      People don’t realize how much of a con it is if the future is all digital because you’re giving up your autonomy as a consumer in exchange for convenience and it really won’t be worth it once it ends up backfiring on the people who genuinely believed they owned there digital product when in reality they only payed for a liscense and not the game itself.

    I always prefer physical media and I’m glad Nintendo is still supporting it going forward. I hate digital media. The only time I get something digital is if I can’t get a game physical because it’s digital only and I really want the game.
    A digital only future still scares me because I feel digital doesn’t last forever and eventually everything digital just won’t exist anymore. If my console for whatever reason explodes or my account gets hacked, banned or lost. I wouldn’t want to lose my games that I bought. Besides I just really like physically owning something that I can have for as long as I want.

      The only time I ever bought things digitally is when it gets too expensive to keep buying physical when the console heats up the disc/cartridge and causes it to wear down after 1 years that I bought it (That's how I ended up buying Call of Duty Black Ops 1 nearly 5 times in a row because the disks would get worn down by the heat, thus the cracks starts to form 1/2 years later after you bought the copy. And even then the digital copy is just as slow as the physical discs are...On the XBox 360 that is, for the later consoles not so much, but it's still the same thing I would say).

      @@Yan23459 Weeeellll unfortunately the only way to keep it digitally forever is to pirate or dump the copy into your separate hard disk drive. If the internal drive that holds the company's video game operating system doesn't allow you to back up the game onto your personal offline hard disk or solid state drives, then you've basically bought a license, aka buying digital games is basically renting the game until it gets delisted/removed from their store, and also removed from your account as well as the console holding the game.

    People are going to find out the hard way that supporting digital has some very serious consequences as they won’t truly own anything that can be taken away at any moment. If you seriously don’t believe companies won’t be anti consumer and take advantage of its digital userbase then you would be dead wrong. Digital only future is more of a con for gaming then a pro. Is the convenience truly worth it if you any of your digital games can be removed at any moment? You’re giving up control and autonomy in exchange for convenience and it won’t end well because we are talking about a anti consumer company that could careless about its consumers

    Something I’ve heard few mention is that digital games have ZERO resale value. You buy a digital game, you’re stuck with it (even if you uninstall it). As a result I only buy digital if (1) it’s a game I know I’ll play, (2) if digital is the only option, and/or (3) if the digital copy is significantly cheaper than physical (and I’m talking at least $30 difference). But even if all the criteria are met I still prefer physical. Even if it costs more (ie Limited Run), resale value is vital, at least from a small-time collector’s perspective

    One other thing to mention is that the PS/Xbox Collector's Editions of games usually come with digital downloads of the actual game. I've found this preposterous and thankfully Nintendo doesn't do that.

  • @thenotoneman2812
    @thenotoneman2812 20 днів тому

    @BoTalksGames I prefer buying them physically, but unfortunately there's not a big variety of physical media where I live(Brazil). So, it really depends on pricing I guess. If a game is 10$ digitally and 60$ physically, the first option is more affordable. But there's also the other way around, some games are cheaper physically than digitally, especially a couple of months after their release.
    Politicians are also trying to kill importation here by over charging people with importation taxes. I fear for our physical games.

    I have to imagine some of these AAA games going digital-only isn’t because “physical buyers are non-existent”, but that people aren’t very interested in _their_ games. So they switch to digital, hoping most of the audience will carry over and increase profit. Because their physical sales are too low to be worth the cost. Also, it seems mostly an Xbox problem, which makes sense since they’re usually 1st party games, and those are day 1 on GamePass. Little incentive to pay $60 when you could pay $10 for that month (if you weren’t subscribed already).
    But I’m glad Nintendo reiterated they’re sticking with physical. Would be weird if they didn’t given they sell 10’s of millions of copies for a lot of games.

  • @mrshmuga9
    @mrshmuga9 20 днів тому

    I think Nintendo might also release some of these smaller games as physical copies so they can claim a much higher price as justified. I know Nintendo will upcharge, but I think if Pikmin 1+2 was digital only, it would be cheaper. People are so used to physical/digital price parity that they can probably excuse it (even if it shouldn’t). Digital-only for a few remasters? Probably not.
