  • Here we have some video documentation I made while fitting the Kiwitechnics KIWI 1000 processor upgrade for the Matrix 1000 rackmount analogue synthesizer.
For the hard of thinking or just lazy. This is a INSTALL/REPAIR VIDEO not a DEMO video.
There are many people doing that on UA-cam
I also changed out a bad MIDI socket. For Information only. Please consult the KIWI 1000 manual for details on installing this kit.

Many thanks for for sharing this video, I am doing the exact opposite, I bought a Kiwi moded Matrix 1000 and I am going to take it back to Tauntek. Unfortunately I have had to purchase all the ICs but I intend to DIP switch it so I can easily swap between both versions without soldering.

Currently in the process of repairing a TR505 as a lockdown project and came across your channel. Great to hear a familiar accent...hello from Lisburn

Hi, i have a similar issue with my midi jack, and am having a hard time finding one thats compatible. Do you happen to know which part you used? Thanks!

hi it's been a while but I think I used one from Rapid Electronics. In actuality, it looks like the one from my video rather than the stock image in the shop listing.

Oof, $48 shipping is pretty hefty for a couple of those to the US. Thanks though, I now have a better starting g point for my search!

Great, many thanks for posting this - I’m considering carrying out this mod soon. Interested to understand your thoughts on the sound differences after and also if control within DAW was much better, if you have used it in this way?
    Cheers 🙂

hi thanks for the comments. This was just a a repair and upgrade I did for a friend so didn't get a chance to do a sound comparison or really use the synth in any meaningful way. I think he said the synth was much more useful over MIDI but he still found the whole synth a bit slow to respond for the kind of music he was doing, so not really sure how it all went. Sorry can't help more

Any recommendations on a voice chip that won’t calibrate?

i'm not familiar with the 1000 as I don;t own it, but if the supply voltage to an IC is not correct it can sometime not be able to be calibrated. Also sometimes the IS just ages. If you try swapping the Ic around and see if the issue moves with the chip. Although many may be soldered in:(

it's a repair video that's why. INSTALL/REPAIR , not a DEMO understand or do you need it repeated. Also it's in the Synthesizer and Electronics repair playlist, NOT sound DEMO. People like you suck the life out of the internet you really do

I perhaps over reacted a tad there LOL, but I believe there's loads of demo videos out there, plus I didn't have the machine for that long and didn't have the time to demo it. @@nobodynoone2500
