Dennis, It's great that I have this video as a reference. The line counter on one of my reels went out earlier in the season. With you video I can quickly take it apart to diagnose the problem.
These little reels are popular for Northwest salmon fishing. They seem to hold up pretty well and are popular with several guides. Load the reel with 50 or 65 pound test braid and you're good to go. I have two on downrigger rods for salmon and also use them when trolling with weights up to a pound. They're pretty well sealed for salt water use. Those big drag washers work to provide smooth drag resistance with little of the jerky drag performance that loses fish - especially when we're fishing with barbless hooks. Thanks for this video. I'll watch it a couple times before servicing my reels this winter..
I can see how they would be popular. They are nice and strong and this one showed little wear even with all of the fishing it has done. Best wishes - Dennis
Perfect Video. Just what I needed. I have 2 of these I use for catching 50# amber-jacks and one of them the drag got smoked to where it wont hold more than 2#.
Hi Dennis, Nice job getting thru the twists and turns of this reel ! As usual your intuition was correct. Worked on a small Daiwa 700 and a Shimano TX 2500 Quickfire ll today. Both fun. Was amazed at that the smoothness of the quickfire bail trip !!!
I like those quick fire reel set ups and the case format, but I don't use the feature. I just don't seem to get the release point right. Love those reels in freshwater. Best wishes - Dennis
Hi have you had a Second chance to Open the Daiwa Low profile line counter Reel, 300 size, You have the Best info going when a Guy needs help with his fishing Reels, I Opened My Okuma Convector 354 Low profile line counter & it is the same as this Cold water you are doing here. Thank again Dennis From the Great Lakes area in Canada
It could be named with dirt or old grease or there could be a broken par. IT is hard to say without seeing the reel. I would remove the case and check the internals - Dennis
Cold water applies to all fish that thrive in cold water (non-tropical) and can mean both freshwater and saltwater, but the term is more associated with freshwater - Thanks
i guess you gotta expect serious complexity when you jamb that much tech into a tiny little design like that. cool reel, would love to get one, but i'm a bit afraid after watching this!
You should be able to find your schematic here www.reelschematic.com/reel-schematics/okuma-reel-schematics/okuma-cold-water-schematics/#gsc.tab=0 - Dennis

i have the same reel. when i click the thumb bard, the reel did not release (free spin). what is wrong with it? thanks in advance

Does Okuma mean to indicate this is freshwater reel, by calling it "cold water".

Where do I GET NEW CARBON DRAG WASHERS FOR MY 354DLX?
try smoothdrag.com. You may need to order by size if you don't see it on their chart, ask. They are good folks and are responsive to requests - Dennis

Sometimes reels are totally over-engineered. This one has a good balance, but is pushing it - Dennis
can you send me the link of the pdf for this reel?

Reel oil, I didn’t know there was fake oil.
lol
That is one fussy reel.
It sure was. Like stepping up to 1000 piece jig saw puzzles after doing those with 500 pieces. Best wishes - Dennis
