The mother from hell strikes again. She's a bigger threat to Niao Niao's future than the second aunt ever was...she's never once given Niao Niao a chance...because she blames her for adapting the characteristics of her second aunt..and grandmother...so she wants to punish her. She's conveniently forgotten that she's the one that left her daughter in the lion's den knowing that she was being mistreated because she wanted leverage so she could manage the household affairs. She chose to ignore her sufferings and now she's punishing her for surviving. I really hope that Niao Niao gets away from this abusive woman. I hated her mother in this scene. I understand that the mother thinks she’s doing this for the good of daughter and family etc. But she had the audacity to punish her daughter like a soldier, when she’s a 15 year old girl, and also- the fact that the mother, when her daughter being “punished” ( abused really, and after all the other abuse she’d already experienced) couldn’t even WATCH, showed cowardice and disrespect and should have made her realize that deep down she KNEW what she was doing to the FL was WRONG!
Why do some mothers hate their daughters? Life with a narcissist mother is hell. Whoever said "A girl's best friend is her mother" was a fool and a liar.
It turned out the whole family was in on this "punishment" causing the girl serious injury. The girl was lucky to have spent very little time with this kind of mother/family, and their educational logic.
she wasn't supposed to punish her yuanyi was supposed to signal and they would stop before it got as far as it did but her stubbornness took it too far
Naio Naio is stubborn but that’s what saved her all those years from the abuse of the evil aunt & gullible grandmother. The reason mother & daughter don’t get along is that Naio Naio dares to challenge her mom’s authority instead of being the acquiescent & obedient daughter. She is her own independent thinker and that enrages her mom. So when push comes to shove, her daughter never backs down and the mother feels she has to make an example out of her own daughter. Her mom is also defiantly stubborn so it’s more of who will break each other first. Naio Naio won’t back down so her mom has to go through with her threats to show she’s in control. They have such a toxic relationship. Naio Naio wants her mom to love her but her mom wants to show her she’s in control and instead of loving her daughter she stubbornly wants to break her spirit. Which proves what an awful mom she is. She may be good as a military leader but don’t know a thing about being a mother. Her 3rd aunt is more of a mom to her than her own mom. So sad……
@@johnnyebelindabewley4536 and yang yang, main thing is the mother doesn’t really truly know N2 and doesn’t even care to try and get to know her. Also Niao Niao didnt cause trouble. She left it so her hands and the other's hands were clean (by having the warning sign about the bridge put into place. The grandmother just sent word so that the parents would be aware of it and had commended Niao on her foresight. -- the mother decided that this was somehow unforgivable and didnt bother to factor in why Niao would feel the need to do this.
Everyone talking about the evil mother, but her father is totally useless too. If you have father and mother like these, it was better to be orphan for real.
YES, they had the whole arc of the mother. But father not only watched her abuse but I remember scenes appreciating her love for her daughter. He just pretended that his wife loves her daughter and just doesn't know how to show her. Which might be true but he could have steered her and make excuses for her behavior.
So what happened to the bad cop? Good cop routine that they were supposed to do. The scene just broke my heart. I was so glad when she went off with her aunt and uncle
I think that was originally the plan. Yuanyi would signal for when the father enters and saves shaoshang. But instead yuanyi decided to abuse her daughter instead.
I really do not like the mother. She never apologized for being worthless to her daughter. Naio naio was a good kid she wasn’t unfilial. The mother is the worst…..even at the end when they supposedly reconciled. I was angry because they all let her and the grandmother off the hook too easy..
There’s a lot going on in this mother-daughter relationship, but the mother doesn’t hate her daughter. They are both strong women. Mom is an accomplished warrior and the daughter is a survivor. They don’t know one another or how to communicate with one another. Their individual strengths and ways of navigating within the family and society are bound to cause some friction in the beginning. Loved the series.
She is so much like her mother. Both are very stubborn and are unwilling to yield to each other. Throughout the story the love between them was there, but their pride won't let them come out and express it.
The mother was dillusional. she built up n her mind how she expected Niao Niao to be even though she knew she was getting neglected. (she could have ppl find that out but not send back anyoneto even covertly help take Niao under their wing. Then comes back and expect Niao Niao to trust that the mother would be fair, handle things and have Niao Niao's best interests at heart. When that didnt happen (and why would it?) , instead of trying to see who her daughter was. she just both blamed her for not measuring up to the version she had in her head and decided 'immeadiate correction was needed and that the mother was the wronged party.
Personally, I feel like NN and her mother's personalities are similarly stubborn which is why there are so many clashes between them... and I don't agree that the mother is a completely terrible person, just strict and stubborn. Corporal punishment isn't that out of the ordinary for that time (or even now in asian families) and this woman has spent years on the battlefield and maybe still retains some of those habits. I think they would bond quite well if they had a common enemy.... (She was also likely frustrated by the fact that she was being made out to be the villain in her husband's script and reminded of her inability to bond with her own daughter.)
I can’t stop crying when I see this. This reminds me and my mom. We both argue very bad recently is all bc I’m married to a different race. Started judging him no reason. Even now I haven’t talked to my mom and I don’t know when if I can talk to her.

I have read a lot of comments berating the mother and not condoning her actions, asserting her will upon the daughter etc etc! There was a saying that was repeated more times than I can count by my Grandmother when talking of punishment. It was " Spare the rod and spoil the child!" It is this saying that most of the comments are relating to! Look at the children today when this applied, we have unruly children and adults! The premise of the saying is this " if children are not physically punished when they do wrong their personal development will suffer! For me the mother was correct! My parents were tough on me and I never despised them for it!
I really don't care for the mother. First she left the girl behind knowing she'd be treated badly, never showed up to protect her, came back when she's a teenager and used to fighting for herself, starts demanding that she follow rules that she never learned, is nice to her cousin but uses military rules on her, and still wants all the love and respect. Why should she surrender, she's spent her whole life in an enemy camp and her mom's the one who left her there. Also, what's it say that her people know that she's her daughter and they still keep hitting after she goes limp?
When did she ever cared about her daughter. When she left her behind and took SS twin brother with her. When she came back and thought of SS not worthy and would teach her how to be more like her cousin. Her daughter is a brave person who is hard to break. She should be proud instead she treats her like a unworthy person. If I were SS she should have told her that I won't aknowlegde her as her mom anymore. She still would have her father and her brothers and a home to return to. Also her mom loves her cousin more so she won't be alone.

This woman is evil she has no remorse for what she have been doing to her I am happy she have Ling in her life she deserves so much love and care instead of being hated on she needs to shut her mother out of her life tell Ling he make it happen
I think her husband set her up. He knew he was a marshmallow when it comes to his daughter. He wouldn't be able to do it. I counted the strikes.. they equaled 30. If they did it with full force, they would've killed her or badly injured her. I don't think they were hitting with full force. Also, I think the mother realized that her method of parenting wasn't working, which is why she handed her daughter off to the third uncle & aunt. She wanted her daughter to still have a chance to change & mature.
The change I'm talking about is more about just maturing,@@catherinejay5603. You have to admit that her approach to life up to her parents' return is strictly pulling pranks & trying to get back @ her 2nd aunt & grandmother. Although the grandmother really isn't a good example of maturity AT ALL. And I totally get why she's doing it.. for survival. I like her quote about if I wasn't a strong & independent person & didn't stand up for myself, I'd be dead already.. something to that effect. She said similar quotes several times in different episodes. Boy, is she right! Her upbringing made her a strong person. I guess I don't exactly mean "change," but just mature & become more polished. She really blossomed under her 3rd aunt & uncle's care. I'm so glad she had that experience.
she's 15, so not surprising she's not entirely "mature" in how she handles neglect and abuse. The mother thinks she can beat her daughter into submission the way she does her soldiers. I think it's very telling that Shaosheng does better with everyone else's care than hers. Only under her mother's "care" was she beaten so severely the doctor had to come heal her wounds while she "trembled in pain". Only her mother and some rival teenage girls ignored her good points. I loved the scene where Shaosheng chose loyalty to the queen, not because she was getting petty revenge at her mother but because she did not value her mother, and that lack of care was so much more savage than any direct revenge.
Cette mère est sans cœur je pense comme elle ne l a pas élevé elle ne l aime pas. Battre une enfant comme à l armée c est impensable. On dirait sa belle mère non sa mère. Elle est très cruelle.
2nd son’s wife gave birth to a girl the year before. Her mother was giving birth to her third child. Already having 2 sons she came up with a scheme to get the baby who could be a son by saying a fortune teller told her that MIL would die if the baby left the MIL house. Only surprise it was not just a baby boy but twins a boy and a girl. Devious aunt wasn’t specific enough so basically on the labor bed the parents were told by MIL the baby would have to stay or she would die and they would be criminal to go against her. So the mom said okay let’s leave the daughter so MIL doesn’t die. If she left the son the sister in law would have laid claim to him. The parents did leave for war but the now three boys left with them and stayed out of that house. They sent gifts and money for her care and happiness but it was spent by MIL and aunt on themselves. The parents often left the other child while fighting for various campaigns. But they were left in a different place than MIL.
Even the Ten Commandments have honor father and mother listed before not cheating on a spouse. Children don’t make the list. I do not think you understand China. After treason (which could result in death of 9 generations) the worse thing you can do is not take care of your parents properly. For a married woman it’s your IL’s. You leave your family and become their family. The Emperors aunt was about to take her off to prison, have her slapped in public, having her shamed in public, over a perceived slight to her future MIL. Fortunately the awesome threesome of emperor, empress and concubine stepped in. Can best couple award go to three people? If you go back centuries to Western Europe it was not much different. A certain level of blind devotion was expected towards leader, then parents. If you were a certain class in England long ago your child would be sent to another’s home for years and you would be sent children as well to raise cause it was thought parents spoil and later the child would be returned to you. We are looking at this through a western and modern lens. @@vogonpoet42

The so-called mother only sees Niao Niao as a soldier...actually, not even that. A soldier at least would be shown a little bit of care. She doesnt consider Niao Niao her daughter, otherwise she should've abused her niece as she did her daughter. After all werent her words: "I'll treat her as my own daughter"? And she even has the guts to say "i will never care for this child again". When did she ever care for her 'daughter'. She didnt even bother to teach her when she knew how her MIL and SIL would treat her. I really hate her character, and Niao Niao 's father is the next one. He is a general, and her husband, but he is 2 much of a coward to face her when it comes to his ONLY daughter's education?!!!! Is he even a man?!!!! The only ones who truly cared for Niao Niao were her brothers, her aunt/uncle and her attendants.
Yes, he does. He even sent her ointment to help with the healing process sooner, but she rejected it and sent it back because she thinks Ling Buyi was the one who somehow sold her out to the parents. She even calls him a demon because of this misunderstanding. When in reality it was the Grandma Wan that wrote the letter and informed the parents.
Well, I’m going to swim upstream here. Niao Niao was always quick to cast herself as the victim and just as quick to seek vengeance for perceived slights. She was manipulative, dishonest and self centred. Yes, there were many reasons for that attitude. She lacked love and the security of caring boundaries as she grew up. As Uncle Dong said, she was brought up deliberately to be useless. It was neither right, nor fair. But I have some sympathy for her mother, who feels both guilt at what happened to Niao Niao and a responsibility to undo the damage that had been done to her. She was certainly wrong in how she went about that. She could, for example, have harnessed Niao Niao’s love of engineering and construction to help her with her literacy. She could have set boundaries with care and patience instead of harshness. She could have recognised her very real strengths and fostered them. So, yes, she made many serious mistakes. But there is no getting away from the fact that Niao Niao was wilful and self absorbed. It is not a black and white situation. There’s a lot of grey here. But in all this it is her father I feel has most responsibility. Although he clearly had doubts about his wife’s approach, he stood by and let it happen. He could and should have been a bridge between mother and daughter. He failed in that duty.
Did you miss the part where all those terrible character traits kept Naio Naio alive? That she was regularly beaten and starved by the aunt? That they dumped her in the village while she was seriously ill hoping she would die there? Doesn't she have a right to feel slighted when she finds out that her mother knew the entire time and did nothing to help her? Who wouldn't be self centered when they've only had themselves to rely on (plus was left completely alone so literally there was no one else there to care about)? Who wouldn't be manipulative/dishonest when fighting an enemy with more power, strength and/or resources? Who wouldn't be willful when the only thing getting you through the day is that will? When the choice is push through or lay down and die? She never played the victim. She just was honest about the privileges she lacked. In fact, she was always the first to acknowledge her shortcomings and deficiencies.
The Long Ballad Please Feel at Ease Mr Ling I Hear You The Romance of Tiger and Rose Oh My Emperor 1 and 2 Who Rules The World Think that should get you started on your way right ☺️
None of you understand Niao Niao's mother at all. She loved her daughter, she was used to raising three boys and the very strict military discipline. If this were real and not a drama, she would have been killed long ago. Her mother knew that her behavior would get her and her family killed. She was lucky that the man everyone was afraid of fell in love with her. Not that her mother handle things the right way, but she had valid reasons for some of her actions. Her heart was braking everytime she had to criticize her or punish her.
She literally treats Yang Yang like a treasure and Shaoshang like a bad soldier she needs to punish. She thinks she has to parent SS when that time has passed. What she should have been doing was teaching her like she did for YY. Instead she berated and ridiculed her own child every chance she got. It's one thing not to know how to parent but who in their right mind would think that was right? She wanted to control SS and SS wasn't having it. I'm glad SS showed her she had no need of her
@@Indigo565 I do not disagree with part of your point however, she did that to show Niao Niao how she should behave, she did it to make her jealous. In other words it was a trick. I am not saying the carrot and stick approach was the right way to do it, especially without the carrot. Who was right her side when first madam Lou disrespected her, who was there when Consort Ruyang and Madam Chunyan did the same? Her mother, who made the decision to go rescue Huo Wushang? her mother, who stood up to the third prince for her? Her mother.

It makes me cry and this scene defines how strong niao niao is😭
The mother from hell strikes again. She should never be forgiven for the way she's treating her daughter.
I couldn't agree more but unfortunately in Chinese culture especially in ancient times respect to your parents was above all. That's why even the emperor would have to bow to and listen to his mother.
I cried during this scene. Lusi was brilliant as NN. I LOVE THIS CHARACTER! LOVE LIKE THE GALAXY IS BRILLIANT
@@honeybunny1of23 I agree. She's brilliant....her acting was stellar...I couldn't stop myself from crying especially when she was talking to her father...after she agreed with her mother about keeping her word to not care about her. Niao Niao never felt like her mother cared about her anyway so it doesn't matter if her mother cares or not.... Madame Cheng lost this round.
@@ladysquirrel9277 yes, but she lost any respect that Niao Niao might've had for her the moment she confessed to knowing how much her daughter was suffering but refused to intervene because she wanted leverage. Niao Niao doesn't seem to care about filial piety when it comes to her.... and that's why she has a bee in her bonnet whenever she's dealing with her daughter's lack of interest in her words and instructions. Her actions towards Niao Niao are only pushing her further and further away....and with Niao Niao's personality it wouldn't surprise me if she never forgives her mother.
@@shontelagrone8713 love your words and it's so true. That part where she is alone and says to herself to love herself and not seek that love and approval from others!
So true, a cowardly General
Why do some mothers hate their daughters? Life with a narcissist mother is hell. Whoever said "A girl's best friend is her mother" was a fool and a liar.
It turned out the whole family was in on this "punishment" causing the girl serious injury. The girl was lucky to have spent very little time with this kind of mother/family, and their educational logic.
she wasn't supposed to punish her yuanyi was supposed to signal and they would stop before it got as far as it did but her stubbornness took it too far
When did you ever care for this child? Is my question...
Never except when to use her pitiful situation to guilt her husband and get rid of her 2nd sis-in-law
So sad……
Her mom is a user just like the second aunt only worse where she loved naionaio brother more
@@johnnyebelindabewley4536 and yang yang, main thing is the mother doesn’t really truly know N2 and doesn’t even care to try and get to know her. She already stamped N2 as being just like her ex aunt and grandmother that she refuses to see her good and best qualities, and unfortunately for her N2 will never forget how her mother treated her even when she actually does try to understand her mother but the mother won’t meet her half way.
The mother's gonna start feeling it when her daughter starts to transfer her motherly affection to the Empress and Consort Yue.
Thats what will save her in the Palace too she needs that backbone and her mother doesn't respect it. Shameful.
« In the end, I’m the only that’s unreasonable ! I’m the only villain! »
*OMG, yes ! Yes, you are being an unreasonable villain ! Don’t you dare use that classical trick of guilt tripping others by pretending they all gang against you and that you’re actually not a villain, that is disgusting !*
Let's just face the fact that she doesn't keep her promise and still has everything to do with Niao Niao 😟
@@OnikaTrishul Abuse she did 😟
She is your daughter not a soldier. Why blame her ,when u r the cause of her growing like that.
Because she would have to admit to being wrong. She left to be abused and wonders why her daughter doesn't respect her
It’s me. I’m the president of her moms hate club.
I really do not like the mother. She never apologized for being worthless to her daughter. Naio naio was a good kid she wasn’t unfilial. The mother is the worst…..even at the end when they supposedly reconciled. I was angry because they all let her and the grandmother off the hook too easy..
Although the ending stayed true to the book that part didn't. NN chose not to be close to her mother and grandmother.
I just realized that both mother and daughter are resolute
Every mother thinks whatever she’s doing is for her child’s good but what mothers don’t get is that the doing also should have a way
Niao thinks Ling Buyi told on her & never found out the truth 😢😢😢
Every child deserves a mother but not every woman deserves to be a mom
I cried so much😭😭😭
The mother was dillusional. she built up n her mind how she expected Niao Niao to be even though she knew she was getting neglected.
She has her daughter beaten and to that extent and didn't have the guts to watch as she was being beaten
The mother's feels the pain too 😞
She is the worst mother ever
I really cried by seeing this this😢😢
Personally, I feel like NN and her mother's personalities are similarly stubborn which is why there are so many clashes between them... and I don't agree that the mother is a completely terrible person, just strict and stubborn.
I think the lady in the pink dress is the one who acted as fairy peony from ashes of love
I can’t stop crying when I see this.
This reminds me and my mom. We both argue very bad recently is all bc I’m married to a different race. Started judging him no reason. Even now I haven’t talked to my mom and I don’t know when if I can talk to her.
I hope you can repair your relationship with your mother, @Mai Xiong Cardenas. Give your mom time to get used to the idea & get to know your husband.
My daughter married someone I didn't approve of because I thought he was being controlling. But I gave them room & a chance to develop their relationship. Also gave them room to grow as persons & as a couple. He has actually surprised me.. has matured, has found his niche & is doing really well. I support & encourage them as much as I can.
So hang in there. Just seek ways to bring your mother & husband together.
My friend had this same situation
So
He waited for a year and than his wife and him visited the parents unannounced and had a heart to heart talk with all cards on table
Somebody need to speak first to have a conversation
I hope I didn't offend you and this helps
Only time and patience might mellow a stubborn heart, but in the meantime live your lives the best way possible💛
Amo went to far in her anger and Naio Naio became rebellious
The Empress became her true mother...
Generals don’t like rebellion 🥹

When did she ever cared about her daughter. When she left her behind and took SS twin brother with her. When she came back and thought of SS not worthy and would teach her how to be more like her cousin. Her daughter is a brave person who is hard to break. She should be proud instead she treats her like a unworthy person. If I were SS she should have told her that I won't aknowlegde her as her mom anymore. She still would have her father and her brothers and a home to return to. Also her mom loves her cousin more so she won't be alone.
Niao Niao did tell her Mother that she left to go with Aunt and Uncle . Madam Cheng thought Niao Niao was gonna end up like Yang Yang's Mom. She was the daughter she really wanted not Niao Niao because she was too stubborn and set in her ways
@@twinflames8600 shows how she doesn't know her own daughter at all. Yang Yang's mom is totally diferent than NiaoNiao. Also YangYang isn't afraid of NN that alone could give it away. The mother is a seeing blind when her daughter is involved.

Let me tell you... from the time this mother hooked up with the SIL daughter & treated her with wine and roses & the crap she dished out toward her own daughter ... had me cursing her from then till the very end of the drama. She may have been forgiven... but it was not deserved ... Not One Bit!!! NOT.. ONE... BIT!!!!
I don't understand was this part of their plan or ...
Was the mother’s disdain simply because she was a girl twin? Being military, boys are preferred, but this is sad.
If that happen in the real world,I would really love to see what kind of punishment see would get, because if she made it to prison, she wouldn't last. Long there, because I am pretty sure, there are a lot of Mom's, that would probably do the same to her, I am there are a lot of bad Mom's out in the real world, I may hav not being the best Mom, but I have to that I never hurt my child that bad, there have been many people said that I should have Been tougher on my three, this shoow ,I know it's not real, but I have watched a lot of movies, this one still hurts me

What kind of changing and maturing are we talking about? The daughter character was just fine from the very beginning plus with a brilliant mind 🤔
@@catherinejay5603 same no changed is needed
And it made mom jealous of her daughter as she defies her mom every step of the way
The change I'm talking about is more about just maturing,@@catherinejay5603.
Well it's a acting but her only one mom it's that strict mine real life both parents are cruel

I'm starting to watch to this drama and I do not like the mother. Please tell me the mother gets what she deserves

Does Ling ever find out about this?
I don't recall him finding out about this
Yes, he does.
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Her mother.
