I listened this a lot sung by Pavarotti, but must admit , that this nice guy has incredible soundful voice. Respect, and I love the interpretation on the high C , he is so right to hold it, as he got it
@@IAMTHEIC3MAN Thank you for the suggestion. It is a really interesting experience to listen to various versions side by side. Pavarotti's style has just such incredible ease, Mario Lanza - well his version really pulls the heartstrings (even for a beer-bellied balding bloke the other side of 50). However the more I listen to Roberto Alagna- the more the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. Probably also due to the incredible quality of this recording, compared to the technology available around 5th May 1949 when Mario started making his RCA recordings. For me there are a number of things that stand out in this recording; Roberto is able to sing well across a wide dynamic range including pianissimo and sotto voce- which is not easy to do and really marks out a great singer. This means that the emotion of music is carried in the crescendo for longer, you have this greater length of build up even though its within the same time period- the ear hears more dynamic change within for the same beats. I would suggest also that this recording reveals a good degree of Coloratura, I must admit an obscure term which I hadn't fully understood before, and not sure I fully understand yet, there is more subtle variation in the way he sings, a subtlety that perhaps earlier recording equipment is unable to convey. For me Roberto Alagna has tried to delve into the aria and reveal more of its subtle complexity, the different layers and nuances, the lights and shadows of the piece. For me this recording is more nuanced, there is more to discover. I admit there is much I have to learn from Mario Lanza, the way you are pulled into the aria, he creates an emotional tidal wave that inevitably, irresistibly draws you in like no other. Lanza's recording of 1958 by Blue Pie Publishing is already better than the RCA recordings of '49.
having a incredible voice color does not mean there will be good singing performance. As you have said you listened this a lot by Pavarotti. So If you are an opera listener, you should have understood the emphasis differences and why this performance is average performance comparing to Pavarotti versions. Due to not being an Italian, most of the opera singers don't know where to put correct emphasises on words. That's why there is a master classes. Yes he has an incredible voice but still an average performance.
Mi piacciono le voci dei tenori particolari come quella di Pavarotti e non per esempio di quelle di Domingo o carreras. La voce di Roberto è a dir poco per me spettacolare adoro il timbro. Stupenda interpretazione
