124s and 2 W140s including a 1997 S500 and a 1999 S600. My Rav4 is probably my 3rd favorite of all. Tough to beat the W124s and W140s. I noticed you have a 2012 S550. Sweet ride. It's impossible to put into words the feeling when driving an S-klasse. Thanks for the straightforward no BS videos. God Bless and keep you as well my friend.

I just did this today pretty easy, but I'm ordering a CRAFTSMAN set with Straight Pick, Full 180 degree Hook, 90 degree Hook, Small Angle 35 degree Hook for $10 from Amazon to make it easier next time. The screw driver was kinda a pain on the handles. lol Any ways, I used a ShopVac with a Dusting Brush Wet/Dry Vac Attachment to clean seats, around the removed panels and on the vents that weren't hardly dirty for a 2017 hybrid RAV4 I'm surprised. Heck, I used a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Foam Cleaning Pads on all the panels I removed too and dried them off with a towel before reinstallation. =)
How's it going?....been looking into 2007 Toyota Tundra recently or for a long time... i've been researching deeply into the truck about pretty much everything there is needed to know about the truck but I guess i feel like i haven't gotten a complete solid resource to pin point in the end if i should buy one. I've seen many of your car buying guides and i've enjoyed seeing every single video i've genuinely learned from your videos more than other related videos or forums. I'm genuinely waiting for the day you make a buying guide video for 2007-2013 tundra to be aware of what i should look out for before buying any 2007 Tundra i come across
Thank you for watching my videos. The 2007-2013 tundra buying guide is on the list it might take a bit of time to get to it on my end. 2007 tundra is good overall as long as it’s been maintained right. The early ones had issues with valve springs breaking. Best one to buy is if you can find one with the 4.7L engine which is truly bullet proof. The 5.7 in this year was good but we’ve seen a good number of them break a valve spring and drop a valve and basically destroy itself. No real way to check them. Over reviving that engine pushes it towards breaking a valve spring. Notorious for water pump leaks and some oil leaks over the exhaust manifold that are kinda of a nightmare to fix. Rust kills these trucks so I’d make sure it’s not a rusty one you’re looking at. It goes through brakes pretty quick and if rusty could have locked up calipers. If the truck you’re looking at has been well maintained these things can last a very long time and they are really a hidden gem if you would.

I have a 2018 Lexus NX300h that I bought used about 4 months ago. Unless I get information that my car is different from a RAV4 wrt the hybrid battery filters, I’ll attempt the procedure shown in this video. I see several people have asked about the Lexus NX hybrid filters, but I haven’t found any answers here or anywhere else on the web. I’ll let you all know how it goes.
You’re welcome! The hybrid fan is buried in this one. Glad they put filters. Heavy disassembly of the interior is needed to get to the fan.it’s towards the back of the battery
Just came from Toyota Dealership in Colorado, they did a oil change and tire rotation. On there recommendations was a hybrid fan filter service. They said it was a 60 thousand miles maintenance. They wanted $199,99 for this. Is there something other than cleaning the fan filters on my 2016 hybrid rav4 that they would be doing? From watching your video, I can do the filter cleaning easy in 25 minutes
Wow! Your description and filming is spot-on, very clear - I'm going to have a go at checking the filters on my 2018 RAV4 Hybrid because I'm not sure its a standard check on the Toyota servicing (in the UK??)....... Do you have an Amazon link for the "pick" tool you used please?

Thank you for watching my video. The 2020 highlander is too new to know all it’s common trends however the initial launch of your highlander was a very smooth one with almost no early production issues at all. @@TheCarCareNut Thank you so much! I am really impressed with this engine. I got 52 MPG today in heavy city traffic with AC on. I am averaging about 44 MPG so far for the first 5 000 miles. Great SUV and very comfortable.
So, my car caught fire this afternoon. The fire dept never found anything actively burning but smoke was pouring out of the plastic panels toward the back of the car. It’s currently at the shop and I’m nervous. Hopefully these batteries aren’t gone
Great demonstration, but why in hell did they not make the little filter easier to remove? They could have made a small slip in coveer that you just pull out without having to remove the seat bottom and the lever, and those clips! Absolutely nuts! Especially when it is so important!
How about accessing the hybrid battery fan filter for the Avalon Hybrid 2013-2016. Is it similar to the Camry where you have to remove the seats? Haven't been able to find instructions. Thank you for any advice.
Great video. The 2021 Sienna has the hybrid battery underneath the Driver and passenger seats. How much more difficult is that fan to clean? Will the seats need to be removed?

@@TheCarCareNut yes, where the air discharge of the battery is, the manual says that if lugagge covers it it doesnt afect, but I dont know about the mats. apparently the air flow can go to the sides where the back wheels are, but im not sure if the top part is covered it will arm it. thank you for your answer :D
@@TheCarCareNut thank you so much, one last question I have an electric opening and closing back door, do they need some maintenance? I notice it is making some noise but idk if is normal or not. Thank you so much
They typically don’t require any maintenance. The noise can be coming from the motors themselves haven’t seen any good way to make them stop making the noise
Hi AMD, I have just checked my 17 RAV4 Hybrid’s filters, and they appear to be clean - I cannot see any dog hair etc inside. Would you recommend I take everything apart, and clean the filters and inside anyway? This will be the first time I clean the filters. Also, how often, or do you recommend cleaning the hybrid fan itself - dust build ups on the blades? Thanks.
Great videos all around. Quick question. On a 2016 Rav4 Hybrid, can you bleed the brakes the traditional way or do you need techstream software to bleed the rear brakes?
Leave it to Toyota to make it hard to access LOL. Could have made it easier for all of us and just do a simple snap on snap off door with enough room for cleaning equipment to get in instead of all this panel removal stuff. Love the video btw wouldn't have known about it.
Hi gram! If the fan gets dirty it would need cleaning. However if you have a filter then the chances of the fan getting dirty are very minimal as the filter will catch all the dirt before it makes it to the fan
I have a 2017 model and cannot get the seat to lift up. It feels like I’ll break it if a pull any harder. Back seats are fully reclined as well. Any tips? thanks Dan
Is the filter cleaning available in Toyota dealerships as a service option? The compressed air tool you used is super cool compared to vacuum cleaners. May I know the brand name of that? Thanks!
Most dealerships will have that as a 2 stage service. One of them is for cars that has no filter it will cost more to clean the actual fan and install a filter. And another service for cars with a filter to just clean the filter or replace it which is cheaper. I have a compressor and an air chuck. The compressor is from Home Depot a husky 30 gallon. A bit on the small side for what I use it for but for a homeowner it’s great. And the chuck can be bought at any parts store or even harbor frieght.
My parents got a 2007 Highlander Hybrid a few years ago that had records of all the fluid changes etc... only heard about cleaning these fan filters since finding your channel. Does the 2007 highlander hybrid have similar filter that's serviceable as this RAV4? I noticed there are vents below the bench, but they don't appear to have any filters in them just the grille from what I can tell.
Excellent video! By any chance, do you know where is the Hybrid Battery Fan Filter located for a 2016 Highlander? I checked on my Highlander, but I saw too many vents and don't know which one is the HB Fan Filter. 😔 Thanks
@@TheCarCareNut I will try to remove them in order to cleaning them. I have not checked how to do it though, is there any video that you can recommend on how to do it? Is it similar to this video (RAV4 one)? Thank you so much for taking the time to answer! You have gained a new subscriber. Keep up the good work!
I don’t have a video on them yet. Each vent will have 2 small doors that pop open exposing 2 10mm screws remove them and each vent will pop out for cleaning.
Hi I was looking at The new Venza hybrid. Do you have any thoughts on it. Does it look to be a good car to get or should I look at the RAV4 hybrid instead. I am sometimes dubious of new models. Thanks for your thoughts.
Hi! The venza is good my only issue with it is the price which seems a bit high. I would drive both and see which one you like better. They drive very similar as they have the same hybrid system but it goes down to taste at that point.
Go like so I have the Prius Prime it has an easier filter with an easier access do I still have to take off the entire seat like this to access the inside or do I just clean the outer filter

Thanks.
Hi! If they’re clean I would leave them alone. Unless you see debris on the filter there’s no need to take it apart.
@@TheCarCareNut thank you, keep up the good work!
Great videos all around. Quick question. On a 2016 Rav4 Hybrid, can you bleed the brakes the traditional way or do you need techstream software to bleed the rear brakes?
Hi! To bleed the brakes after parts replacement you need a scan tool.
Do you plan to show how to clean the fan on the 2007-2011 Camry Hybrid? I don't think there is a filter.
I have a video for the 2007-2011 Camry hybrid. Find it here ua-cam.com/video/0vwgmIsAefY/v-deo.html
Thanks 🙏 man... this is what I was looking for ..
Leave it to Toyota to make it hard to access LOL. Could have made it easier for all of us and just do a simple snap on snap off door with enough room for cleaning equipment to get in instead of all this panel removal stuff. Love the video btw wouldn't have known about it.
We learn to clean Hybrid Battery Fan filter. But what if Hybrid Battery Fan gets dirty. What will we do? Thank You...
Hi gram! If the fan gets dirty it would need cleaning. However if you have a filter then the chances of the fan getting dirty are very minimal as the filter will catch all the dirt before it makes it to the fan
Thank You so much....🙂
I have a 2017 model and cannot get the seat to lift up. It feels like I’ll break it if a pull any harder. Back seats are fully reclined as well. Any tips? thanks Dan
Are you able to do a hybrid battery filter clean on a 2020 C HR, Thanks
Unfortunately they don’t sell the CHR as a hybrid model in my market.
My 2017 hybrid RAV4 engine heating. I checked thermostat and heating temperature sensor it's ok. Any suggestions
I had toyota auris touring sport ette hybrid 20 14 hour you clen th filter ll could you do vio on tho
@@TheCarCareNut Thank you kindly.
Great. I was waiting for this. Thanks
I just got a 2017 Avalon & I'm seeing the vent starting to be partially clogged but no instructions in the owners manual! Can u help:)
Hi! The 3 vents under the back seat do have mesh filters like the RAV4 build into them and can get clogged.
Is it the same process for 2016 Lexus NX 300h?
Excellent video! By any chance, do you know where is the Hybrid Battery Fan Filter located for a 2016 Highlander? I checked on my Highlander, but I saw too many vents and don't know which one is the HB Fan Filter. 😔 Thanks
Hi! The three vents underneath the back seat has a built in mesh in each one
@@TheCarCareNut So, in other words, the Highlander has three Battery Fan Filters (not one as most Toyota hybrids)?
Due to the design of the battery it does have 3 vents and 3 filters. They are reusable though. Just clean them no need to replace them.
Each vent will have 2 small doors that pop open exposing 2 10mm screws remove them and each vent will pop out for cleaning.
very educative. thank you regards.
Awesome ... and very clear. Thanks!
YOU DA-MAN !!
Go like so I have the Prius Prime it has an easier filter with an easier access do I still have to take off the entire seat like this to access the inside or do I just clean the outer filter
In your prime the filters should come out on the sides of the back seat much easier than the rav4
Is the hybrid battery fan easy to get to for cleaning? Was hoping you’d keep going to get to the fan haha. Thanks anyway.
I check the Toyota Prius vent filter is different with the rav 4, is that mean the rav 4 doesn't have vent filter like Prius???
Subscribed, as You have an acquaintance = Sergei ! !
Thank you very much
This is awesome. Thank you so much.
Doing the same on my Prius C is like a walk in the park compare with the RAV4.
Similar to the RAV4 but only one vent on the drivers side of the back seat.
@@TheCarCareNut Thank you very much dear AMD.
God bless you brother!
Nice.how long and how many miles we have to clean?
Depends on your use. I would check it every 3 months if it’s clean then 6 months and go from there.
