better yet, motte's va is the game's french translator, deliberately using heavily butchered french
I love that she sounds like an actual French person but then speaks the dumbest French imaginable.
I like that the cast of characters is a mixture of stand-ins for the Zelda CD-i characters (the jovial king with a deep voice, the king's messenger who announces the villain's return, the shopkeeper who loves Rubies, the barely-intelligible drunk guy, the cracked-out fairy, the pipe-smoking man who says "Aye") and original characters who really have a lot of charm! (the Bullwinkle blacksmith, Denny the vampire, FINE DINING, Skelvis, tubular volcano dude, and -Crude- Oil Drinker Zazie)

My favourite character showing up in both games is the burly and weirdly threatening butcher-lady.

I can’t think of a spiritual successor that nails down the artstyle and overall charm of the previous games quite like Arzette has.
The animations are somewhat off, in the CDI games they were very fluid and constantly moving. They're a bit more stilted and sane in this one.
I mean, Shovel Knight maybe, but Shovel Knight is also its own thing

Nodelki is an anagram of the duke Onkled from the old games, and he get the jewel shards by scrubbing all of the floors in Not Hyrule. and the game kicks off with him releasing Not Ganon from the book Link/Zelda imprisoned him in. Dear Lord.
Nodelki also used to rule Amelog (Gamelon).
The king’s advisor Wogram is close to an anagram of Gwonam (with an R instead of an N)
If there's any unironic takeaway from all this, it's that you shouldn't fear imperfection in your creative works. There have been literal multi-million dollar mega projects in media that have had less cultural impact than a couple of low-budget disks for a forgotten device that struggled to qualify as a 'console'. Fame and legacy are strange, fickle things that are beholden to no rules. Just relax, do your thing, and don't worry if the inscrutable whims of culture carry your work into unexpected directions.

The CDI's development and Nintendo's licensed characters being affiliated with those games is too strange to ignore, there is a natural intrigue.

@@aluigiFromKart It’s wonderful! I work remote, I talk with the folks there every week and they give me art requests of things to draw for their presentations or projects. Sometimes I’ll be drawing oyster DNA methylation, sometimes I’ll be drawing the holobiont of a coral polyp! There’s also a website where I manually categorize corals in an underwater photograph based on where 40 of these computer-genned points land.
It’s crazy fun and I’m mad lucky to be able to combine my art skills with my passions for crazy cool marine biology!

Vinny's voice at 5:35 sounds like Dr Mrs The Monarch from Venture Bros. I wonder if he knows that show, he'd absolutely love it, imo the best animated series of all time.
You'd think he'd be familiar with the show, considering all the pop culture and David Bowie references.
It actually spent the time 100% the game it's surprising how they took a flawed formula and made it good, GREAT even!

As for "shitting oneself for entertainment", IIRC Punk Duck once "did vlog shit" for Trelli as a bit during Hi-Rez Expo. He set up a camera to only capture him above the waistline, and captured essentially 54 minutes of grimacing on the toilet (I don't know if Trelli still has the footage). Pretty nuts, I know, and if you seek to hear the story told by Ed himself, he tells it near the end of the Please Stop Talking episode "Stop Staring". Skip to the Patreon Questions segment if you only want that story, but honestly that whole episode is a banger if you have an hour and 20 minutes to spare.
I love that sometimes the pixel quality during cutscenes gets crusty, like when you enlarge an image in ms paint

The soundtrack of this game is absolutely amazing.
4:17 I like to imagine that Vinny didn't put those gloves on specifically for showing off his spoon. But instead, that he just walks around his apartment with rubber gloves on all the time.

Second: As a subscriber of MVG, it's pretty trippy hearing his voice in this game.

10:30, I also didn't pick up that this was VInny, so when I first saw the credits I did a double take.
What's funny is, first time I rewatched I immediately noticed the frog. No offense to Vinny, but I think the reason most people don't notice it first isn't because he's doing a very different voice, but rather the voice sort of just "blends in" to the other voices in the world, like maybe you aren't thinking about it.
You can't fathom the simple joys of pulling off the sword crit tech, let alone getting the sword wave super early game.
