The UA-cam series you described of the guy trying to live alone in the Yukon makes sense. If the power goes out in your home you can still hop in your car and visit friends or family but out in the Yukon wilderness you are nearly completely isolated from all human contact and despite what the introverts may tell you, humans are social creatures and even the most reclusive of us need to talk to someone once in a while
there is a show on binge, i think it was called "alone" and this is basically what they do, they isolate themselfs for as long as they can (with cameras+equipment for it, medial supplies, an emergency radio and 10 Items of there choosing)
@channel what do you mean fake deep? I guess it just depends how deep you think. I think it's borderline deep. It's deep enough to be mildly stimulating but shallow enough to be light hearted and fun. If I want deep ill go watch pursuit of wonder or Einzelgänger
@channel So you're saying people aren't allowed to feel emotions? I'd say this guy is actually very in touch with the reality of how we ought to step back and see the bigger picture. How it's totally okay to live all of life at the computer playing a block game, and also to recognize the serenity of the world around you while the good moments exist.
8:24 "Could you live a life completely detached from the outside world?" "I definitely could" But I don't know if I'd be fulfilled in life if i knew you would never work on the forever world, with the massive ikea base and 100 million obsidian.
as someone who lives on the main island of the archipelago that this island belongs to it makes me happy to see this house getting the fame it deserves
There's this island in the Atlantic Ocean called Tristan Da Cunha, that's far away from any mainland or other islands too and there's a small population of people living there. I think it's larger, but if you wanted another challenge, that island could be a cool project too.
Solar panels or a windmill would be enough for the energy needs of lets say a family living on the island, especially since there is a lot of wind in this environment. For internet there’s Star-link and getting water from rain tanks isn’t even that hard, so it would actually be quite easy to make this island comparable to a average city live.
The information on the 5 Families seems very similar to the Families that were on St Kilda who lived off of birds, had a full village, inbred to oblivion and were removed from the Island in the early 1900s so maybe the reports just mistook this island for St Kilda.
Before you say that you think it would be nice, and that you don't understand how someone could get lonely. Go out and survive in that house, on that island, for a month or so, and then let's see how you feel.........
As an icelander, I am very glad to see how authentic you made the island and the house. Takk kærlega fyrir að gera þetta svona vel! Btw I'll do my best to verify if there were actual families that lived and resided on the island. I am doubtful since puffins migration birds and raising cattle for winter would be impossible in such a small island. Along with building material being scarce. There are ofc cases of ppl living on islands like Grettir living in Drangey. A island in Skagafjörður as he survived off sheep farmers had put on the island. (Ya'll should definitely look into the story of Grettir btw, he was a gigachad if I've ever heard of one)
Sometimes you get really invested into what your doing when the power goes out, and then all the lights randomly come back on and it like “oh, cool, the power is back on, time to go back to the internet as if this never happened 😁”
You say you're at peace when the electricity is gone and you can relax without the technology, but... what about the fridge? It's not working when there's no power. So... a couple hours without power would have you waste if not hundreds of dollars worth of food. I wouldn't say that exactly makes me be calm in a power outage.
Why am I not surprised anymore that you were able to make a 11 min video out of this one single island i nyour massive project? Along with backstory of the island, how the builder used the power of math to build the island, and philosophical talk. Also I consider living on the island in like 20 years if I have no projects to work on... and also only if I have someone with me. I can't be lonely.
Isolation is only good in moderation. Humans are by nature, social creatures. If that guy had a buddy with him, i think he would have been fine in the end.
I am an introvert. And I cannot survive a month without other people around me... And I believe no one can. Even you said you'd only want to do it for a bit. There's a reason why isolation is one of the worst tortures there are. Even introverts will be messed up by it.
Have you considered releasing the eventual finished map to the Internet Archive? It would be an utter shame if this project was locked behind some discord server or Patreon tier.
Hi Pippen! I just wanted to comment on the part at roughly 8:00 where you talk about internet connectivity on Elliðaey. The island is actually quite close to Vestmannaeyjar's main island, Heimaey, which is inhabited by over 4,000 people. Due to this proximity you can expect average to high quality 4G (LTE) coverage from the major phone carriers in Iceland from the towers in Heimaey.
Since it's near Iceland, there's a possibility of geothermal power/heating and air conditioning from the ocean water. As for internet, if you have 8 figures to spend, an undersea cable isn't out of the question.
I would've loved to compare him to exurb1a, but after what he did I just can't be comfortable with it. Not after he successfully avoided facing punishment for rape despite his case being highly publicized in his country. UA-cam doesn't like to show videos about this to his fans but exurb1a is a vile human being.
6:20 It’s literally 9 out of 10 Russians response. I live outside of Russia almost for 10 years now and I still have problems with some people expecting me to to have emotions towards things that I and other Russians I spoke to feel nothing about.
I too would love to live on that island for few days, no power, just all calm, no people talking, can relax your mind, do physical hobbies, nothing to worry about, read books by just a candle, no cat sounds, no people shouting, just the sound of the ocean and birds chirping.
What I feel when the electricity goes off is mainly hunger because all the food in my freezer has melted and expired. I also feel disappointment when I learn its not just my house, but the whole area, meaning all the takeaway places are closed too. I'm left eating beans cooked on my gas cooker because it's the only still functioning appliance. And at night, I need to dig the torches out of wherever the hell I left them, only to realise they ran out of battery years ago. I navigate the pitch black rooms by touch and memory, accidentally stepping on my cat because she always walks in front of me like an asshole. I go to sleep that night, relearning the importance of electricity and sincerely hoping it will be fixed when I wake up. Only adding to my distress when it isn't. I miss meat. I can't buy it because the shop refrigerators don't work either. It's winter too, so it's cold without heating. My feet feel numb and my joints become stiff. Blankets aren't enough to keep me warm, and the low temperature causes the blankets to steam up underneath, making me uncomfortably sweaty despite freezing. Happiness is a thing of the past, now I just need to survive. And then it comes back on so I watch some anime, play some games, then go to sleep.

What we as a species revere as the greatest accomplishment in life, happiness, is most often accompanied with companionship. We crave to have someone to love, to care for, to be with. To go live entirely alone in remote place will get lonely for anyone, even the worst of introverts. The only thing that alters the amount of time you can spend alone is how okay you are with being alone. If you generally love being alone, you may never go properly insane, but it will at least most certainly send you into a deep depression until it’s remedied by human interaction. This unquenchable human desire, this need we have for human companionship, it’s why even the most stable of introverts might lie awake at night, wishing (s)he had someone to hold while falling asleep. It’s why there are countless films with loneliness as the main battle for the character. Loneliness, I submit, is perhaps the scariest concept of all. To be truly lonely is to be unloved. To be unloved is to not have anyone. To me, at least, this is far more terrifying than any other fate; to live out your days lonely until you die lonely. Not having anyone to love you, care about you, mourn you, or remember you. A meaningless existence.
Bro, do you know how cool it would be if when this is finished someone turns it into a zombie apocalypse and also adds interiors
I think building interiors would be pretty hard as it would make the inside feel pretty cramped due to the lack of space
