Matt has come a long way from being the Troy Baker replacement to landing big roles that he's proud of. The Ganon role especially was surprising, of all the actors they could have gotten, they got a voice actor who parodied Ganon in a Smash Bros youtube video.
In the Castilian Spanish dub, Alfonso Vallés voices Vector and Ganondorf. He also voiced Solid Snake and Wolf but not in Super Smash Bros just only the main games. 🇪🇸
Indeed. It is rather interesting that he started out parodying Brawl Ganondorf of all characters and then becoming Ganondorf in an actual Zelda game. That's very much a full-circle moment.

In the original game's Japanese voice over, Dr. Eggman's voice lines were recorded by the late Chikao Ōtsuka. By _Sonic X Shadow Generations,_ Dr. Eggman's voice lines were re-recorded by his current voice actor, Kotaro Nakamura. Yeah I know we didn’t get to hear his espio voice they shouldn’t have replaced him it sounded so deep mysterious wise but Matthew does an ok job but Troy does it better
Sega basically forced Ian Flynn to write new dialogue while reusing the old cutscenes that didn't match. Most dialogue in the Sonic portion of the game sound bad as a result due to pacing problems. This obviously wasn't a problem in Shadows half since they had animations that were Taylor made for the dialogue.
Or even Adrien / Cat Noir from Miraculous Ladybug which is funny because Keith Silverstein as English Vector actually voices Adrien’s father Gabriel better known as Hawkmoth. 😅
Yeah, they probably should have re-casted Charmy. Since Colleen has to make it different from both versions of Tails now it's really strained a bit too cutesy. My guess is they didn't bother since Charmy never appears in newer games anymore and Colleen was already on hand, but if the Chaotix ever have a large enough role again they should really get someone new.
This was a missed opportunity to get new actors for the other characters, like getting Charmy a new VA since Colleen’s done much better with Tails now. He sounds so weird in the remaster. Some of the other actors in the remaster still sound good, like Matthew Mercer as Espio and Erica Lindbeck as Blaze.
I think I can get used to Charmy’s new voice, of course I think Colleen can improve it if he’s in more games. Doing this also saves money for Sega, instead of having someone take up that role for a character that’s not gonna be in every game like Sonic, Tails, Eggman, Amy, Knuckles and Shadow.
I'm gonna be completely honest. I was expecting the original VA's from the original Sonic Generations to reprise their roles like how Kate Higgins voiced Tails again in Sonic Colors: Ultimate. I wasn't expecting the changes in the lines. I don't have a problem with the current voices of Knuckles, Silver, Blaze, & Espio.
I think her delivery in the remaster is a bit better since she put more emotional expression and reactivity into her voice here like she did in Forces. She wasn’t as bad in Generations as she was in TSR, but I thought she was trying to sound sultry instead of letting her sultry tone come off naturally like it did in Free Riders.
Had absolutely no memory that Laura Bailey used to voice Blaze, i love her voice so much ever since Lucina in Fire Emblem Awakening, I'm kinda sad that she doesnt seem to do as many roles anymore. Erica Lindbeck is also great as always, tho.
Yeah, Bailey did the same thing as Baker. Got swallowed whole by the wannabe Hollywood machine and left most of her "cheaper" roles behind. She also used to voice Chun, but haven't done so since SF5.
Dave honestly sounds like the middle point between the transition from Scott Dreier to Dan Green and Travis Willingham. Of the retained voice actors, Keith’s Vector sounds the least different between takes. And we all knew they weren’t gonna have Mike try to recreate that laugh, especially with how long it’s been. So wise move on just reusing it.

I feel as though she changed it because she wanted to differentiate it form Classic Tail's voice. I personally like the direction Charmy's voice went, but I feel as though Colleen's voice isn't naturally suited for that high of a pitch voice. Comes off as straining 😅
@@StarryPenguin In the French dub, Marie Giraudon which her original family name is Marie Millet voices both Cream & Charmy since Sonic X based on the Japanese version and in Sonic Generations she kept the same voice style for both Cream & Charmy without forcing her voice that would end a voice crack.
I never realized that Colleen voiced Charmy in the original Generations, but after rehearing the lines, i could absolutely hear hints of her current Tails voice in her old Charmy voice. And it makes sense then why she had to change her delivery for Charmy in the remake so he wouldnt just sound like Tails, but I'm honestly surprised that they didnt recast Charmy to avoid the issue altogether.
Here are the ones I prefer: Sonic - Roger Craig Smith Tails - Colleen O'Shaughnessey Knuckles - Travis Willingham Amy - Cindy Robinson Cream - Michelle Ruff Silver - Quinton Flynn Blaze - Laura Bailey Vector - Keith Silverstein Espio - Matthew Mercer Charmy - Colleen O'Shaughnessey Shadow - Kirk Thornton Rouge - Karen Strassman Eggman - Mike Pollock These are my absolute voices for these characters.
I’d like to apologize to Matt Merced for yet again being cast as Troy Baker’s replacement. You did a good job with Espio regardless, but you don’t deserve to go back to those times 😂
i'd say the only voice that's worse is Charmy and possibly Knuckles plus they should have kept Eggman's "i'm going to own the world when I'm finished with Sonic" it made the scene feel like Eggman's last stand like he really thought he'd win, the "i'm going to erase that line and reshape it as I see fit" feels a lot less climatic.
It's crazy how we changed half of the cast and the one that got changed were the most liked at the time. I do feel that while Roger may hold on to his work for maybe 5 more years, Kirk will be in 70s this decade and might retire soon. As time passes, I can't honestly he him still voicing Shadow in his 70-80s without sounding really old.
Since this is brought up again, Travis and Laura didn't part ways from SEGA because of Ronin, it's more in line with being invested with Critical Role along with other high budget productions. Troy Baker did the same move too without CR of course. My opinions on the redubbing for each character: Sonic - I still like it. Tails - he fine Amy - BETTER.. screw yall- Knuckles - between just alright and pretty good Cream - STILL BABY GIRL! But seems more squeaky. Rouge - she’s alright. Espio - … he sounds hot- Shadow - OH MY BOY ❤ Blaze - beautiful I love her omg Vector - I like. Charmy - oh my god poor Colleen- Silver - he’s eh. Eggman - older sounding but fine to me. Overall, I don’t hate the redubbing, or really see why all of a sudden people who called the voice actors back then horrible and cringe are now suddenly the best.. fandom I feel don’t know what the want. The old voice lines are alright to me, pretty good even. But the new lines (except the Knuckles “where is my island” to classic Sonic part) are all good to me. Like an 8/10.
I agree on all points. Except Silver, he’s good. He sounds a bit older compared to Silver from 06. And you’re goddamn right Amy sounds better in this remaster. I do hope they continue making her sound as she does in Frontiers tho.
@Charizardslash To me the line itself is fine, just the cut to classic sonic still patting the belly just confuse it a bit now. So just feels out of place. ... like- did he eat the island? XD
Man Mike is really showing his age. I think it’s about time SEGA start looking at new options. As much as I love his work, Idk how much longer he can keep this up. And not to mention everything else with Mike Pollock it seems like this would be the best time. Paperboxhouse would be a brilliant replacement but there’s no way that’d ever happen lmao.
Mike Pollock can't voice Eggman forever, though. Eventually he'll be replaced (hopefully through retirement since the poor guy needs a much needed break after a little over 20 years of acting, and not just Eggman) and Sega will have to start finding a new actor for him.
I knew Espio sounded different during my playthrough! Pretty awesome to see that Matt Mercer took over. I also didn't know that Colleen went from voicing Charmy to doing both him and Tails. I'm honestly really enjoying the updated voices and newer dialogue that was written for the remaster.
@@Cutie_Nepgear Agred. Bryce Papenbrook doesn’t fit to Silver at all and even if they couldn’t brought back the previous English voices, they were much more opportunities for having a better suitable voice for Silver.
I used to think that Bryce Papenbrook and Dave B. Mitchell were miscast as Silver and Knuckles respectively, but then I started to grow more accepting of their roles and realized that they are trying their best to fill the shoes of their predecessors. I even thought of what I thought would have better suited for the roles instead of Bryce and Dave, but then I also realized just how selfish it would be to think other VAs would have been better suited for Silver and Knuckles.
Finally, it’s nice to see someone who accepts the current actors and realizes that they’re doing their best to fill the shoes of their predecessors instead of giving them unnecessary cr4p. 95% of the people I see here are hating on Dave B. Mitchell as Knuckles and how he sounds here, completely disregarding his wonderful Frontiers performance. It’s perfectly fine for you or anyone else to prefer the original actors that came before them, like preferring Travis over Dave and Quinton over Bryce (I do prefer Quinton as Silver but prefer Dave over Travis as Knuckles, but can still see the appeal in Travis’s performance since Forces,) I’m not against that at all, but it’s unfair not to accept the current actors and refuse to see the positives about their performances (mostly for Dave) when they’re doing their best to be good successors, and even some managing to surpass their predecessors (since I personally believe that Dave has surpassed Travis by now.) It’s a genuine breath of fresh air to see users like you be fair towards the current actors and managing to accept them for what they’re trying to do, and I appreciate you for that.
Kirk definitely got the biggest glo-up between games, and even if I’ll miss some of the old VAS (especially Travis Willingham, Larua Bailey and Quinton Flynn), the new ones are at least solid enough replacements.

One thing I noticed about sonic in sonix x shadow compared to regular generations is sonic is more focused on friendship. Which makes sense, ever since the movies came out sonic has been less of his usuall "friendly asshole" self and more shonen friendship based. These voice line changes kinda prove it.
Because Colleen's old Charmy voice is basically how she plays Tails now, just with more energy, so they needed her to differentiate him more since she'd be also playing both Modern and Classic Tails in this game.
@@Hey-Its-Dingo I’m sorry but she should’ve kept the same voice as before just like how Marie Millet kept her voice as Cream & Charmy in the French dub. 🇫🇷
Fun fact, America's favorite dungeon master and current Ganondorf, Matt Mercer, replaced Troy Baker as the voice of Espio and the voice of Kanji in the Persona 4 anime and the post 2009 P4 games back in 2016 (starting with Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games). That being said, I prefer Troy Baker's Espio over Matt's. All I hear is Chrom from Fire Emblem Awakening, and I can't unhear it. I gotta say, I like the voice direction that was taken with Charmy this time compared to 2011 to have Colleen differentiate Charmy from Tails. Lastly, as a Blaze the Cat fan, I prefer Erica Lindbeck's Blaze, though Laura Bailey did do a good job. It reminds me of when Blaze was voiced by Bella Hudson (Sonic Rush - Sonic and the Black Knight) all those years ago.

I know people are probably having mixed reactions towards this as on one hand it’s neat they redid all the lines to accommodate the script changes so replaying gens actually has some more value to it but on the other hand some of the new lines or voices sound a bit weird-I don’t agree with the pin comment all of them are worst though, in terms of returning voices Kirk has 100% improved as shadow and I’m glad cause I’ve genuinely come to appreciate him as a va thanks to his other work, but also he did get his own entire section of the game-BUT as much as I’d breakdown every individual voice: can I just say I find it really fucking funny how when that one Apple arcade sonic game that had cream and rouge come back had people complaining their vas suck but then seeing this comparison we got full confirmation ITS THE SAME PEOPLE? People really were thinking “oh they casted someone else and they suck now” but no it’s literally JUST THEIR DIRECTION because these are the same vas. Not to mention these two are well known in the industry and I find it funnier how on how a different fandom people are clamoring for these two to come back. (Context: creams va is the original actor for Yukari and rouges va is the original actor for Aigis, both from Persona 3. People hate the dub for reload for recasting them even though some actors were gonna be replaced either way, but really fucking funny how Sonic fans think their terrible actors but no they just don’t know shit about how directing works!)
This is probably the first time that I've listened to Erica voice Blaze, and her take on Blaze is probably my favorite so far. It's exactly what I imagine her voice to sound like. I want Silver to have a new game sometime so that I can hear Bryce voice him more. There isn't a lot for me to go off of besides TSR, but I really like what I've heard so far.
I remember when Aaron Webber mentioned that if Classic Sonic were to have a voice, Jaleel White would be the perfect candidate for that role. Imagine how different Generations would have been if this happened
Why did they not change the "i dislike relying on others" line for blaze?? The whole point of her story arc in rush was to let herself be more open to making friends and relying on others??
I’m probably the only person who really likes all the current voices for these characters. They all sound really good in this game and the actors are doing a fantastic job!
Eh, outside of Forces, not really. He sounds too high-pitched. He sounded good in Forces though with the deeper tone and had potential to get better after that. Dave B. Mitchell imo has surpassed him after Frontiers since his voice sounded deeper than Travis’s which fits better considering Knuckles is a guardian and has depth, however the lines he’s given here aren’t great and sound off with the animations.
That's 2. Two times Troy Baker role replace by Matthew Mercer. First was Kanji Tatsumi from Persona 4 for the 3DS spinoff Persona Q. I think Matt make a great Replacement for Troy other roles. In fact he's a great VA.
Mercer has taken a large number of Troy Baker's roles. To the point Matt Mercer would not voice Yuri Lowell from Tales of Vesperia even though Namco didn't ask Troy Baker to return despite Baker saying he was willing to
Really? Cuz I don’t hear anything similar to Invader Zim’s voice when I hear his delivery. Is there a specific role of Richard’s that Bryce sounded close to that you’re referring to?
My take, I don't think the redubbed lines are bad by any means, I think we're just used to hearing the old lines. We all have our preferences tho, so I understand those who don't like the new voices or line changes. Personally, I don't like Silver's new voice, and the fact that they changed Knuckles' "did you gain weight?" Line is an absolute crime, but overall it's a pretty good redub.
Whether the voice actors are good or not to me isnt the issue, even if I just dont jive with the current cast, but moreso the direction of how they deliver stuff. New additions of Black Doom and Mephiles' and their VA'S just knock it out of the park for me, but I feel like they got way better direction for the line deliveries/tone of voice. To me a lot of Sonic Generations new cast comes off like this, to me at least, and this isn't me putting down if people prefer this. I'm just a schmuck who wanted to share their 2 cents.
Not usually a fan of voice changes but I’ll always welcome Matt Mercer. Roger added just a touch of nuance to his delivery. I think he’s gotten pretty good in the role. Will always appreciate Mike’s Eggman adding that consistency to the Sonic games. Others may come and go but Eggman will remain.

He’s still the Troy baker replacement tbh

Yeah, they probably should have re-casted Charmy. Since Colleen has to make it different from both versions of Tails now it's really strained a bit too cutesy. My guess is they didn't bother since Charmy never appears in newer games anymore and Colleen was already on hand, but if the Chaotix ever have a large enough role again they should really get someone new.
This was a missed opportunity to get new actors for the other characters, like getting Charmy a new VA since Colleen’s done much better with Tails now. He sounds so weird in the remaster.

I think her delivery in the remaster is a bit better since she put more emotional expression and reactivity into her voice here like she did in Forces. My take, I don't think the redubbed lines are bad by any means, I think we're just used to hearing the old lines. We all have our preferences tho, so I understand those who don't like the new voices or line changes.
