  • The Great Divide: How the Rich Got Richer (Wealth Inequality Documentary) | Real Stories
    The Divide tells the story of seven individuals striving for a better life in the modern-day US and UK - where the top 0.1% owns as much wealth as the bottom 90%. By plotting these tales together, we uncover how virtually every aspect of our lives is controlled by one factor: the size of the gap between rich and poor.
    Among the people we meet are high-flying New York psychologist Alden; Leah, who works six days a week in a fast-food joint in Virginia; Jen, navigating life in a picture-perfect gated community in California; and Rochelle in Tyneside UK, whose long hours working as a carer mean she barely sees her children and husband.

    "The public always forgets!" - that's the most powerful quote from the entire documentary...

    • @davielgaming1200
      @davielgaming1200 2 роки тому +12

      That’s the key. Businesses go on, life goes on, and the public forgets. We should never forget that we consumers are the products of our society. We are constantly encouraged to consume thru various marketing pathways and fed the belief in doing so, we are contributing to the economy. A partial truth because our consumerism is contributing to the masterminds of the economic system governed by banking institutions and their collaboration with federal reserve and government corporate policy makers. It’s abominable that homeowners in the 2008 market crash were blamed for being sold predatory mortgage loans while banks were accepting bail out money to continue their operations. Banks should have been fined instead. But as it was said “the public forgets.”

      Public forgets because they get distracted 24/7 with mindless tv shows, endless facebook and tik tok reels, and other "entertainment" that does nothing to educate. People need to unplug from mindless bs and start thinking critically for themselves on how to better themselves, how to prevent themselves from being fked over with lousy jobs, lousy lifestyles, and by companies that take advantage of them and get away with it.

      That is very true I live in a poor household and can see big differences from the mindset off how people think and are when they are middle class with house paid off both parents educated workers so on they say things like mu parents are buying me a car I don’t pay rent my dad will buy me a house when I want to move out I’m eating breakfast I’m eating lunch and dinner all made couresty of mom my parents are paying for my university my parents are paying for my marriage . The upper middle class don’t really need to work for anything from my experience there parents don’t charge them rent and from my experience they get time to be kids for longer and I feel it makes them grow more efficient and have the ability to grow fast and start at a higher level because all those things have to be paid for where someone’s parents who are poor don’t have anything to offer for there kids and expect them to pay for living expenses once they turn 18 or kick them out where as my friends are 25 and haven’t paid a single insurance rent or phone bill where I have already put hundreds of thousands on bills etc where my friend just saves his money and now he’s working on buying real estate so you can’t say anything about upper and lower class having same opportunities

      Politicians are rich because they have a hand in the process of creating the rules. Check out what Nancy Pelosi has amassed, and she denies any culpability. She even said there is nothing wrong or illegal with it a few years ago. today she has changed her tune and now market trading by congress should be controlled. They want rules to tie other people down, but they refuse to live by those rules themselves. That is not capitalism. It is crony capitalism and they have created it and live by it. Of course, when I say they, I don't mean that ALL of them are corrupt and immoral.

      @Adolf Hitler Televisions were definitely a luxury item in the 30's. It was only invented in 1927. And let us not forget, there was this thing called "The Depression". Televisions were in over half of American homes by 1955. The post-war era was definitely a glorious time for the middle and lower class. But the fact remains, the ceo's and the rest of upper management, DO NOT deserve these kinds of salaries. It is asking for this "Reboot/Reset" we are experiencing right now. The working class is over working all they can, just to get by, while not getting any of the reward. All of the reward goes to upper management, who work short days, don't produce anything but profits, higher dividends for stock holders and big salaries and bonuses. All the while, the ones who keep the company going, and producing the product that makes the profits, get no or minimal raises, pay higher insurance premiums for worse coverage, get less days off, less vacation, and less respect. But, unions are coming back strong. That will be good for the American working class. We had strong unions until Reagan's administration and that is when we saw the income gap begin to grow, exponentially.

And I hate to say it but lack of empathy for the poor from the rich is not a crime. It may be in bad taste but you can’t force people to empathize. And even if you could (which it already is in some ways like the amount of taxes they’re forced to pay) you won’t change their hearts. Why not the middle class? Why shouldn’t they be forced to be more empathetic. Why is it just the rich? And who is considered rich? Everyone has their own idea about wealth. What good is having 100 million dollars in the bank if you’re ten times that amount in debt. What I’m getting at is there’s no straight across the board answers for any major problem. And just doing something to do something is not an answer either.

Those closest to the money aka good quality credit risk for debt issuance usually strong cash flowing companies and the wealthy who have a lot of asset equity get the money first throw it mostly into assets and then borrow more and get more free money. Some of this also trickles down then into the real economy of investment in workers, plants, equipment and consumption but most of it feeds on itself in the virtual paper value of assets economy.
