The year I was 60 yo (21 years ago) I did Mt. Adams 3 times in 3 weeks. Campground to summit to campground in one day. Actually drive in from Kennewick WA, climb and drive back the same day. It was prep for a Rainier climb. I did Hood twice - a week apart - prepping for Adams. St. Helens twice, a month apart with South Sister twice in between. That year, and the year before, I did Paradise to Muir a total of 28 times. Being 'in shape' makes walking around on mountains MUCH more enjoyable than not.
That's incredible, Jim! For people who have not done hikes up to 10,000ft+ would you recommend any kind of altitude or low oxygen training prior to making a summit attempt?
Hello my friend! Thank you for showing us the wonderful snowy mountain trails! It's wonderful! It was a wonderful view! It's a very interesting video! Thank you for sharing! Have a nice Sunday! Full watch!
Thanks Karen! Seeing that shadow was pretty awesome. I was so happy we were able to glissade down a big portion of the mountain. I thought about that a lot while climbing up. It saved us a ton of time and it was really fun!
I hiked this route in the 80’s. So much more snow. Building at top completely buried in snow. Great memories and I appreciate watching you guys go the same route. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching! When I did route in the video (7/4/2021), we had just been through a heat wave in the PNW. I did the same route almost exactly a year later (end of June 2022) and there was much more snow. The building on top was completely buried. I was happy there was more snow in 2022, but I imagine there was still more snow when you climbed it in the 80s.
I first climbed there in 2007, beginning of August. At 1pm on the summit the temp was 28 degrees. Hiked back to the trailhead by 6pm and temp was still 85 degrees as we loaded into the truck. Been back a dozen times and it never gets old. One year made it to the lower lunch counter before I encountered any snow, another year the snow was still 15 feet deep below timberline, crampons for traction the whole way.
I’m from the Yakima Valley. I use to run from small town to small town. Just me and miles of road ahead of me. I’d get a runners high and look at Mt.Adams in the distance. I always felt like it was calling me. Challenging me. I gotta do this climb. Thanks for taking us along.
Great video! We summitted the weekend before y'all did, and I can't believe how much less snow there was on the summit!! Glad you had a great climb :).
Hiking and snow too...Otis would have a field day if he was able to make it there...he would be rolling to his hearts content! lol Fantastic view! I was living in the Lower Mainland of BC when Mount Helen's blew her top! An absolutely epic adventure indeed! Take good care now and hope you are having a wonderful week. Bruce and Otis
It must have been a unique experience to be in BC when Mount St Helens erupted. This was a great hike and we did see people with dogs ascending. Maybe Otis could do it someday. Thank you for stopping by, Bruce (and Otis)!
Amazingly filmed! Very informative and beautiful videos of the view . Loved the view of shadow of mountain across Landscape! Can't wait to peak this beautiful one. Thank you!
That was a big pack for a big climb and some great wildflowers along the trail you took. The higher you got the better the views became. I now see the need for the big packs, did not realise it was a 2 day hike and it looked real tough going in the snow and over the lava field. Mouth dropping views from the summit and what a brilliant way to get off the summit to the lava field lol, awesome fun! Cheers Alan
The lava field was difficult as every step sank in the gravel. The views were fantastic along the way and kept getting better. The overnight stay calls for a big pack and also having all the layers if the weather turned. It was a fun climb. Thank you, Alan!
Comigrates on another summit victory. Awesome views on the way up and at the top. The glissading down had to be really fun and and nice break for the legs before the hike back. Awesome video.
Fantastic trip! And, as always, great filming & editing. Great views from up there had to be a great reward. The glissading looked like a blast. Thanks for taking us along!
It was, Larry. The views just got better and better. Glissading is definitely one of my favorite things while climbing! Thank you for watching, much appreciated.
What a great adventure! It was amazing to see all those beautiful mountains surrounding you and the sunrise was just stunning with also the shadow of the mountain 🤩 Must be a great feeling climbing a big mountain like this ! Big like from us and congratulations Evan 👏👌👍 Thanks for bringing us up there 😉 Have a great weekend Alex Evan and little man 🥰🥰🥰 H&S 👩❤️👨🌈🇨🇦
Yes, it was definitely an epic ascent with views on the unique landscape around. It was a great experience and I look forward to my next climb! Thank you so much, Helene et Serge 😀😀😀
I just climbed Adams (September 30th) after the first major snow storm of the season. It was really nice to be able to be on the snow. I had done a mid-summer ascent back in 2009 and I definitely remember the scree and loose rocks. We followed a solo climber so the snow was almost completely untrammeled when we ascended.
Awesome video guys! Looks like a trip you really have to plan out and get in shape for! Glad the weather worked out great for you all and it looks like you had a blast. Great editing/filming as well!! Thanks for sharing - Shane
There is definitely some preparation before climbing. It was much warmer than we expected. It was a fun adventure. Thank you, Shane! We hope you, Deanna and Blaze are well.
That plant life through the burn was amazing! Something special about that blue grey tone of the cascades. That view of St. Helens was SWEET! Always fun ripping around scree! Man, the wind was intense, but sweet views. Looks like a great place to open up a lemonade stand (old building on the summit). Hope your summer is rocking, we've got a week off and then on a 7 day canoe trip through Killarney. Keep on given er!
The views were spectacular on this climb! I'd love to use that building to make a lemonade stand ah ah That's awesome you have more adventures coming up. A canoe trip sounds like the perfect way to end summer! Enjoy guys!
Evan really learned a lot from what I think was a mountaineering school he went to. Such an amazing climb. I really looked the most spectacular during the sunrise part! Glissading down the mountain looks so fun! It was really cool Evan doing the outro as he was sliding down the mountain. Very cool adventure to share with all of us! God I can only imagine what the other mountains that Evan is going to Summit in the future!
It was great for Evan to put to use what he has learned at the Mountaineering School. Glissading is one of his favorite parts of the climb :D The views were amazing and the sunrise was gorgeous. Evan climbed South Sister in Oregon last week. Not sure yet which summit will be next. Thanks so much, Eric!
A lot different in 1976 when I believe the summit elevation was 12,307 in midsummer. Snow all the way from Lunch counter and no sign of any structure on the summit. Still my absolute favorite Cascade volcano
It was very cold when we ascended September 30-Oct 1 of this year. It was about 6 degree F when we started and was about 20 degrees F by the time we reached the summit just before 1 pm. (We didn’t get as early if a start as your team).
This was a fun climb, I did it a bit later in August this summer though, so there was a lot less snow which made getting down Piker's Peak less than fun. Overall though, incredible trip!
Very informative video! Thank you! I have a few questions as my partner and I will be climbing Adams in July 2022. What tent did you use? Is there a visible trail from the trailhead to lunch counter and from lunch counter to piker’s peak or did you follow random footprints in the snow?
The tent I used was a Big Agnes Rattlesnake SL3 (about 5lbs). It'll be hot in July so a lightweight tent will be fine. The trail is visible from the trailhead to lunch counter. There isn't really a marked trail from the lunch counter to piker's peak, but you'll be following everyone else's footsteps. July is a busy month so you won't have any difficulties following the trail. Download a trail map on Gaia or CalTopo if you want double check your route as you go. Have fun!

Hell back in my day men were men we didn’t need all this pussy gear we summitted in our shorts and socks. What’s a rope and tampons?
Thanks for watching! When I did route in the video (7/4/2021), we had just been through a heat wave in the PNW. So much more fun going down! Good job getting up there. The shadow of Mount Adams at sunrise was amazing
Yes, it was! The shadow of Mount Adams was really cool to see. Glissading is fun and quick way to get back down. Thank you, Leon.
Congrats on your climb, going down looked funner.😀

Great hike guys, some view from way up there. 12000 odd feet!
Definitely amazing views in different directions. Thanks for watching!
Amazing and awesome views. Camped at the base of Mount Hood last month and drove past Mount Adams. Beautiful area. Thanks for sharing this with us. 🤠
That's so fun Steve! We now live in the Mount Hood area. Let us know next time you are visiting nearby 😀 Thanks so much for watching!
Ohhh I wish I had known. I did think about y’all when I was going thru Idaho. It was so smoky at the time I just drove straight thru to Montana. 🤠
@@OutdoorNomad - Maybe next time :) Northern Idaho is not having a good summer this year, between the smoke and the heat. We moved at the right time!
Great video! We summitted the weekend before y'all did, and I can't believe how much less snow there was on the summit!! Glad you had a great climb :).

Glad you enjoyed it! I hope to continue doing some of these bigger mountaineering trips.

What kind of jacket is that ? ( the yellow one )
North Face Summit Series Gore-Tex Softshell Jacket
If I were to drive to mt adams the night before and car camp to get an alpine start, where would that parking spot be? Is that cold springs?
Are Only micro spikes needed now, please ?
I also need this water pump, which one is it? at 5:00
