And then I hope a talented screenwriter and director are able to turn it into a film, they wouldn’t even need to take creative liberties, the story is all parts devastating, inspiring and most importantly human
This reminds me of my dad and our family back in the 1970s. We owned a ranch a few miles from our small town and feed store in town. I don't recall there being a welfare or food stamp program then. But my dad was one of the most caring, kind and never judgmental person I've known. Not only did we ranch but farmed also. Every year we planted a hugh garden near a creek on the ranch and a smaller one up by our house. He believed in giving to the community and taught us to do the same. It was us 3 kids place to tend and harvest the bigger garden on the creek. He built a little booth outside the feed store had paper sacks and small boxes stacked on the side with a sign saying FREE VEGETABLES, take what you need, use what you take. Every Saturday we loaded the veggies picked from the creek garden into boxes and the bed of dad's old farm truck. He took them to the feed store and set them in that booth. People who were less fortunate would come by and get free fresh vegetables all summer long. I loved seeing the smiles and grateful thanks from the town folk who needed them. My dad was one of a kind and i will always cherish the lessons taught by tending and giving away the fruits of our labor to those who needed help. Wasn't always fun tending such a huge garden, was hot, physically challenging and exhausting for us but it was well worth the task being part of helping our community. This went on for years, till we grew up and left the ranch. I will never forget this being part of my childhood.
Another level of this thing, it looks like he's using retired volunteers to run the place. So he's also giving the elderly a reason to stay engaged in the community, which can be a challenge for them
"It cuts down on robberies" I love this man. Also I think it´s very important to give people access to books, who aren´t financially stable enough to buy them by themselfs, or just wouldn´t read books. That way you make sure culture and history will not slip away. Because literature is one of the things that stays when memories fade.
Wow! I'm. Very. Impressed. Deeply satisfied and content, it seems that RW has found his calling. My first job during high school was working in a media center in the basement of our local Carnegie Library. Teachers from the region would come with vans to return books only to load up with other books to take back to their classrooms for another two months or so. It was always a joy to know that the cycle of reading and learning continued, and that with every new book, kids could open their minds to another adventure! 💓☮️💓
I absolutely love this! Seeing all of those books ruined and burnt broke my heart but seeing how many boxes replaces them was wonderful. I would love to visit there sometime. I would work there in a heartbeat and not have a care in the world ❤️
What an immense and far reaching blessing! The gift of books and education will impact not only these folks but generations to come. Awesome way to make the world a better place!! 🥰
As somebody that grew up just outside of southeast DC and has been to Baltimore more times than I can count and knows the ups and downs of the city this absolutely warms my heart and hopes it flourishes and would absolutely love an update since this was just over two years ago
My journey started out with my Mom signing me up for speed reading class one summer. I was annoyed. Then...I loved it. I went to school that fall and was looking around the library for what to read. The librarian asked what I wanted. I said: the thickest book with the smallest font. She brought me a book on vampires and when I returned it, she had another and another and another for all of Jr high... I have never stopped reading 1 book a week, even if I had to stay up past my bedtime! Thank you Mom and thank you Mrs. Pettry.
everyone please take care of him. go by & look out for something he's not paying attention tion to for himself. I pray he gets health and strength to continue. if you're nearby reach out to him and fulfill one of his need please.
I don’t have room for books in my 20’ travel trailer so I resort to my phone. Currently I have almost 2100 books in my library! Thank you sir for your generosity. While it was wonderful to hear the teacher say he stocks his classrooms with the books it’s sad that he has to. But what a caring teacher to do this for the students! Thank you Steve!
Technology is a wonderful thing but people forget the importance of a good book as a result. This story really touches my heart because there is still someone that wants to spread out the beauty of knowledge and fantasy that exits within a hardbound book.
Wish they had someone like him here.....I have always loved reading....books can be your friend when you have none....you can learn anything from the right books. Nowdays so many cannot afford to buy books and something like this is a godsend to some. We had a 2nd hand bookstore that the books they could not take in for for trade because too many, other reasons, etc. They had a couple of big bins in front of the store that the people could drop off those books in for people to come look through and take for free. I have been able to get many wonderful books there for free. Sadly they took away the free bins. It is a good thing when someone can offer this type service to the community. Books feed the soul and mind....I would not want to live in a world without books, music or art.....
Good people, please note the comment that Russell had been doing his work of love before he was recognized! PLEASE do not give up hope when you are loving others! For some it may take a week, for others 17 years, but for most your treasure is in Heaven. Hold on to your hope, it is real!
And here I can’t own any single books because it os very expensive to buy. Old or new, there is no way is free even if its books. I wish to read,to widen my vocabulary. To widen my knowledge because I am not very good in english and I don’t have enough money to travel the world. The books always help you to travel through your imagination and its a very good thing. GodBless to you sir! 💗
UA-cam, thank you for putting this in my recommended. Now if you could kindly keep putting this stuff in my recommended instead of lil waterpump smokedick and kodak camera i would be very pleased.😂

Steve Hartman is one awesome human being! I love his series "On the Road"!
Agree! He finds awesome human beings and shares them with us.
I do, too. Steve Hartman is doing a great job with the late Charles Kuralt's legacy.

That place is a paradise for any book lover. I wish there was a place like that in my community. :)
You should start one. Do a GFM to get the initial capital for a location.
IN MY VIEW
The teacher has the same look I have when I get around books. Sheer Happiness! ❤❤❤❤❤

I could have a field day in a place like that as I still read books over online print on the screen.
My first thought when I first seen this is he was giving out food
Mfs be using the books as logs 😂
The more we read, the less stupid we are, the less wars we engage in, the less alone we feel, as we connect with others in creation.
Love it!!!!
