Zammurta Asheq (‘Love Song’) was sung by Nisan Aviv in Lishan Didan (Jewish Neo-Aramaic from Urmia, Iran). His prominence in Lishan Didan music is unparalleled, one of only a few people to ever publish music in the language. The song is sung from the perspective of a man who is speaking to a woman, hopelessly in love with her. It draws upon a common Middle Eastern story trope of a love-struck man chasing after a woman, which enjoys much popularity in part due to the ever-popular tale of ‘Layla and Majnun.’ The music reflects the diverse city where Nisan was born (Urmia), with influence from Persian, Kurdish, Assyrian, Azeri, Qarachi, and Armenian music. kefxun wuduna! - Enjoy!
