This is "exactly" the tutorial I need right now for a catt I was given. Thank you for this lesson because I can use all the help I can get. You made it look reasonable and your explanation throughout it was easy to follow. Thumbs up #143!!!
veronica galvez That's really why I bought the plant actually... I wanted to show that even something that is shrivelled up and has no roots to speak of might still have hope. we have all had a plant like this in our collection. with the right care it might be possible to bring it back :) AND it was 5 dollars..lol
I love your video! It seems there are so many different ways to fix an orchid firmly to a pot, but it never occurred to me to do it the way you did in this video, with a wire fixing it to the bottom of the pot. And that seems like a great idea. I will definitely try it out! Thanks! I would love to see an update on this orchid later this year. It seems to be in such a good condition, despite having lost all its roots, so it has a great chance to make it. The bulbs look so fresh and beautiful. I'll keep my fingers crossed, Take care!
It's not in that bad of shape. you CAN save it.... I got the faith. LoL I just bought my first ever Vanda orchids I posted recently I am really excited about. Hope I can keep them alive....lol
Mrs Tracy lots of sun... warm days. the roots don't like to be wet but they to be moist..lol.. catch 22. most people don't grow them in pots. the media tends to retain too much water. the best way is to have them in a basket where the roots can be free. mist the roots regularly and dunk the roots and plant in a bucket of water (I dunk mine once or twice a week)
No actually it was another vendor who had clips, stakes and his own mix of bottles of fertilizer. I bought the fertilizer, I'll check the label and let you know. He also had pants on the other half of the table...
stefbrownonpointe It's so hard to pass up a great deal :) I Googled the image as well after I shot the video... I used that picture to make the thumbnail..
I've done this at least 20 times with 10 phals and 10 catts. None of them except 2 walmart phals survived. Don't ignore it or it'll die, that seems to be my problem. I always forget to water the rescue plants :P
I really think that that Cattleya orchid is a BLC and not an RLC... Because I have got one BLC orchid and the flower looks like the one your orchid got. It changes only in the colours. By the way, myine is a BLC Jong Kong Sun.
Check your facebook page...I shared the photo of my beautiful Blc. Village Chief Headache in bloom when I bought it in November. Very big, bright and beautiful!

What a deal! For $5 you just can't go wrong!! I've recently dealt with the same situation... I like your anchoring method... Must try it next time.
Fern Crafts I have tried looking for rhizome clips that hold plants in place but I haven't been successful. I needed to improvise.
As long as it works, thats all that matters. Saw some nice rhizome clips at the orchid show...but i'm sure they might be pricey...
where did you see those? the ravenvision table?

I'm sure you can rescue this little one!
Good luck with it Bill im sure she will bounce back
Growing Things I think so.. but you never know
oh I know lol itll be fine , but then again you do admit to being a lazy gardener ;-P
Growing Things where are you getting orchids on a 5 dollar discount rack?
Growing Things it's a big garden centre just 2 minutes down the street. they usually have a wonderful selection of orchids.
lucky duck
Awesome deal on a relatively healthy Cattleya! Should bounce back in no time. Plenty of viable eyes on it :D
you should know orchid snob..lol
***** I'm happy to hear that. Thank you :)
Growing Things Oh Chris..lol
Growing Things So much love from you Chris. I almost can't take it!
lol
What a bargain! Am sure you'll nurse her back to life. Google image search shows it's yellow with a burgundy'ish lip.

Do you spray pesticide on it before add it to your collection and if yes can I ask what kind of pesticide you use?
"Village chief headache"?! Who the heck names these things? lol
I have a headache and village chief is written all over it!
good luck!!!
why cinnamon? does that seal the roots off or prevent disease?
It seals off the cut on the rhizome to prevent disease and viruses, yes.
I would suggest that you cut up the moss so it won't compact
good luck i saw a picture was orange with red lips
just google the name you will find the picture, I get itchy nose any time I want to get headache, who knows.
Headache is the operative word here.
***** For 5 dollars i'll take on the Headache :)
I've DONE almost in the same way to secure few phal :D :D :D

I thought you've been complaining about limited space :)
Jackie Fu LOL.. yes Every day.. I am starting to toss a few things away if they are not doing very well.
Update?
No change yet.. I'll have an update when I see something happening.
Check your facebook page...I shared the photo of my beautiful Blc. Village Chief Headache in bloom when I bought it in November. Very big, bright and beautiful!
Ana Sam I saw it :) Beautiful :)
You forgot to apply the cinnamon
Jackie Fu I did apply cinnamon to the cuts... I must have edited out that part in error :(
good luck !!!
Marcia Esterling Thank you
