Lo que creo es que los que asisten a ese teatro y abuchean a un cantante porque no está en su mejor momento son unos cretinos que no saben de verdad lo que es pararse en un escenario porque nunca lo han hecho.
La Scala is harsh! Pavarotti himself was "booed" there more then once. Unless you are pefect, they boo. It's nothing personal they're just letting you know they don't enjoy the performance. It's not like here in America where you respect a performer no matter what. They look at it as more of a service combined with entertainment, then a privilaged art form.
I would not critic Alagna, or say nothing about his actitude...or say that he did not sang well...but will say that in my humble tenor career, will preffer better to die on stage that to leave like this!!!!!...Muerte antes que deshonor!!!!!!. But still admire very much Alagna...he is one of the best!!!!!!
@puppetoz I don't think it was a "typical rude Italian audience". Probably a typical rude Milano audience. From what I have heard over the years the inhabitants of the cheap seats have a very bad attitude.

I'm talking to you, Netrebko! Another beautiful voice ruined. Alagana's vibrato here sounds like an old fashioned car trying to start. We should boo performers when they suck. They'll never learn other wise and we pay a LOT to hear them.*
He got booed because he his voice is not suited for this role. He has an unpleasant blat to his voice that I find very annoying. I heard Corelli sing Radames in Rome in 1969 and believe me, Alagna is no Corelli. Not even close. I saw Alagna today in La Rondine at the MET and he was dreadful in that role as well. His only virtue is that he is married to one of the finest sopranos of our age. He pales in comparison.
He did absolutely the right thing. The peanut gallery was uncivilized and knows nothing about humanity or music.
