I fixed the D-pad now it's perfect! Will do a video on how to fix the broken D-pad oh and the Anbernic 556 has died on me RIP 556, sent it back and will do a video when I get a new one. But what I did see and play on it...it's was great 👍

I will say the scaling on the GBA games are incorrect its immediately noticeable if you play Mega Man Zero or Mega Man and Bass, but that is fixed by playing with the shaders in retroarch (the program used to emulate on this device). Just hit the menu button and it will have you in the quick menu. Scroll down to "Shaders" and select it Scroll down to "Shader Passes" and change it to 2 Scroll down to "Shader #0" and select it Scroll down the folders until you find the "interpolation" folder and select it Then select the "shaders" folder Then select smootheststep,glsl (this smooths the uneven pixels to look accurate) After selecting it you will be taken back to the Shaders setting Scroll down to "Shader #0 Filter" change it to linear Scroll down to "Shader #0 Scale" if you want just the raw pixels and no extra screen filter set it to 3x (set the "Shader Passes" back to 1), if you want the filter set it to 6x Scroll down to "Shader #1" and select it Scroll down the folders until you find the "handheld" folder and select it Then select the "shaders" folder Then select lcd1x_psp.glsl (This is the only filter that doesn't get funky and it looks quite accurate) Like before after selecting it will bring you back to the Shaders setting scroll down to "Shader #1 Filter" change it to Nearest you can leave the "Shader #1 Scale" default Viola it's basically perfect you can select "Save Preset" and then "Save Core Preset" so it applies to all GBA games that run on the core used (mGBA is the default core)
Yeah man it's great to have them but to be honest with you on a 3,5 inch screen it's not worth it for me it dose not bother me that the pixels are out of line a little bit..am to busy enjoying the game. But if it was on a TV or screen then yes it would bug me. But yeah man I know all about the shades and the tricks or RA man but thank you for the Step by step brother 🙏
I skipped most of the Anbernics lately. I did buy an RG Cube, which is great and a nice performance improvement over the RG 405 and RG505 that I had been using for a while.
@@SonicLoveEmulation Last ones i bought were the square yellow LDK thing and the RS90 years ago . both Running RetroFW 2.3. i'm ok with everything up to PS1 . There was a new hand held being release every week so i just stopped . I will be buying a hand held PC like the Steam Deck or something more powerful. Then that will be it for me. Full speed PS2 emulation will be the stopping point.
@@Rick_Todd steam deck is the best all rounder I feel, it's dose great emulation and still performs amazing on pc games due to the fantastic support it gets with updates and so much optimization...it's a soled choice man

I also don't like the clicky buttons I also didn't like Anbernic's default OS, I immediately stuck MuOS on mine with the GB theme . Sonic, we would love to see some videos of you trying other OS'es on your RG35XX SP
It's a great handheld, but there is a new model, called the rg40xx might want to take a look at it first..same chip set, but has analog sticks and a way better D-pad plus a 4 inch 4:3 display...just a thought.
Got mine 2 days ago and love it 🤘🏽i find turning shaders off stops lag on some games 🙏🏽i usually make Grips for all my handheld emulation devices but this time i bought one off Etsy and see how that goes

Definitely is a very attractive handheld with just pure naustalga, and once you fix the D-pad it's just becomes Perfect. What color did you get? And what system do you mostly play on the RG35XXSP?
@@Carcosahead you have to update the firmware with new SD cards and flash the firmware, and you can back up your saves to your pc to put on the new cards...I do have a video on how to update it for the RG35XX h but it's the sane for the sp. Just make sure you download the right firmware from the Anbernic website.
Looks nice in blue ,i myself got the landscape version 35xxh im sure the d pad need fixing on it ,but happy with it ,i play tekken 6 but quite laggy on stock firmware so need to tweak it a bit ,happy to view your content Sonic love 👍🏼😊

This is by far, by leaps and bounds, my favorite chinese retro handheld of all time! This is the one I've been waiting for. I have like 20 or so, play them for a few days, and move on. I can usually tell if I'm going to like a gaming accessory pretty quickly, no matter how I try to force myself to like them I can't. I usually wait a few months to get them to allow better firmware to be released but I took a chance on this. Luckily this one came with a really solid firmware but the hardware is amazing. I might be a little biased as I had a SP as a kid.

I have not put this system down since I received it. I have not felt like this about a system in a long time. I want to purchase a second one but there really is no need.
I didn't get one, Sonic cuz I bought a Tears of the Kingdom edition Switch oled. I don't care if I'm late with the Switch but I must have one. As for that device, I would get it for Atomis wave. I am playing Atomis wave on my Redream emu and it is great there. But I'm still gonna get that I don't know when but it just have to happen, eventually.

@@SonicLoveEmulation The silver colour. I still have my 20 year old Tribal silver GBA SP so it seems most fitting. I would probably have gone for either the black or blue models if they were a solid colour.
Why do most reviewers use Retroarch to play GBA games ? I notice some games on retroarch will lose save data if i accidentally hit reset bottom. The standalone emulator is easier to use, and the HD filter makes gaming experience quite nice, and no issue with save data loss from emulator.
Mine came last week and screen dint work it looked very nice sent it back and just hope I get a replacement . Yet another to vid man and as always SONIC FOR PRESIDENT
I got the 556 and half way through making the video on it when I turned it off it never come back on, it also happened withe the arc d its so frustrating when something like that happens especially when you are excited to get it, for it to brake or not work man. @@fonzitheman not at all and yes it's from them directly...it happened with the rg35xx h the first one I got and then with the arc s, so that 3 systems now that it's just died out the blue. And to top it all I see loads of the new cube has really bad light bleed and I got one of them on the way too. And obviously the poo dpad design on the sp...I think they are slightly neglected there QC checks
@@KegRaider ha ha I have reviewed all handhelds with the same chip h700 in every device the same performance on the rg35xx h, rg28xx every one knows what it's like but the most questions I get are what the higher end games run like so I put them at the forefront of this particular video, but I will be doing a top 20 gba games showcase on the sp to play. Nope, bought it myself..and I have shown God of War running on the rg35xx plus, the rg35xx h the rg28xx. It runs OK with the cheat code. I have show the performance of this chip set on multiple video buddy
God of War ran ok for me but Somehow I have to map my controls because my controls were not mapped and the only thing I could do was swing my chains and jump. Couldn't move left to right. I haven't sat down with mine with enough time to figure things out but I can say that so far I'm digging this Anbernic device. I also have the RG35xx which I am also fond of. As soon as I can get a chance to sit down on an off work day, I'm going to fix my RG351p. I'm getting more and more impressed with Anbernic. I've never had any Gameboy devices and this gives me a chance to relive my childhood. I also had a little trouble with the Dpad during Mrs. Pacman and 1944
@@GurlDreamer54 yes I can truly say this is the one for me, if I had to pick one handheld to play for the rest of my life if would be the RG35XXSP in my youthful days this was indeed my most played system and even now I have molded SP's snes, and DragonBall SP ips screens. I absolutely love it and gba games and arcade games are my favorites to play on this so far. Keep a eye out for the modding video to fix the D-pad

I had same issue when I got mine. You could open it up like I did and reseat display ribbon. That worked on mine
